What backlink is better?
-
Hi Guys
I recently helped out a friend with some marketing advice and to do me a favour back he said that he'll put a link on his site back to my website.
Just some background on the site, it is very high quality with DA of 71 with each blog post/inner page having roughly PA of 45, it's been online for 15 years and has nearly 4,000 indexed pages and 10,000 links.
Anyway my question is would it be better to get a sitewide link in a sidebar that is displayed on every page of his website or would it be better to write a blog post on the site that links back to mine?
Thanks

I would never advise a sitewide link. It's a primary metric in my determination in paid links.
Additionally, a sitewide link is not contextual, and can drag the wrong co-citation metrics into it. (if there are other somewhat unrelated links in that same section)
I would suggest:
1. Writing an incredibly awesome post that will resonate VERY well with that audience
2. Pre-promote the post if possible in order to determine some support and / or test whether it will "fly"
3. Ensure the post is stellar. Use the 21 types of content guide by CMI to ensure it is awesome and fits those criteria.
4. Ask this person to publish, promote in their SM. Promote in your SM.
5. Outreach to further influencers and site owners in that niche and ask them to link to that post.Hope this helps!

If they are both about the same topic then a sitewide link could help, if not you might want to consider adding a post that talks about your industry with a well place link.

Backlink Help - Contact Site Owners or 301 Redirect?
Hi, I am performing some backlink updates for a client and would like to know if I can speed the process up. Currently I am contact site owners and asking them to update the links that appear on their website of my clients. As this is tedious work, can I just setup 301 redirects for these products instead of contacting site owners and asking them to change the URL? Is there any benefit to having the proper URL on other websites? Thanks in advance!

Heavy Weight Backlink not Showing in Google Webmaster Tool
Hi Mozzers I got a nice backlink from Huffingtonpost already a couple of months ago from this page to coinstackr.com: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/25/mt-gox-bitcoin_n_4854095.html However, the link doesn't show in the Google Webmaster Tools. Is that common? Cheers, Chris

Should I request backlinks to use anchor text that is page specific?
I work for a community college, with fairly high seo for the college in general. We have no budget for advertising specific programs, so we are trying to optimize individual pages on the website, e.g., physical therapy assistant, welding, etc. Does it make a difference if other websites use our main url, college name, or the college name plus specific program as the anchor text? Also, I'm seeing some posts here recommending to avoid lots of directory listings. I assume that doesn't apply to industry specific directories, like nursing school directories, right? I'm still a very new newbie and appreciate your advice.

Blogging for backlinks
I have a real estate website. I would like to start blogging on blogs not related to real estate. I like reading web design, html, css, php, word press etc... blogs. I want to start talking to the bloggers using my real name (not keyword anchor text) on their blog. I'd like to have authentic conversations; however, will this confuse google about my site? If I am using my name as anchor text on sites about webdesign and linking back to a real estate website, what will that do to the SEO? It's also important to consider one other detail. I have determined through link building in real estate related fields that it's really hard to find good domains/page rank when compared to the fields above. I could get a dozen great links in 10 minutes on the above subjets AND be legitimately engaging in conversation with my name, not keywords... Does the invention of "author rank" make this more viable?
