Is checkout page setup (in regards to abandonment) this sensitive?!?!

About a week ago, I added a google checkout button (which wasn't really positioned well) & option to add a note on my checkout page for my site. Over the next three days, my cart abandonment was 100%!!!!! 16 customers got to checkout, but all of them dropped out...
I was starting to freak out and finally took the google button & note option down. Since then, I'm back up to about 50% abandonment.
Is the ecosystem of a checkout page really this sensitive? If so, holy S#$%!
Just wondering if anyone has any general advice or links for me to study up on checkout abandonment.
Maybe we can get a Whiteboard Friday discussing this?

Small changes **CAN **have a big affect on e-commerce checkout, but in your case, I'd suspect one of two possibiliteis:
1. Your customers are using the Google Checkout option, which isn't showing up in your analytics. If you log into your google wallet dashboard, do you see any completed transactions? If so, then you just need to make sure your clickstream analytics package is configured on your google checkout pages. Are you using Google Analytics or another package? Assuming you have Google Analytics with E-Commerce tracking enabled, you need to make sure that google analytics is enabled; so whichever javascript method you're using (ga.js, ga.js Asynchronous Tracking,
urchin.js, or the brand new analytics.js) needs to be added to your google checkout pages, per these instructions: https://developers.google.com/checkout/developer/checkout_analytics_integration#Overview2. You have a flaw in your Google Checkout implementation that is keeping people from checking out. Ask some friends or family (who aren't too familiar with your webdite) to buy something and checkout. Get someone to try using the Google Checkout option, and another person to bypass the Google Checkout and use your legacy payment path. Are both test users able to checkout? Do your analytics see both success checkouts?
It is possible that your analytics are working perfectly, that you Google Checkout is functioning fine, and that just the extra "cognitive load" of having two payment options is enough to drive abandonment, but I doubt it. You could use Google Analytics (or another A/B testing tool) to run a marketing experiment with and without google checkout to confirm that the new option is your problem.

Do the clickable images on pages are bad that they will increase bounce rate and distract users?

Will Landing Page Design with Large Areas of White Background Enjoy a Higher Conversion Rate?
My designer has created a landing page with a dark background. Text is white and other colors. Does a dark background impact the conversion rate? Is it better to have a white background? I am concerned that a dark background may distract visitors. Any possibility to track goal completions/conversions at a sub-page (non-landing page) level in Google Analytics?
We’re promoting our sub-page it's http://www.flightcentre.ca/flights/london on our homepage under the slideshow so I need to see how many people went to the homepage, then went to this page, and then converted (enquired or booked.) What I can’t see is how many people did that. I know how to look up how many people landed on that page and then converted, but I need to know how many people navigated there and then converted. Is that possible? I can only see Goal Completions if I look at that page as a landing page, but that only presents a very slim view of the total visits when compared to those pages generally. Any way to check the entire behavior or activities happening through this page i.e. /flights/london?

Adwords Remarketing Advice - Low Traffic Pages
Moz, I am just looking for a little advice if anyone has any experience with Google Adwords and remarketing in particular, I am currently looking through the Adwords help pages to gain a better understanding of how Adwords remarketing works, from what i gather this can be a really useful resource to use in certain industries and i have a lot of ideas and scenarios where i think this could work really well, I am just trying to get a good understanding of the how remarketing lists are built up, Using Rule based targeting for visitors that have visited a specific page that gains roughly 1200 unique visits every 60 days, so i have set the membership duration to 60 days, So if i use the visit of this page as a rule for my list, then in a little less than 60 days time then my custom ads should start appearing to these previous visitors ? My Question Am a right in thinking the remarketing list is like a funnel, once 1000 visitors are added to this list/funnel then my ads will start showing, but then as those visitors in the funnel have reached the 61st Day they will be removed, and replaced with the new visitors being added to the list for that day ? Aslong as my list remains above 1000 visitors it will continue to show, but if i were to drop below 1000 visits within that 60 days my ads would not be visible ? so i would need to potentially extend the membership period if this happens ? Apologies as i really struggled to explain this question as best as i can 🙂 Hope someone can drop me a quick comment and straighten this out to ensure that i am on the right track and i am understanding this correctly 🙂 Thanks a lot James

Create better conversion at checkout?
I'm getting extremely poor conversion rates at checkout..would like to hear some ideas to increase checkout. Last month we had 60 users who added to cart, and only 7 who converted. We offer merchant CC, PayPal, and GCO, so I don't believe payment options is the reason for the exit. Any ideas?

Using overlay content on landing pages - possible? recommended?
We want to use an overlay, like a modal dialog, in a landing page to show more information to support conversion without linking to another page or using popups. Anyone have any stats on success or risks? We've considered simple roll-overs to provide some more info, but everyone has raised alarms that we may be introducing a potential technical or usability hurdle for users. The overlay would display when someone rolled over or clicked a "Learn More" link on the page to provide additional offer reinforcement points to drive the visitors from consideration to conversion. Aside from our own testing, we don't have any sources to cite as to whether this approach can or will impact or aid conversion. Any insights would be appreciated.

Landing Page Conversion
Hi, I'm having a few issues with my landing page conversion. I have followed several guides found on this site (especially the unbounce.com ones) but what'ever I try my landing page CRO doesn't seem to increase. the landing page in question is http://www.drivingtestnow.co.uk/find-driving-test-cancellations. I'm getting traffic to my landing page solely through PPC traffic from Google. My stats are rough as follows: Arrive at landing page - 100% (obviously)

Actually complete the buy now process - 1% Conversion from organic traffic landing directly on the homepage at http://www.drivingtestnow.co.uk is having a conversion rate of about 5%. It seems odd to me that my highly targeted ad campaign and landing page are convertign so badly compared to the less atrgeted organic search traffic and homepage. Have you got any ideas why this might be occurring and also any tips on how I can improve the conversion rate for my product? Gary...0
