Are nofollow, noindex meta tags healthy for this particular situation?
-
Hi mozzers,
I am conducting an audit for a client and found over 200 instances using meta tags(nofollow, noindex). These were implemented essentially on Blog pages/category pages, tags not blog posts which is a good sign.
I believe that tagged URLs aren't something to worry about since these create tons of duplicates. In regards to the category page, i feel that it falls in the same basket as tags but I am not positive about it.
Can someone tell me if these are fine to have noindex, nofollow?
Also on the website subnav which are related to the category pages mentioned prev, the webmaster have implemented noindex, follow(screenshot below), which seems ok to me? am i right?
Thanks

In any of those cases, archive pages, tag pages, author pages, etc, I would go with a noindex, follow. As you want the posts they link to to be indexed, but you don't need the tag (,etc.) pages indexed, just followed to let the pagerank flow and let search engines crawl the pages they link to (actual posts).
Hope that helps!

Canonical Tags for Legacy Duplicate Content
I've got a lot of duplicate pages, especially products, and some are new but most have been like this for a long time; up to several years. Does it makes sense to use a canonical tag pointing to one master page for each product. Each page is slightly different with a different feature and includes maybe a sentence or two that is unique but everything else is the same.

Blocked by meta-robots but there is no robots file
OK, I'm a little frustred here. I've waited a week for the next weekly index to take place after changing the privacy setting in a wordpress website so Google can index, but I still got the same problem. Blocked by meta-robots, no index, no follow. But I do not see a robot file anywhere and the privacy setting in this Wordpress site is set to allow search engines to index this site. Website is www.marketalert.ca What am I missing here? Why can't I index the rest of the website and is there a faster way to test this rather than wait another week just to find out it didn't work again?

Img before or after h1 tag?
I like images to align right at top of content page. img tag before h1 tag looks better on page, but wondering if h1 tag before img tag is preferred by spider. Irrelevant? or possibly matters? thanks for any thoughts.
