Indexed Link Removal request in GWT, good idea?
-
Hello,
I used a plugin to no-index a lot of pages on my website, and its been couple months and they never disappeared from serps, so i used the google webmaster tool "remove urls" to ask google to remove them. Is that a good idea? Or does it look bad in googles eyes? any thoughts would help a lot.
Thanks

Hello Vlad,
You are using the tool correctly - as Mat said, this is what the tool is for.
There seems to be something of a consensus that removing an entire link profile (due to extended poor linking processes) is a red flag and might be negatively assessed. That being said, if you are removing a couple bad pages from your profile in order to provide a better experience (or as a response to negative SEO), this is in line with "best practices" and will not be penalized. If you have already gone to the trouble of nofollow-ing them, you should also have them removed as they might hurt you in the future if they are not addressed.
Of course, you could stick with the nofollow for now and see if it impacts your rankings negatively - if so, move to the removal. If not, there's no risk in doing nothing.
Cheers!
Rob

If you have set them up for removal and no longer want them in the index then go for it. That is what the tool is for.
There was some suggestion from John Mueller some time ago that lots of removals could be seen as an issue, but it seems that is an exception.

Meta tags - removal
A couple of months ago, I did something that has caused me great angst. My website unique visitors was on a steady growth path for about 3 years. I swapped out my SEO plugin, from all-in-one, to Yoast. I then removed all of my meta tags. My site has about 2000 unique posts. After doing that my unique visitors has been on a steady decline of me loosing traffic at a rate of 5 to 10% of my visits. Any thoughts on the best remediation plan I should use. I put back in the meta tags, but wasn't sure of the SEO plugin switch caused the issue.

Removing old URLs from Google
We rebuilt a site about a year ago on a new platform however Google is still indexing URL's from the old site that we have no control over. We had hoped that time would have 'cleaned' these out but they are still being flagged in HTML improvements in GWT. Is there anything we can do to effect these 'external' dropping out of the indexing given that they are still being picked up after a year.

Google Index Report
Hi, I have just checked my google webmaster tools account and viewed the index status of my website and it produced the attached graph, which show quite a big spike in indexing during July and August 2012. Does this look normal or does it reveal anything peculiar? We did have a new website launched in June 2012 and I re-submitted the sites URL's to google as part of the re-launch and so I am unsure if this may account for the spike. Any advice appreciated. On the seomoz on page report i get a cannibalize error. This is due to a link being full path. When i change the link to relative path then there is no Cannibalize error. Should i change the internal links of the site to relative path? I would appreciate your help.
