What's the current best practice for URL structure?

We’re really confused about the current best practice of URL structure. For example what would anyone advise to rank for luxury hotel rooms?
name.com/luxury-hotel-rooms/
name.com/hotel/luxury-hotel-rooms/
name.com/hotel/luxury-rooms/
name.com/hotel/luxury/
name.com/luxury-rooms/Or do we add location?
name.com/luxury-hotel-rooms-location/

For Hotels, I would recommend:
WRT to your enquiry about the location, for hotels, I would use :
If you have multiple locations, then use
or
For Cottages:
- name.com/cottage/cottage-name/country/city
or
- name.com/cottage/cottage-name/state/city
Create Google My Business profiles for each location.

I'd usually say go with "name.com/luxury-hotel-rooms/ " if you were just one single hotel, but you say they are a rooms supplier who do hotel rooms (from multiple hotels) and also cottages
So the thing that makes most sense for your client is: "name.com/hotel/luxury-rooms/"
You could also do stuff like:
"name.com/hotel-rooms/luxury-rooms/"
You can't do the top-line one ("name.com/luxury-hotel-rooms/") as it will mean that your structure deviates and becomes different for cottages and hotel rooms
If you were going to add location as well, I'd do that as faceted navigation (sidebar filters) and not as a main category type for the hotel rooms. You know, when you're on a site and you get those check-boxes in the side nav to filter the results down
You could make it so that when a user narrows down by location, they end up with a URL like:
"name.com/hotel-rooms/luxury-rooms/london/"
This site does URL architecture immaculately well: https://www.virginexperiencedays.co.uk/hotel-breaks
If you visit that page and click the faceted navigation tab "All Filters", and then click "London" in location, you end up at: "https://www.virginexperiencedays.co.uk/hotel-breaks/london". You can then click "anniversary gifts" and you end up at https://www.virginexperiencedays.co.uk/hotel-breaks/anniversary-gifts/london
Whatever order you apply the filters in, they stack in a pre-determined order so that URL duplication never, ever comes into play. No matter which order you click the filters in, you can't change them around (in terms of sequential order) in the URL which is really great
Do something like that

What's the best SEO solution for international targeting of different english speaking countries?
Hi guys, recently won a client who operates globally, their domain is .com and their head office is in the UK. They have built regional sub-directories and translated content and pages of their site for /ru, /fr etc. The issue comes with their /us and /ca pages. This content for the most part is identical to the main .com site. The content is still in English and can't in most situations be changed to be more localised, so there are duplicate content issues. Trying to think of options: Ensure hreflang is added properly, build regional links to regional pages, get local contact details / NAP on all regional pages, set up Google business listings for each regional office and link accordingly. Will Google be able to identify these regional pages as more suitable search results for US searches? Make the main .com version of the content the canonical, which takes away any ranking benefits of the regional pages altogether, but removes the duplicate content issues and means we can focus link building and content resources into making sure the .com version of the page ranks well. Thanks!

Current advice or best practice for personalization by geolocation?
What is the current advice for displaying content based on a user's geolocation? On the one hand, I know the rule of thumb is that you are not supposed to treat googlebot any different than any other user to your site and shouldn't show different content than what you would show a regular user, however on the other hand, if we personalize the content based on the geography, it means that the content that is indexed would be specific to Mt. View, CA in Google's index, correct? I know I heard years ago that the best practice was to use javascript to personalize the content client side, and block the js with robots.txt so that google indexes a default page and not a geo-specific page. Any insights or advice appreciated.

Best SEO Option for Multi-site Set-up
Hi Guys, We have a Business to Business Software Website. We are Global business but mainly operate in Ireland, UK and USA. I would like your input on best practice for domain set-up for best SEO results in local markets. Currently we have: example.com (no market specified) and now we are creating: example.com/ie (Ireland) example.com/uk (united kingdom) example.com/us (united states) My question is mainly based on the example.com/us website - should we create example.com/us for the US market OR just use example.com for the US the market? If the decision is example.com/us should we build links to the directory or the main .com website. To summarize there is two questions: 1. Advise on domain set-up 2. 301 or 302 Redirects with locale URLs?
Hi Mozers, I have a bit of a tricky question I need some help answering. My agency are building a brand new website for a client of ours which means changing the domain name (yay...). So! I have my 301's all ready to go for the UK locale, however, the issue I have is that the site will also eventually have French, German and Spanish locales - but these won't be ready to go until later this year. We will be launching in just English for September. The current site already has the French and German locales on it as well. Just to make sure I'm being clear, the site will be www.example.com for launch, but by lets say November, we will also have a www.example.com/fr/ and www.example.com/de/ site launched too. So what do I do with the locale URLs? As I said above, the exisitng site already has the French and German locales on it, so I don't particularly want to redirect the /fr/ and /de/ URLs to the English homepage, as I will want to redirect them to the new URLs in November, and redirecting more than once is bad for SEO right? Any ideas? Would 302s maybe be the best suggestion? Thanks! Virginia

What's your opinion on stores with multiple locations around the country that sell the same products?
Is there a way to capture local SEO traffic by only having one website/page for our product pages or do we have to have a website for each location even though the content is identical? We do have a location finder where we list each location. But we want to generate local traffic in the cities we are in to our product pages through SEO, but it's difficult because they all sell the exact same product. We know Google doesn't like duplicate content.

How Best to do implement a Branch Locator for a Website with invididual location category pages
Hi All, We have an ecommerce Website with multiple locations for our stores and we currently display separate location specific pages for the different categories and sub categories. This has helped us previously to rank well for local search in each of the areas we have a store but over the last few months since humingbird, our local rankings on some things have dip a little . We want to implement a branch locator of some description to improve the user experience. From looking at other websites with branch locators, they tend to a separate button/page with which you can search for a branch etc. However, they don't have location specific pages. My query is should I do it so if a user comes in on a specific category location page and follows it through to product page , then to have a tab on the product page displaying the local branch from which he can come in. My thinking here is that , is that it would help confirm my local citations and help improve local rankings. Or Should the local branch be displayed on the local category pages instead or as well ?. If a user comes in from the homepage or not on a specific location page, then the branch locator will allow them to search for a specific branch. Should I also put in a branch locator as a separate page or can It be in more places. I don't want to damage anything which may have an effect on rankings due to citations and NAP on the location specific pages. Any advice or good examples to look at would be greatly appreciated thanks Sarah.
