How come Moz is showing less Links to my site than Webmaster?
-
I have 683 total links in Webmaster, Moz showing 16?
-
Chris,
Even though Google crawls more of the web than any other service, it has a metric it uses to determine which and how many links to show you in the tool. It does not show all of your links, even though it knows better than any service exactly how many you have.
Moz, does not crawl the web as deeply as Google but it does report on all of the links it finds. Rather than attempting to index the entire web, Moz focuses on crawling the pages down to a depth that have an impact on search results. If the pages it crawls have outbound links on them, those are the links that are likely to passing some amount of pagerank/authority to the page their pointing at. Below that level, the quality/pagerank/authority is too low to be of any assistance to the page it may be linking to.
So, where GWT links represent a sample of your total links, open site explorer is a tool designed to show you the total number of links that are helping you with your rankings. Other tools exist as well, and they use different crawl strategies and that present links based on different metrics. I think the more you understand OSE, the more useful you will find it.

So with the exception of keyword ranking the data in Moz is mostly useless?
-
There are loads of answers to this question, but in essence here is a couple of reasons..
Moz will only crawl a high ranking site regularly and therefore if your site is not high ranking and any links to it have not been fully crawled, you will not see in OSE (Open Site Explorer) all links. When Moz finds your site and crawls it, then they will update your links etc in OSE. This can be months apart and not regularly as in the monthly crawl.
Google can crawl billions of pages due to their huge scale, whereas Moz and others don't have this level of scale, therefore it is always recommended to use other sites such as Hrefs to get a fuller picture.
Moz is brilliant for giving us great insites into our own sites and where to improve and therefore by using their tools effectively then you will start to get higher ranking links, which in turn will result in due course to you being crawled by Moz monthly.
Hope that answers a bit of the reason
Bruce.

If I disavow bad links on "disavow link webmaster" will they still show up on my moz reports?
We recently found out we have a lot of bad links linking back to our website from spam sites, I disavowed them through the google disavow link webmaster. On my moz report it still shows the links, is that normal?

Should i disavow yellowpages.com. Webmater tools shows 656 links coming from it.
We do not have any manual penalty warnings but I am still concerned that Google will see this as unnatural and be penalizing us to a lesser degree.

Spam Links sent to my site.
Hello, I'll try to be concise as I can. I run a coupon codes site.

Today when I loggein in webmaster tools I noticed many new links to my website. And all to a single page. (mydomain.com/stores/companyname).
I tend to think that spam was made by the person who owns that company because he/she used achors related to his bussiness rather than the company name + coupon or company name + discounts. Besides the fact that these links have no value and created automatically by software there are also links from pornographic websites. (bet he paid someone on fiverr for link building and made my website tier 1) I was thinking of 2 options:
1. I remove that page from my website. (mydomain.com/stores/hiscompany) and use disallow. Not sure I can find all the links poiting to that page.
2. Redirect that page mydomain.com/stores/company to hiscompany.com so he can enjoy his spam. I would appreciate if someone can answer me.1 -
Why Would Google Webmaster Tools State More Links Than Details Show?
I am trying to clean up links. I've gone into webmaster tools and it reports that I have 216 links from a particular domain. When I click thru to get details it reports all the links point to 1 page, then when I click on that page it only reports 1 inbound link. The links are coming from a directory site which appears to have been penalized. OSE doesn't report any links from this domain. Should I be overly alarmed? How can I determine what is correct, and whether I should take action (the site wants to charge me to remove each url). Thanks in advance. Alan

When placing content on external sites, what are some best practices for back links?
Hi there, I am working on a content strategy that includes placing content (i.e. bylined articles, how-to's, guest blogs, etc.) on other web sites and embedding links back to our site. In some cases we're very limited to what we can do with our bank links (i.e. just a company url), and in other cases we are free to place multiple anchor links within the content. In cases where we have no limitations, what are some best practices for implementing back links? I understand it's important to link to deep pages (not just our home page), have diverse anchor text, and make the anchor links relevant to the surrounding content. Are there other things I should be thinking about in order to maximize the SEO value of such placements? For example, is it better to have just one anchor link per placement? Or should I aim to embed multiple anchor links within a single placement? Any advice would be much appreciated! Sincerely, Debra

How fast is too fast when it comes to link building?
I'm getting ready to start a massive link building campaign. I plan on using a variety of anchor texts, getting links from a variety of sources, and only getting high quality links from relevant sites. My main concern is getting penalized for gaining too many links too quickly. Does anyone have any advice on how fast is too fast? Or how much is too much in a certain amount of time? Thanks!
