Linking new domain to existing domain or....
-
We have a client's domain that has been live for 8 years. truthbook.com. With the new changes to Google, no matter what we do, we cannot get the words Urantia Book to connect with the website and lift it's search engine returns to the first page where it was for the past 4 years.. It is clear, that no matter what Google may say, the most important factor is having the actual words urantiabook in the domain is imperative. We know it was that way before Google changes (they were always on the first page) but now the client cannot get back on the front page.
The mission and theme of the site is Jesus in The Urantia Book. So it is not a stretch to acquire urantiabookandjesus.com and forward it to truthbook.com
The question is, "will they get any bang for the change? If they considered changing the actual main domain to urantiabookandjesus.com or .org and forward truthbook.com to it, will they be hurt by that strategy? "
Thanks, Jim

Hi,
First of all, it isn't imperative to have any keywords in a URL to appear 1st, or indeed, anywhere in the URL. There are circumstances it will help, but it isn't imperative. How well your site matches the content of the pages is going to be key for you. Google is always going to be looking for a site that is going to be seen as an authority on the subject.
To answer your question, if you just buy a domain and then forward it, the domain that is just forwarded will not appear in Google at all. The only time there will be a forward, is when someone types the domain in exactly.
it sounds like they have a good domain that is old and will have lots of history attached to it. I would start to look at penalties, what has happened at specific dates and see if you can come up with a correlation. There is always a reason, and there is no reason why they cannot rank again.

About to give up - shall I buy links?
So I have been at this for years! I cannot get Google to improve the rank on my travel site. The site has great relevant content that is constantly updated, it's optimized, has good page speed, active on social media. I have added backlinks where I could. I changed domain name about 4 years ago which probably impacted my rankings at the time. MOZ just did a walk through with me and couldn't really suggest any improvements. I remain with a low domain authority and consistently place under my competitor on Google. Last resort is to buy backlinks through fiverr. Is that a big mistake? https://tamarindobeachinfo.com

Domain Transition: Moving over paid traffic campaigns first
We're planning a domain name (rebrand) transition, and considering our options. We rely heavily on paid traffic. To reduce risk, we’re considering moving AdWords and Bing Ads over campaign-by-campaign to the new domain first, while organic traffic continues to direct to the old domain. Each of our ad groups has a custom, noindex’d landing page. In order to serve paid traffic, we’d at minimum need a front page, and likely a privacy policy page in addition. Here’s a rough outline of what I think a transition like this might look like: Launch new domain with a simple front page, and privacy policy. Move over ppc landing pages on the new domain (noindex'd, robots.txt) Create new ads in existing ad groups directing to the new domain. Monitor ad groups for some time period to verify sustainability. Once we're satisfied with ppc performance, and planned the rest of the organic page migrations, 301 redirect everything to the new domain. Is there any problems or things we should be concerned about with this approach? I'd think it should be fine, but I've been bitten enough from large-scale redirects in the past, that I know I should be nervous.

Switch to naked domain that has higher page authority
Brilliant Moz community! I just started here and find it so helpful and am confident that I can get an answer to this. Our domain is currently https://www.example.com. I have been wanting to move to https://example.com just for a cleaner URL. To my surprise, https://example.com has the same DA but a significantly higher page authority than our current https://www.example.com. Of course my immediate reaction is to 301 to the https://example.com but I wanted to get some advice and anything we should consider before doing this. My other question would be - how is this possible? I don't remember that we ever used that domain but we also had some rather bad developers a couple of years back. Thank you so much in advance!

Requesting Link
Hi guys, A coworker of mine was quoted on behalf of our financial firm in an article for Reuters a few months back. The article itself has taken off and has been posted several times on different websites. I've reached out to a few requesting they back link to our site when mentioning our business, but so far I'm getting a lot of rejection e-mails. The last one I received says they won't hyperlink to a company unless it's for a "specific reason". Anyone have any suggestions on how to better request these links--or communicate the "specific reason" I apparently need to have? I tried explaining in my initial message that it was beneficial for the reader, etc. etc, but all these outlets still seem to be against the idea. Thanks!

Can i link my rel=publisher to a number of relevant microsites ?
We have linked our Google plus company profile to our main website and setup a rel=publisher authorship which appears and works fine in the SERPS as we regularly create Google plus posts about our industry and products. We also gain some good traffic through some of our smaller product specific micro sites so i wanted to setup our publisher markup for these also as some of our posts are relevant to these products. I setup the rel=publisher on one of these , but the Google snippet testing tool says that the rel publisher is unverified. Is this Google's way of saying i cannot use the same Google plus company profile across multiple sites My question is: Does Google not allow you to display the same Google plus rel publisher profile for multiple websites ? or is the there a problem with how i am marking up my micro sites ? has anybody tried this ?

Guest Posts/Blogs/Articles Link Building
Is it me or are the usual places you used to go for to find quality blogs to guest post to seem to be full of low quality spammy blogs. And doing a search brings up loads of poor quality sites/blogs too. I was thinking of creating a high quality content site for link bait. Any suggestions on "refreshing" a tired link strategy. Where do you find your guest blog/posts?

Do non-spammy authoritative press release sites exist?
Hi there, To help get news out about our business and increase brand awareness, I am considering doing the occasional press release. However doing research on new SEO client backlinks there seem to be a lot of poor quality, spammy press release sites. So I would appreciate some opinions on decent sites please. Obviously we wouldn't be 'article marketing' so only new unique posts would be put out there and not in duplicates either - so one press release to one site etc. Also just curious as to whether this still works for SEO? But this is a secondary concern, because the activity would be for brand awareness - so avoiding rubbish sites will save us time, effort and potential damage. Thanks in advance!
