Linking Root Domains www and non-www
-
I just ran our site through Open Site Explorer. If I run the non-www version I get 30 root domains, if I run www I get 177. Is it wise to try and contact those sites using the non-www version and ask them to update the links to www version? Will that make much of a difference?
-
Thanks. Our domain has been set to www since it launched last year in GWT. That is fine and working as it should. Hopefully some of these guys will be willing to change to add the www.

Definitely try to get them to point to the www version. You never know...one of those links could be a heavy-weight. It's just good practice to pick one and stick to it.

If you have a 301 redirect in place pointing the non-www to the www (or vice versa) you won't be losing link value from either link. You should also put both versions in Goggle Webmaster Tools and set your preferred domain there to further cement which one is the defacto URL. See: http://moz.com/learn/seo/canonicalization
Contacting people linking to you can be good in and of itself if as that can further the relationship. They might have ideas for more content they'd like to see on your site, or insights into what they like.

Link Pharming
My company has been using an SEO company for a while and have built up our pagerank to a 6. However, we have noticed that they're involved in link pharming - they're buildng extra websites and linking to our site on them. We are not happy with this as we know it will only be a matter of time before Penguin hits us. The contract with the SEO company is coming up for renewal soon and we're thinking of cancelling it. However, we are not sure if the company will delete all our backlinks, which will probably decrease our PageRank too. Has anyone here ever had a similar experience? What did the SEO company do when you cancelled the contract? Does anyone here work for an SEO company and what do you do when someone cancels your service?

Is it a reciprocal Link ?
Hi, I found a great website and tought its content would be extremely interesting for our clients. I wrote about it on my blog (which has an URL with our website URL in it) , Facebook Page and even in Twitter. Meanwhile, I contacted them and offered to write an article about an interesting subject for them. They accepted and liked it so much that they decided to put 2 links for us on two of their pages. My questions are : Will this be a reciprocal link for Google? Did I make a mistake talking about them on my blog ? Did I «devaluate» the links they gave us?

301 Redirect Domains with old links
I came across a nice discovery of about 20 old domain names that each have many root domains and a bit of DA. I want to know the best way to utilize them without any type of penalty. Currently, (as of an hour ago) I am 301 redirecting all of them to the most relative pages on a single domain. Will i get the majority of the link juice from the domains? I'm excited to see what will happen here. Thanks in advance, Daniel

Domain position on site:domain.com search
Hi, After the last week Google algotithm update, my web site index appears on 4th position when I search for site:www.domain.com If I make a simple search for domain or domain.com it ranks on first position. Is this a sign of a penalty ? What would be the cause ? Thanks
