Google Page Speed Score 91, But 5-8 Seconds to Download URL
-
Greetings MOZ Community:
In Google Analytics under "Site Speed" under "Behavior" our home page has a page speed rank of 91 which I assume is pretty fast. However the "Average Page Load Time" is varies between 5 and 8 seconds, which seems very slow. My developers have made major efforts to optimize the home page URL (www.nyc-officespace-leader.com) for speed. The page has a carousel which I assume may be slowing it down. Is the download speed of this page detrimental to SEO? Or is the favorable Page Speed Score good enough.
I am particularly concerned because the most competitive phrases are ranked on the home page. As it stands I am having a lot of difficulty ranking in the top ten for these pages. My concern is that the slow download speed of the home page could be holding back ranking of these terms. If necessary I can always redesign the home page and remove the carousel or reduce the number of listings in the carousel to speed it up.
Is this worth investing effort in or is the speed good enough?
Thanks, Alan

Hi,
What is the % of mobile visits - could you check the page speed within Analytics with segment 'Mobile'?
I prefer to use webpagetest.org rather than pingdom - because it seems to give more realistic results (pingdom always seems to load faster than webpagetest).
On your desktop version everything seems ok - site loaded in 2.3 sec - images are very heavy though: http://www.webpagetest.org/result/150103_1M_SYT/
Different story on mobile: http://www.webpagetest.org/result/150103_CT_T0H/ - initial page load = 14sec - mainly because of the images (900K).
I would check if these images could be compressed - or remove the slider and replace it by 1 image.
rgds,
Dirk

Good Idea!!
Speed is the following:
Internet Explorer: 1.04
Safari: 2.57
Amazon Silk: 3.35
Firefox: 4.61About 80% of the traffic is for I.E. , Safari and Amazon.
It seems speed is pretty good for most pages. However the home page load time is particularly slow. Maybe it has something to do with the carousel containing listings. But at the same time the Page Speed Score is 91 for the home page. So I don't know if this is detrimental for ranking.
Thanks, Alan

Can you go to Google Analytics and go to Behavior > Site Speed > Overview and see if there is any particular browser that is loading really slow and throwing off the data? It could be that the mobile version is not well optimized and this makes up a lot of your traffic, or that cell service is slow in the market, or there may be some browser specific issues.

Thanks.
Yes, test like Pingdom show that the data downloads quickly. However Google show an average page load time of 5-8 seconds for the home page. So I don't know if from Google's perspective the page is considered fast or slow. As a result I don't know whether it is worth investing resources to improve speed. The home page is of particular concern because it ranks for competitive keywords.
Maybe displaying listings on the home page carousel is a bad idea as may increase page load time.

I just ran a test and got a load time of less than a second for your site. Now this may be without much server load, but it looks like you already use caching and I don't see anything too out of the ordinary. It may be that your server slows when it gets loaded down. Maybe look into caching pages into ram or an ssd on the server side, but I don't think there is much more on the website side you can do to help.

Google Displaying Wrong Homepage URL
Hi Everyone, Google is displaying www.domain.com instead of domain.com. We have our preferred URL set up as domain.com, and even redirect www.domain.com to domain.com, but in the search results it is showing www.domain.com. Problem is we are seeing referral data from www.domain.com and in Google it says "No information is available for this page." Anyone seen a way to resolve this?

What is Google supposed to return when you submit an image URL into Fetch as Google? Is a few lines of readable text followed by lots of unreadable text normal?
I am seeing something like this (Is this normal?): HTTP/1.1 200 OK

Google Rich Snippets in E-commerce Category Pages
Hello Best Practice for rich snippets / structured data in ecommerce category pages? I put structured markup in the category pages and it seems to have negatively impacted SEO. Webmaster tools is showing about 2.5:1 products to pages ratio. Should I be putting structured data in category Pages at all? Thanks for your time 🙂

Do I need to re-index the page after editing URL?
Hi, I had to edit some of the URLs. But, google is still showing my old URL in search results for certain keywords, which ofc get 404. By crawling with ScremingFrog it gets me 301 'page not found' and still giving old URLs. Why is that? And do I need to re-index pages with new URLs? Is 'fetch as Google' enough to do that or any other advice? Thanks a lot, hope the topic will help to someone else too. Dusan

Google Disavow wrong Sample URLs
Sometime last year we were penalized for unnatural links by Google. We followed a couple of good posts on MOZ on how to go about correcting all of this (Excel Showing work, Google Docs, Ahrefs, semrush, etc...) and submitted a reconsideration request as well as a list of urls using Disavow Tool. So today, about 20 days later, we get a reply from Google stating that we still have some links that are outside their quality guidelines with 3 examples. Problem is, none of the 3 examples they listed have our website on them. I even did a View Source and checked all our inbound link reports for these websites. All of the 3 examples are Lawyer / Legal Advise websites and ours has nothing to do with this. Any ideas on how to reply and ask them to double check? Maybe they mixed up with another account they were working on at the same time.

How can I see all the pages google has indexed for my site?
Hi mozers, In WMT google says total indexed pages = 5080. If I do a site:domain.com commard it says 6080 results. But I've only got 2000 pages in my site that should be indexed. So I would like to see all the pages they have indexed so I can consider noindexing them or 404ing them. Many thanks, Julian.

URL Parameters Duplicate Page Title
Thanks in advance, I'm getting duplicate page titles because seomoz keeps crawling through my url parameters. I added forcefiltersupdate to the URL parameters in webmaster tools but it has not seemed to have an effect. Below is an example of the duplicate content issue that I am having. http://qlineshop.com/OC/index.php?route=product/category&path=59_62&forcefiltersupdate=true&checkedfilters[]=a.13.13.387baf0199e7c9cc944fae94e96448fa Any thoughts? Removed Internal Rel=NoFollows from power internal page - how long till reflected in Google?
I just started with a client, who has an internal page (not the homepage) that gets about 70% of all total links to the site and ranks #1 for a highly competitive keyword. For some reason, the first set of links, including the first anchor text link to the homepage are nofollowed. I removed the nofollows yesterday. Today, The internal page has already been reindexed in Google showing the followed anchor text link to the homepage Should I expect a jump in link juice pointing to my homepage immediately with a corresponding rankings boost? Homepage is #8 for target term. I hope this makes sense. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
