Our Domains DA has dropped from 52 to 17
-
Hi,
Our domain's DA (www.tricorglobal.com) has dropped drastically from 52 to 17 on Mar 2019. And has only gone up to 21 now. Is there a reason why this happened. On the other hand, our competitor's score has increased. Is there a valid reason for this? How can I find out what is hurting our DA and how can I fix this?

Hi!
The above answers are all great! Just to add on:
DA drop can be attributed to a few things:
1.Links we previously discovered are now marked as lost.
2. You've earned more links, but the highest authority sites have grown their link profile even more.
3. The links you've earned are from sites that we haven't seen correlate well with higher Google rankings.
4. We've done a better or worse job crawling sites/pages that have links to you (or don't).It's a bit difficult to isolate the exact cause of what happened without your own SEO consultant or developer being able to take a dive into this, but you can definitely read more specific information here if you'd like to understand more about the process:).
Best,
Eli

This is an absolutely key question, as Google do not use Moz's DA metric in their ranking algorithm (it is a useful indicator, but a 'shadow metric' only)
-
Comparably has there been any traffic impact? To yourself or competitor... ?
As DA is a guide only..

Moz's Link Explorer (which succeeds OSE / Open Site Explorer) is still very new. It's still discovering backlinks (for its new MLE index) which other tools have logged long ago. This means that when Moz does discover large chunks of links which it previously didn't know about, DA scores can shift quite radically in a matter of seconds (not because anything has actually changed, rather because Moz's view has changed!)
My suspicion is Moz has just uncovered a load of links pointing to the site which have existed for a long time, yet which Moz Link Explorer (MLE) hadn't previously noticed
I think it's probably these ones:

They seemed to mostly appear (or at least, were mostly detected by Ahrefs) between 3rd January 2016 and 10th February 2016
Maybe the issue is something different, but to me it 'sounds like' MLE has uncovered a 'stash' of spammy legacy links which it was previously unaware of. This would correlate with what Joe has found

Hello, the short answer is Moz has updated how DA is calculated - https://mza.bundledseo.com/domain-authority-2.0
I've had a quick look at your backlink profile & recommend that you thoroughly review it & disavow some of the High Spam & low DA Linking Domains of which there are roughly:
- 1263 Linking Domains with a high or non-descernable SPAM score - 75% & above SPAM score or marked as -%
- 1876 Linking Domain with a low DA - DA 10 & below
- 1196 with a combination of high or non-discernable SPAM score as well as a low DA
This is my personal starting point for weeding out bad Linking Domains, it has worked successfully on many occasions.
Also - have you made changes to the site over the period of time your domain dropped? Has your competitor for that mater?

Spam links and Domain Authority
I have a site that I know was Domain Authority 35 but now Domain Authority 25 after someone sent a load of spam links to it, how can this be correct and how can I change it? Is it worth doing a disavow and will moz take that into account?

Drop in rankings following a migration
Hi we have recently migrated our website and while I expected some drop in visibility I didnt expect a huge drop and definitely not a big drop in MozRank and MozTrust. But we went from 4.34 to 3.69 on Domain Rank and 4.42 to 3.85 in MozTrust. That to me looks like a lot. Particularly since I have been building links and it should be going up not down. We dont buy links and really dont employ any black hat link building. Now at the same time our total link profile looks massive. Apparently we have 18k of links. there is no way this is correct. Our competitors all have below 5k. The total links have grown from 13k to 18k in a month as well. Where is this coming from? Is there any way of seeing what these links are? Our visibility went up actually after the launch. Main keyword campaign went from 1.59% to 6.13% then to 7.53% at first. Which made sense since the new site has much better on page optimisation. But now this dropped again to 2.37%. Our competitors visibility is much more stable then that. I know some fluctuations is normal but these fluctuations seem a bit drastic. Are they? We still have a few 404s to sort out and quite a bit of re-directs on the page. But other then having impact on speed this should not influence the rankings so severely. Should it? Before we migrated the site I followed the instruction given by Moz https://mza.bundledseo.com/blog/web-site-migration-guide-tips-for-seos and yet there are all these issues that are popping up. It's disappointing that I made all this effort prior to migrating plus made sure our new page is much better in terms of SEO (I mean I even developed a pagination strategy to get rid of the duplicates!) and it doesnt seem like its paying of. Any help is much appreciated. Id say my SEO understanding is mid range but Im really interested in it and keen on building my skills. And this is really discouraging if Im honest. Please help

Guys and Girls, I'm having a weird issue in one of my sites , thing is the site had DA 11 in July and however when check on September Site is having 26 without me doing any type of link building and there are no new posts for this month as well. When checked using open site explorer there are no backlinks indexed in their Mozcape index as well. Site: http://www.beijingtravelchannel.com/ Can you give me any plausible reasons for this to happen, so that i can check them out. Thanks in Advance.0 -

Domain Authority still down
It was mentioned several weeks ago (http://moz.com/community/q/domain-authority-drops) that there had been a 2 point drop in the DA, and it was to be fixed at the "next" index. The index refresh happened 17th Jan but the DA seemed to remain the two points lower than expected. Is it just my sites 😞 or has this not been fixed yet... and will it be fixed? Regards, Gordon
