How does one submit data to the Knowledge Graph?
I'm working with a very reputable open source civic data compiler who'd like to give their data to the knowledge graph for it to be used. Does anybody know where I should start with this? Or, do you think it's possible to e-mail Google and ask to be included in the Knowledge Graph? The company that owns this compiler will likely have connections to them. Thanks!

How to make the most of our data, charts and graphs online?
Hi, Our business has an enormous amount of data at our disposal, which we have traditionally only ever printed in our offline publications. I am aware however that much of this information would be of great use to people searching for the topics we cover online, so it strikes me that there must be a way to represent our data, tables and graphs online to maximise the visibility of the information. For example rather than simply including an image of a graph on a web page and editing the alt text to something like "Saudi Arabia economic growth 1995-2016", is there a way to publish this data online that will give search engines and users some good contextual information about what we are trying to show? Would certain rich snippets for example do the trick? Any help or pointers that could be provided would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Lou

Is there any ranking benefit to buying and redirecting high PageRank domains?
Hello, I'm interested in learning how to assume ownership of a site without Google resetting the PageRank and the links back to zero. I've read that buying sites is one of the most powerful SEO "shortcuts" you can employ, but can be tricky. I've heard that, unfortunately, buying an existing domain and 301 redirecting for SEO credit is not that simple. When the WHOIS registration information on the newly purchased domain is updated to reflect its transfer to you, the new owner, that domain will almost immediately be reset by Google to a PageRank=0. That's the standard practice when a domain changes hands. Since Google is a domain registrar, obviously, change of ownership information is readily available for their use in factoring it into their algorithms. If you decide to 301 redirect the new domain to another domain you already own, you will get credit for the site's current incoming link profile, at least in the short-term. However, this purchased domain will eventually reset to PR=0 (usually during the next PageRank update) AND you will then get no credit for all of those links post-transfer. What is your experience with buying and redirecting domains?

Benefit of Targeting Low/No Volume Keyword Phrases
Hi Folks, I was having a discussion with a friend and colleague of mine yesterday about the pros and cons of targeting keyword phrases that have very little if any search volume. I was of the opinion that if the keyword phrases (whether they were local or not) did not have any search volume as indicated by Google's Keyword Planner tool, then they had little if any value. Would this be a correct assumption? Or is there merit to targeting these phrases in order to begin to build a picture of a sites overall subject matter and to help rank in local search? For example, say there is a phrase like 'second hand clothing slough' (just a random phrase) which has no search volume but 'second hand clothing' has 2400 visits a month, would it be worth targeting the search phrase with no volume to build a better local profile, so that if someone in Slough searches for 'second hand clothing' the site shows up for that keyword? Thanks in advance guys! Gareth

Best way to implement canonical tags on an ecommerce site with many filter options?
What would be the best way to add canonical tags to an ecommerce site with many filter options, for example, http://teacherexpress.scholastic.com? Should I include a canonical tag for all filter options under a category even though the pages don't have the same content? Thanks for reading!

New site now links disappearing in Open Site Explorer and GWT
We launched a new site at the beginning of December 2012 and carefully 301'd all URLs from the old site to the new (custom CMS on old site wordpress on new). Our rankings have slipped quite badly but the most worrying thing is that we used to have about 1200 backlinks according to GWT/OSE before the new site launched and now we're down to about 30. Can anyone help shed some light on this please? The site is www.littleoneslondon.co.uk A few things that might help: 1. We were getting a lot of links through our job feeds (it's a nanny recruitment site) on indeed and trovitt, for some reason no new ones from these have appeared in site explorer and all the old jobs are gone completely. 2. We had 1000s of not found errors in google webmaster tools and once these were redirected and marked as fixed this is when the links disappeared. 3. We are getting quite a few 504 errors on the site due to an old proxy redirect (/blog was hosted on a different server on the old site and has not been removed yet), this will be fixed tomorrow but could this be a factor? 4. The developer seems to have redirected all the links through wordpress directly some how (I don't see any redirect plugins but there are lots of pages called 'redirect'). There are no references in the htaccess file for any redirects other than from the /blog folder that the wordpress instance sits in. Sorry for the long post, I hope I've given any details you'd need and I really appreciate any help anyone can give. Thanks, Karl

How dependable is Open Site Explorer and the DA metrics
I wanted to get some feedback from the community on the accuracy and dependability of the Open Site Explorer and its DA metrics when evaluating the strength of a website and its authority on the web. It seems that the data available to OSE is quite different (limited) as compared to that of Google Webmaster tools. A site I'm evaluating shows the following discrepancy: Linking domains OSE = 11 Linking domains WMT = 95 Total Links OSE = 39 Total Links WMT = 579 With such a large discrepancy of linking domains and link backs, how accurate can the DA / PA metrics be - what goes into vs whats does not? I read some place that date OSE is not comprehensive but should account for the top 20% of links (I maybe off here), that said in comparing root domain data it seems to be missing many domains with high DA scores but includes others with very low DA scores. I would love some feedback or pointers on how much value I should be placing on the info provided by OSE, and opinions on how to truly define a baseline for a sites strength and its linkback structure.
