Star ratings in rich snippets not displaying
-
Hi all,
I have a site where star ratings are being used in rich snippets. Up until about 8 weeks ago these were displaying in SERPs as normal. They have since stopped being displayed in SERPs even though Google's Rich Snippets testing tool says that the markup is correct and they display within the test tool environment.
I'm just wondering if anybody else has had the same problem and if there's a solution?
Thanks,
Elias

I too have seen this behavior, and don't know of a one-fits-all solution. Personally I'd start examining things with the specific URL. Do other results in those SERPs have stars?

Hi Rich,
There's one particular page on one of our websites that is very powerful, really high page authprity on a site with a huge domain authority yet the rich snippets are intermitent. Some days they're there some days they're not.
I'm not sure why but it is only the stars that do not always display. The date of the review is consistent.
Strange.

Hi Elias
Few things are as temperamental as rich snippets. We've been experimenting with flavours of them for about 6 months and now have star ratings displayed for virtually every SERP entry.
However there's one page on our site with great page authority, that has been around for years, that we embedded star ratings on to 3 months ago yet Google refuses to show any snippets at all. Can't see any reason why this one page won't take. We've not yet been able to crack this one so any pointers would be really helpful!

Displaying Vanity URL in Google Search Result
Hi Moz! Not sure if this has been asked before, but is there any way to tell Google to display a vanity URL (that has been 301d) instead of the actual URL in the SERP? Example: www.domainA.com is a vanity URL (bought specifically for Brand Identity reasons) that redirects to www.domainB.com. Is it possible to have the domainA Url show up in Google for a Branded search query? Thanks in advance! Arjun

Displaying Long Product Descriptions on Mobile
Hello, One of our clients has a website which sells health products and supplements. All of the products have detailed descriptions that include ingredients information, usage, supplements facts, detailed information on how the products affect you, a detailed guarantee and FAQs. Our client would like to display a more synthesised product description on mobile devices. This would be a shortened description which would make it easier for people to understand what the benefits of the products are. At the moment we still have the previously developed 'Read Product Description' button that expands and reveals more text. We need to remove this and display a different shortened description but still follow Google's best practices. If the content on the mobile differs from the website, will it have a detrimental effect on the website's ranking in Google? If this is so, we face a barrier when trying to create a summarised version of the website for mobiles. Had anyone had a similar experience? If so, please advise on what the best approach would be for this to maintain a high ranking in Google, but display differing content across platforms. Much appreciated,

Duplicate Page Due To Website Display Function
Hi Can anyone help with how I can rectify a duplicate issue? A high priority on my Moz report shows a duplicate issue however, this is due to the way the website is structured. For example. the below duplicate is created due to the website having a function to display all trips, so customers do not need to search page by page i.e: http://www.bikecation.co.uk/categories/cycling-climbs http://www.bikecation.co.uk/categories/cycling-climbs/page/2?showall=1 My question is, Will this format damage the SEO for this page? Is there a way to rectify? Would a canonical tag work in this case? Many Thanks Claire

Generating Rich Snippets without Structured Data
I noticed something in Google search results today that I can't explain. Any help would be appreciated. I performed a real estate based search and the top result featured a rich snippet showcasing the following... Address Price Bd/Ba

912 Garden District Dr #17. Charlotte, NC 28202 $179,990 3 / 2
222 S Caldwell St #1602. Charlotte, NC 28202 $389,238 2 / 2&1/2 However, when I visit the page associated with this information, there is no Schema to be found. In fact, the page is, for the most part, just a large table listing homes on the market. The table headings are Address, Price, and Bd/Ba. Is it common for Google to use table based data to generate rich snippets? What is the best way to influence this? In the absence of Schema (as the page we are talking about has no Schema implementation), does Google default to table data? Has anyone seen this behavior before and, if so, can you point me to it? EDIT: I've now come across a few other examples where the information is not in a table, but rather in divs. Why are such sites (you can find some by searching for "[ZIPCODE] real estate") getting this treatment?0 -
Is it ok to add snippet of information taken from other sites on product pages?
Hello here, I own an e-commerce website that sells digital sheet music, and I would like to enrich my product pages with short references to artists/composers related to the product, taken from external websites such as mentions, fresh news, information taken from related videos, cross-references, etc. In other words, I'd like to provide our users with a different kind of informational content that our competitors are currently not offering. We could also think of this like "providing some sort of aggregate content on product pages to enrich the user's experience by providing more information about the product". What do you think are the risks or the benefits of such an approach? And if there are any risks, how to avoid/tackle them? Any thoughts are very welcome! Thank you in advance to anyone.

Need help identifying why my content rich site was hurt by the Panda Update.
Hi - I run a hobby related niche new / article / resource site (http://tinyurl.com/4eavaj4) which has been heavily impacted by the Panda update. Honestly I have no idea why my Google rankings dropped off. I've hired 2 different SEO experts to look into it and no one has been able to figure it out. My link profile is totally white hat and stronger then the majority of my competitors, I have 4000+ or so pages of unique, high quality content, am a Google News source, and publish about 5 new unique articles every day. I ended up deleting a 100 or so thin video pages on my site, did some url reorganization (using 301s), and fixed all the broken links. That appeared to be helping as my traffic was returning to normal. Then the bottom dropped out again. Since Saturday my daily traffic has dropped by 50%. I am really baffled at this point as to what to do so any help would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks, Mike [email protected]

DCMI and Google's rich snippets
I haven't seen any consistent information regarding DCMI tags for organic SEO in a couple of years. Webmaster Tools obviously has a rich set of instructions for microdata. Has there been any updated testing on DCMI or information above the whisper/rumor stage on whether engines will be using Dublin? As a final point, would it be worth going back to static pages that haven't been touched in a couple of years and updating them with microdata? It seems a natural for retail sites and maybe some others, but what about content heavy pages?
