Disavow data for non-manual penalty
-
I'm working on cleaning link profile for a client. He has lots of crappy links pointing to his site. I tried to contact site owners so that they remove those links. No go for the most part. Since it's not a manual penalty, there's no need to specify when exactly I tried to contact those site owners, add emails to my disavow file, etc. It's my understanding that it's OK to just add domains to Google's disavow tool to submit because there was no manual action and it won't be checked by a human being. Would that be the right way to go?

If you're going through with link removal and building a disavow list, you might as well log all the outreach efforts and results - it really doesn't take that long. Just note when you sent emails, when they replied, what they said, and if the link was removed.
I'd upload that to Google Docs and include the link in the disavow file so on the off chance a real person looks into your site, they'll know you did the work.

You are making the right move for the future. You can always remove something from the disavow later and it will simply be treated as a dofollow link again once the disavow file has been re-crawled and the page re-indexed. So no big deal, that process is fast if its not a crappy deep link.
There will be a Penguin update in the next few weeks according to John Mueller at Google. So any disavow effort now will be fruitless for the next update but still worth doing for the futire as the latest data sample for it has already been taken as reported by Gary Illyes here http://www.thesempost.com/penguin-possibly-next-week-late-disavow-links-next-update/

that's the hardest penalty to recover from lol. You never know if you have done enough.
The last time I did it (i just got one to recover recently) I just flat out disavowed all those links. I made sure I got everything, even included yandex results.
I also made "for panda only" improvements.
It worked without talking or emailing anyone.

Well if you believe you have an algorithmic penalty then I'd say yes. Otherwise a proactive disavow is controversial but generally seems to be thought to be fine. Of course it can effect rankings so you need to vet the links carefully. It is also possible that although you don't have a manual penalty now, you might in the future. So it is a good practice to keep the records of the removal request emails in case you will have to respond to a manual penalty. There are some great tools out there to help like RMOOV which I have used successfully.
But I'd get on that disavow quickly if I were suffering from a Penguin thing since an update could come soon.
Also it's important to know if the links were paid for or the results of a previous "SEO" company. In that case I would definitely want to keep a record of the removal emails, just in case.

Should I disavow these links?
Hi all, I have a ski website that I am currently performing a toxic backlink audit on. I have noted that a lot of the links being flagged as toxic/spammy by the tool I am using seem to be the same/similar sites with different URLs. The sites are vaguely related to skiing (relating to helicopter travel options for travelling to ski resorts) but it is concerning me that there are so many of them and they are being flagged as so toxic.

Do you think it is worth disavowing these? Or contacting the owner to ask them to remove the link? I have included an example of some of the links below. https://www.cannes-helicopters.co.uk/index.php?menuopen=21&showcontent=5
https://nice-helicopter.co.uk/index.php?menuopen=21&showcontent=5
https://monaco-helicopter.co.uk/index.php?menuopen=21&showcontent=5 Slightly different site but same favicon icon:

Okay to disavow these?
http://www.dickhead.hotel-online.com http://www.french.hotel-online.com http://www.sampsucks.hotel-online.com http://www.ru.hotel-online.com edit** adding http://www.travelocity.hotel-online.com and http://www.costar.hotel-online.com Also have the normal http://www.hotel-online.com backlink which i'll probably keep. It seems you can post press releases about hospitality stuff on this site, and found some with abcdefg.hotel-online.com was wondering if I should disavow them? I tried a google search for these, and none of them have a bad spam score according to moz, but also SEMrush with a low toxic score. These came up doing an semrush backlink crawl, but not a moz backlink crawl. Would it be okay to disavow these?

To Disavow, or not?
Hi - I'm working on a site that has somewhere between 1200 and 1500 backlinks. Somewhere around 800 or 1000 of the links have one of four or five exact keyword phrases that this company paid a former seo to create links for. They ranked well for those phrases until last fall and then almost overnight they fell completely out of the first 50 SERP results. They did NOT receive a manual penalty. This leads me to two questions: 1. This sounds like they were hit by Penguin, rather than Panda. Do I have that right? 2. Is there any value in disavowing the 800 or so spammy links? Is there any danger in doing so? Thanks!

How long after disavow do you submit reconsideration?
Hello everyone! I recently submitted a disavow link file to Google for the left over links I was unable to remove after the course of 3 months. I know that I have to submit a reconsideration request, too, but I wasn't sure how long I should wait. Will it be obvious once the disavow file has processed or is there no notification of it being processed/completed? I haven't seen any posts on other individuals mentioning anything on this topic. Thank you for your time in sharing any experiences you may have had or heard about! Tamra

Looking for some help on disavow
I received a message from Google WMT on July 23rd about unnatural links to my site. And my ecommerce site suffered a big drop on sept 29th about 70% drop in organic traffic. My it guys have discovered that our past seo companies placed ton of bad links to our site. we have contacted lots of these companies for 3 weeks after we lost our traffic to remove their links. Some of them did remove them i believe and most of them did not even reply back. We have learned about the disavow tool in 3 rd week in Oct after that we have compiled the links and submitted the file on Oct 22nd and submitted a reconsideration on Oct 23rd. We got a reply back on Nov 12th saying that "Specifically, look for possibly artificial or unnatural links pointing to your site that could be intended to manipulate PageRank. Examples of unnatural linking could include buying links to pass PageRank or participating in link schemes." I did not participate in any link schemes or otherwise suggested practice here. So my question at this point is, is it possible that google' quality team did not see the file or did not take it in to consideration. How long would it take this tool to work? is there an example of this file where i can see how the format should be if any different than how we had it. my site is goldenageusa.com Thank you

How long to recover from manual spam penalty?
If anyone doesn't think that spam sabotage is possible, here is proof. In February we received a suspicious spammy link notice and penalty from Google. We did several things to try and fix the problem including getting old links from not very relevant sites removed and submitted, and were denied, reconsideration twice. On the advice of Billy here on the forum, we went through the bottom end of our inbound links through OSE and found about forty domains that had linked to us and were purely trash sites full of link spam. We filed another reconsideration request listing every one of these sites along with dates we tried to contact the site owner (almost always impossible) to delete links to our site and two weeks later we received a note back that the manual penalty had been lifted. My question now is, from your experience, how long does it take to notice a recovery from this penalty? This experience also has me concerned that site sabotage is actually pretty simple when you can plant garbage links from 40 sites, many of which are the same with different urls, and get someone penalized on Google.

Reciprocal linking penalty?
Hey, I have a site with a possible excessive reciprocal linking penalty. It has had a -50 penalty since October. I sent a reconsideration request in December but there has been no change. I actually dumped all the recip links from my site back in 2009, but there were thousands of them - it really was an excessive campaign that went on for years. Would it be worth it to try and have the recip links removed, like what people do with a paid links penalty? I can get the email addresses of most of these sites but it will be a huge undertaking. I haven't done anything else wrong with this site, but it does have a content problem that I've been working on. It was hit by the very first round of Panda, but I was working that out up until the penalty in October. What would you do?

Non www indexed, will this effect rankings?
Hi, I have a domain which has the non www domain indexed. I did start link building using the www in the URL, will this not work as well? So, domain indexed is footballboots.co.uk (fictitious) I start building backlinks using www.footballboots.co.uk. Should I have started building backlinks using footballboots.co.uk for this to work better? Cheers
