Eliminate render blocking javascript and css recommendation?
-
Our site's last Red flag issue is the "eliminate render blocking javascript and css" message. I don't know how to do that, and while I'm not sure if I could spend hours/days cutting and pasting and guessing until I made progress, I'd rather not. Does anyone know of a plugin that will just do this? Or, if not, how much would it cost to get a web developer to do this?
Also, if there is not plugin (and it didn't look like there was when I looked) how long do you think this would take someone who knows what they are doing to complete.
The site is: www.kempruge.com
Thanks for any tips and/or suggestions,
Ruben

Yes, it's over a month, and for the most part of the month our page speed score was 66 ave for the 3 seconds. Now, with the adjustments I've made and switching to a new hosting company, we're at an 81 as of this morning. So, I guess if 3 seconds at a 66 isn't terrible, we'll probably be in an acceptable range following the improvements.
Either way, thanks so much for the industry stats and the article. It's easy to find "how to make your website faster" info, but MUCH more difficult to find an article that I can trust. Thanks for the tip!

Hi Ruben,
That analytics data is over a month or so right? Just to make sure we are not talking about an unusually fast or slow day!
3 seconds is not too bad. It can depend a lot on the type of site you have or the industry. Check this for a recent rundown of stats by country/industry. Also check out this article for a good rundown of tactics to use in reducing load times.
I would look at doing some of the more easy fixes included in the above article (if you havent already) before you move to trying to adjust the script rendering issues, especially if you do not have an inhouse person that is comfortable doing it. If you have already done all of that, then really it is a matter of how much effort it will require to find someone to diagnose and make the needed changes to the site code versus how much load/rendering time that will shave off. Personally, I think it might not be worth it, but others may disagree

Thanks Lynn! Yes, they are from Google Page Speed Insights. Attached is our pagespeed times from GA. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if they're okay or not. I just don't know enough, other than, faster is usually better.
Your thoughts?
Thanks,
Ruben

Hi,
Are you getting this flag from google page speed insights? Render blocking scripts are basically scripts that are called in the beginning of the page (the head usually) but are not really used either for that page or for the content of that page that is immediately visible, so downloading them first delays the rendering of the page. Depending on the structure of your site/code, plugins used etc fixing this could be as simple as moving a couple of lines of code in the template or..... quite complicated indeed.
What are your page load times in google analytics looking like? I had a look at your page and it seemed to load pretty fast so I would check load times in GA and see if the problem is really as urgent as you think. The page speed insight tool will flag everything it sees, but sometimes it can give you kind of false positives and other times just be recommending things mechanically that are not a huge issue in the grand scale of things!

Country Redirect Javascript
We are building a new site on .com and wish to redirect traffic from US to a dedicated US-specific version of the homepage , whereas international traffic will go to the standard homepage. We acknowledge the problems of IP redirection and googlebot crawling from US. So instead we are considering a Javascript pop-up if we recognise a US visitor (based on IP) which asks the user if they wish to view the US version or International version. We will store cookie of preferred selection for future visits. Within the site we will have a US/International selector. Can Moz community members confirm this is the best approach? Thanks

What recommendations do you have for the SEO of this site?
Hello, Could you glance at this site and let me know if you see anything we could improve upon? www.nlpca.com A couple of notes: We're over-optimized for the term "NLP" on the home page. We're removing the footer links soon. We have 2 locations: San Francisco, CA and Salt Lake City, UT. Our main keyword is "NLP Training" but we would like to rank higher for the keyword "NLP". Also note that we're completely white hat, but we have international site-wide backlinks, and a couple of site-wide backlinks in site's footers - all friends and colleagues of ours.

Pros vs Cons - Navigation/content embedded within javascript
My programmer showed me this demo website where all the navigation and content is embedded within javascript: http://sailsjs.org/#! Google site search returned 51 in results, all pages pretty much unique Title Tags and Meta Descriptions Bing site search returned 24 results with pretty much identical Title Tags and Meta Descriptions Matt Cutts said it's fine but to test first: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mibrj2bOFCU Has anyone seen any reason to avoid this web convention? My gut is to avoid this approach with the main drawback I see is that websites like this won't do well on search engines other than Google that have less sophisticated algorithms. thoughts?

Website Displayed by Google as Https: when all Secure Content is Blocked - Causing Index Prob.
Basically, I have no inbound likes going to https://www.mysite.com , but google is indexing the Homepage only as https://www.mysite.com In June, I was re included to the google index after receiving a penalty... Most of my site links recovered fairly well. However my homepage did not recover for its top keywords. Today I notice that when I search for my site, its displayed as https:// Robots.txt blocks all content going to any secure page. Leaving me sort of clueless what I need to do to fix this. Not only does it pose a problem for some users who click, but I think its causing the homepage to have an indexing problem. Any ideas? Redirect the google bot only? Will a canonical tag fix this? Thx

Block search bots on staging server
I want to block bots from all of our client sites on our staging server. Since robots.txt files can easily be copied over when moving a site to production, how can i block bots/crawlers from our staging server (at the server level), but still allow our clients to see/preview their site before launch?

Anchor Tag around Table / Block
Our homepage (here) has four large promotional sections taking up most of the real estate. Each promo section has an image and styled text. We want each promo section to link to the appropriate page, so we created the promo sections as and wrapped each in an anchor. That works fine for users but I tried viewing our site in a text-only browser (Lynx) and couldn't follow those links! My fear is that GoogleBot can't follow them either and doesn't know what anchor text to pull. So, my question: What's the best way to make this entire block clickable, but still have it crawlable by robots? Or is our current implementation ok? For reference, here's a simplified version of the relevant code block: | | All Diamonds Extra 20% Off | [| | Jessica Simspon Extra 20% Off |](http://jessicasimpson.jewelry.com/shop/)
