Google My Business right had side block disapeared for a brand search
-
Hi
Just redeveloped my site and went live end of April
Since then whenever i do a branded search the GMB 'pack' has always shown on the right hand side whenever i do a branded search but it has disapeared as of the last couple of days.
Any ideas why this can happen ? and is it anything to worry about or just a google 'glitch' that should right itself soon?
If not any ideas how to fix ? (accounts and website all properly linked) etc
When i go to GMB dashboard and click 'View on Search' it does show up as it should, but not when i go to do a google search for the brand name !?
All Best

Good news, it has returned without any further actions on my behalf. But I have started to receive some sales via branded search results, so I think we can all safely conclude that this is triggered by brand search CTR.
Thanks for your input folks

Hi Dan,
Okay, thank you for confirming the URL. I do think the near-match of your brand to the one at shop21live.com could possibly be confusing Google as to the intent of a user searching for "Shop21".
Whether or not this relates to your site re-do, I can't say, but basically, you'd be looking at needing to become the authoritative result for that brand. Right now, with you being outranked by that Facebook page and another business with near-identical branding, you're in a tough spot.
I would analyze shop21live.com and see what you can do to surpass their metrics with yours. An audit is definitely in order!

Yeah but i think your right and talking to a colleague also agrees with you its a CTR issue, and requires more brand searches and/or general activity
whilst the domain is ancient i had neglected it for a few years so lost the brands value over this time so now need to build it back up
have a great weekend !
all best

Tough one, this site ranks above etc. www.shop21live.com/, facebook etc so still believe it is a brand strength issue, it could almost be part of an address for a shop in any shopping center globally...
But you rely on inside knowledge - gut instinct.
All the best.

HI Don
Thanks that certainly makese some sense, although my SHOP21 was the first in existence (websites been live since 2002) and it has DA of 18
Thanks

Hi Dan
The words or makeup of your brand name are relatively ubiquitous. Google may have served up GMB for a little while - to check on CTR etc. as it considered a brand then "little action" or "authority" and you are no longer served up. It is relatively common for new websites or businesses. Sometimes get lucky and stick.
Would suggest built up some domain authority and see if that is enough to get you back..

its shop21.uk.com
i have been averaging no 1-3 for branded search since going live
the rank seems to have dropped slightly at the same time as the Google Business profile disapearing
-
Thank you, Dan!
I can confirm that you're not coming up with a Google Business Profile when I do your branded search. However, I do see a couple of things when I look at that link you provided:
-
A Facebook page is outranking any website for the business.
-
The next thing I see in the organic SERPs is this:
Shop21 Lou | Shop21 Lou
<cite class="iUh30">www.shop21live.com/</cite>Something New Is Coming! Our site is undergoing a transformation. Please be patient with us and pardon our dust as we make our changes. You won't be ..So, if that were your website, the language in the result is that the site is under construction. This does not create confidence. Then, further down, I see this SERP entry:
SHOP21: Colour Charts, Cards, Guides & Creative Supplies
<cite class="iUh30">https://shop21.uk.com/</cite>SHOP21 sells Pantone & RAL colour charts, guides & creative supplies to help colour professionals realise their creative vision & design objectives. Take a look! When I look back at the website link in the Google Business Profile in this result, it's linking to this latter URL (shop21.uk.com)So, my question is, which of these websites is yours: shop21live.com or shop21.uk.com? Do you own both of these sites? What is their relationship?

Hi Miriam
Yes its SHOP21
Has been showing the results fine since going live end of April, then suddenly disapeared over the last 48 hours
This is the link to the results showing correctly when i click on 'View in Search' from my GMB dashboard, but can no longer replicate that for a direct branded search for 'shop21'
Many Thanks
Dan

Hi Dan,
The object in question is called a "Google Business Profile" (formerly known as a Google Knowledge Panel). Are you able to share the name of your business so the community can take a look?
-
Hi Darin,
Thanks! Schema all supposed to be correct, which one do you mean specifically - organisation schema?
The weird thing is that it does all display correctly when I click 'View In Search' in my GMB a/c, only not when I check directly on search (weird because 'View In Search' within GMB looks like it links through directly to the same results just with the GMB pack).
Yes other things checked and not incognito & yes competitors all resolving ok
All Best

I just checked a few of mine and they are still there. There are some changes in the format but for the most part they are all there as before.
Have you checked your schema markup to make sure it's accurate and hasn't changed?
Did you check in an incognito browser?
Have you checked if other brands in your industry have/don't have a knowledge card?
Those are some things I would check.

Does anyone use an embeddable Google review widget?
Currently, I use an embeddable Yelp review widget on my site. The widget I use has been helpful, but is no longer actively maintained and I'd prefer to show Google reviews instead. Does anyone have a recommendation for a widget to embed Google reviews?

Schema markup for employees and local business on same page - Possible?
Hello, We have some local business sites where we have user submitted reviews. We then post those reviews on that business' page and use the schema aggregate markup. Works like a charm in getting stars in SERPs on branded searches for these location. We already have information about the persons who work at these locations and are about to work out a process where we can get even better data on these persons. Right now they are marked up as employees on the local business pages. Right now the ratings are for the business as a whole, but we are looking at expanding where you can not only submit a location review, but designate which employee you worked with. We work in the health care industry and so you can see why this would make sense. Right now we mark up a local clinic and employees in the following way Local Business > Employee > Person > Name of Person Person Bio > Person info etc We are going back and forth on if this would be worth marking up reviews at the employee level as well. So, on a page each employee would have an aggregate rating and then the location would have an aggregate rating that consists of all of the reviews for that location - a combination of all employees. As I looked through the schema standard for person https://schema.org/Person there is nothing there that shows a markup for the aggregate rating of a person. Also when I look at other more specific business types https://health-lifesci.schema.org/MedicalBusiness same thing. It looks like schema has rating tied to a business vs a person. Right now - the markup validates. It shows up in the SERPs. People are happy. So, I am inclined to say, if it aint broke ... but we are always looking for better ways to present our data to user and to Google. My gut right now, based on how Google is reading things, to just keep the aggregate rating on the location, but start to track reviews on a per employee basis for potential future use. Lemme know what you all think!

Google Knowledge graph card
Hi everyone, I've got quite a lot of good reviews on Google My Business, but I don't know how to get these to appear on my Knowledge Card. Any ideas for importing these across? I'd also like to include my social media tags in this card, but the HTML that I've tried to use has added the text to my homepage, whereas I wanted it invisible on the homepage but the social tags to show up in search. Cheers!

Does Google's 3rd Party Reviews Guideline Update make Review Aggregators Obsolete?
Good day!We are concerned about Google's updated Guidelines in ratings and reviews, specifically as quoted in the SEO Roundtable: "The new guidelines specifically disallows you from using 3rd party reviews, found on other sites, and marking those up on your site."https://www.seroundtable.com/google-updates-reviews-markup-guidelines-22608.htmlThe Guidelines are here https://developers.google.com/search/docs/data-types/reviews#local-business-reviewsWe enlist the use of a 3rd party aggregate for one of our client's (service business). Since, in effect, it is a 3rd party review site, and what the shortcode does is copy reviews from that third party site and mark them up on the client website. What do you guys know about this update, and what are is your take on what the update says and how it relates to a 3rd party review aggregators? Thanks!

Google Review Guidelines update.
OK Moz peeps... Right then, I have just been reading an article over on SEO RoundTable from Barry Schwartz. NEW Local review guidelines for businesses - take a look. It in effect alludes to Google stamping all over review schema and snippets, third party review solutions/providers and really trying to limit how they are used. I have interpreted the new guidelines to say that you can no longer mark up and use external stats on your own site in the form of aggregate ratings from the likes of TrustPilot, Feefo, Revoo (some uk review sites) and more.... These were the two key lines for more Only include reviews that have been directly produced by your site, not reviews from third-party sites or syndicated reviews. Aggregators or content providers must have no commercial agreements paid or otherwise with businesses to provide reviews. What does everyone else think? and how soon before people get penalised (if ever) for marking up external stats to make your own site and services look more favourable... Could definately be a slap in the face for Serp CTR and onpage conversion optimisation. Also how do people expect this to affect PPC review rating going forward. Will Partner sites become a thing of the past? Looking forward to a good discussion here 🙂 PS - I am not staff at Moz just have a t-shirt which is my avatar. I am not sure why below my avatar it suggests I am Staff due to the tag added to it. Is anyone else getting that on their profile too?

Google+ Places Reviews
Hi There, Am I right in saying that Google Places reviews cannot be reviewed easily if at all. I have advised a client wirth a negative review to instead respond to the review and get clients to place good quality reviews. However, they seem to think if I ring Google they will just remove them and that Google has confirmed this. I am pretty sure I am right but before I jump through pointless hurdles with Google to be told I am, I want to make sure. Has anyone been successful in removing negative reviews from Google. Kind Regards Neil

Google places and "people also search for"
I run a yoga studio in Toronto, Canada. I googled "Fireflow Yoga". The Google Places listing shows up on the right, and underneath it there is a listing for 5 competitors under the title "people also search for". Is there any way to turn it off that that "People also search for" does not appear as part of the listing? I also did a reciprocal search of the 5 competitors connected to our listing. They also have 5 "people also search for" on their places pages but we are not listed on their pages. What can I do to work towards Google showing our listing under "People also search for" when they look up similar businesses nearby? thanks. blBFSKU
