Hi Miriam,
Thank you very much for this detailed answer.
You made some very interesting points here, made me think
What i am looking for are businesses that provides online Local grocery services ( shopping and delivery) for DFW area (Dallas Forth Worth)
Can you suggest the best way to type it?
And after that - what i should find is, if this is the way most if the people will search in Google
For their local online grocery shopping & delivery company
Thank you again

Hi Ivgi,
Good question. In Local SEO, what you're describing is typically similar but not always exactly the same. There are 2 ways to typically get local results delivered to you by Google.
-
Typing in a keyword Google judges to have local intent and then matches to the location of your device. So, if you're in Dallas and search for 'grocery store', then Google will show you local grocery stores near you.
-
Typing in a keyword+geo term (Dallas) so that you are signalling to Google that you want results specific to that location. It doesn't have to be the location you're in. After all, someone located in Dallas may be looking for a hotel room in San Diego and by including 'San Dieogo' in their search term, they are signalling to Google that they want local results for a different city - not for the city in which their currently located.
You can do some testing of this and you will see that Google will show similar results for both types of queries, though there are typically some minor ranking differences. For example the searcher in Dallas who doesn't include 'Dallas' in his search term may see slight variations in which businesses are ranking where in the local pack of results than the searcher does who is including 'Dallas' in his search term, but isn't actually located in Dallas. The differences are typically slight.
You can also test this out by using Google's search refinement tools to set your location to different cities and perform searches. Again, you may see some slight differences than when you aren't setting your location, but they are slight.
I've explained the above because I'm not sure whether the sample search term you've included in your post is your actual search term. I've explained how Local works, but, all this being said, your sample search is not typically going to bring up Local results, because of the inclusion of 'online' in your query. That is telling Google that you don't care if a business is in Dallas or not. You want to buy something online.
In that case, then, no, you are unlikely to get the same kinds of results for the two different queries. 'Buy Groceries Online Dallas' is likely telling Google you want results from Dallas-based virtual businesses that sell groceries on the Internet, whereas 'Buy Groceries Online" is almost certain to return you generic, national results, regardless of where you are located. There may be some Dallas results included, but I would predict that there would be national ones as well.
The best way for you to research this is to perform your own varied searches for whatever your real search term is. Hope this helps!

Http vs Https Related Rankings Drop?
I've noticed in a number of keyword ranking tools (Moz included) that our rankings have dropped substantially for a number of our top performing keywords precisely 7 days back. When you view the attached screenshot you'll see there was a drastic drop in the overall organic impressions as well as a drop in keyword rankings. I also noticed that all the keywords which have dropped in rank now show with the https version of our home page url. I've read up on this and it believe that this should not cause a drop in rankings but we have even added https as a domain in webmaster tools with no improvement. Quite simply, has Google de-indexed our http home page url which was previously tied to our higher rankings for our core keywords? How can we get this back without "disavowing" our https version of the site. We're not doing anything to game search results so I dont think we're being penalized, simply there is some sort technical glitch taking place between recognizing HTTP vs HTTPS versions of our site. Our home page is goo.gl/qVPRwf and an example keyword is "wedding ring sets his and hers" Can anyone recommend further debugging steps or have an understanding of what can be done at this point? Also, if it helps, I have studied the Help Center, read the FAQs and searched for similar questions with no success.wedding ring sets his and hers impressions%20-%20ranking%20drop.png?dl=0

Issue with Category Ranking on Page 1 vs. Homepage Ranking on Page 2
A client has a high-volume keyword that is rendering different results, whether it is on page one or page two of Google SERPs. If the keyword is on page one, ONLY the category page is ranking. When the keyword bumps off to page two, BOTH the category AND the homepage are ranking. This is happening on our IP and theirs, incognito and personalized searches. This has been happening since February. Any thought/insights would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!!!

Doorway Algorithm Update Affecting Location Based Pages?
Hi all, I read this article concerning the doorway algorithm update - http://searchengineland.com/google-to-launch-new-doorway-page-penalty-algorithm-216974 This quote is what got my attention: "How do you know if your web pages are classified as a “doorway page?” Google said asked yourself these questions: Is the purpose to optimize for search engines and funnel visitors into the actual usable or relevant portion of your site, or are they an integral part of your site’s user experience? Are the pages intended to rank on generic terms yet the content presented on the page is very specific? Do the pages duplicate useful aggregations of items (locations, products, etc.) that already exist on the site for the purpose of capturing more search traffic? Are these pages made solely for drawing affiliate traffic and sending users along without creating unique value in content or functionality? Do these pages exist as an “island?” Are they difficult or impossible to navigate to from other parts of your site? Are links to such pages from other pages within the site or network of sites created just for search engines?" We utilize location based pages for ourselves and a few clients too. **Example Case: ** -We attempt to rank for "keyword city/state" - "keyword city/state" - "keyword city/state" The keywords will often be the same such as "AC Repair" or "Physical Therapy" etc. with city / state combination such as "Tulsa, OK" "Seattle, WA" etc. The goal is to rank locally for those terms (NAP is applicable in some circumstances). Does the above case classify as a Doorway page? According to that definition, it does. However, this is a business that services that area. Some don't have physical address there but they do service that area (whether it be AC Repair or Website Design). Please advise me as to what a doorway page is exactly & if my practice is in-line. Thanks, Cole

Server Location & SEO
So I just read an interesting Tweet: #SEO Tip: #Google takes into account the location of the server (the IP) when projecting the search results #web This is something I had not thought of. I suppose my question then is HOW does it factor this information into it's results? For some reason, one of our sites is hosted on a Canadian server. We are a cloud hosting company and we serve all of NA with data centers in the US and Canada... For whatever reason we've used the Canadian server farm for our web server. Could this possibly be hurting our NA google SERPs? Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Bing Vs Google SERP
I realize the major search engines use different criteria but I don't see how - for the same home page keyword - my site could rank #3 on page 1 for a Bing search and be off the charts (Page 15+)? on Google. Has Google gone so far off the charts with their new Penguins and Pandas so as to be in a different universe? Seems Google is now extremely over-weighting big sites like Wikipedia, WebMD, eHow, etc. and in doing so vastly reducing the diversity of results shown. I am commonly seeing different pages of the same website appear multiple times in the first 2-3 pages of Google results. What's the point?

Organic ranking vs Local ranking
After reading this blog entry from Dr Pete on Mirametrix, my question would be:
Algorithm Updates | | echo1
What's more important for a local company, being in the 7 pack or in the top 10 organic results? Which one attracts more clicks? Is the optimization for local ranking just became more important than the traditional SEO?0
