Redirecting back to initial redirect.
-
Hello,
I have an example site A.com that is currently being redirected to site B.com. My client is having issues with B.com and finding that there is more equity in site A.com. The client now wants us to have A.com as the site.
What is the best way to proceed with implementing A.com without hurting search in the long run, since A.com was initially a 301 redirect to B.com.
-
How should I proceed in this redirection back to A.com
-
What pitfalls should I look out for that could affect SEO and how should I input safegaurds to protect myself?
I appreciate the support

If you redirect site b to site a now, you will be passing along the negative effects of the penalties. Site a no longer exists in the search world if your redirect is that old. The best thing to do would be to fix the penalties, disavow bad links and submit a reconsideration request. Redirecting site b to site a would mean starting all over, and you would still have to deal with the penalties or site a won't rank at all. I suppose you could just kill site b, and make site a live again. You would still be starting over with site a, either way.

This redirect has been in place for some time now (at least two years). The reason why we want to now redirect site B to site A is that the previous SEO had done some shady practices to site B and google penalized us for it, for example we currently had and have a large number of inbound and outbound links to site B that are spammy, to the point where it knocked us off the first page.
We have already disallowed most of the inbound links and severed the outbound. But the damage is already done, and we feel it would take very long to get back on googles good side, just due to the work this previous SEO did.
So since we have Site A and it has clean equity, we would like to redirect to it from site B as to not loose equity from the content site B built; The thought being to disassociate with the penalization of B, or at least lessen its blow and giving us a clean slate.
Thoughts?
Thank you for your response btw

You will first need to remove the 301 redirect to site b, then add a redirect from b to a. If you don't remove the first redirect you will create a redirect loop and neither page will be visible.
How long has site b been up? I would say that making a change now is going to be confusing. If this change was done recently, within the last 3 months, you need more time to determine the benefits of site b. There is no overnight result, but the change was made initially for a reason right?
Depending on how long the 301 redirects have been in place, you could have trouble getting site a to rank again. The 301 redirects would have removed Site As URLs from the index, meaning you would be starting over, again. Aside from that, it will probably be very confusing for returning customers. They have already seen a change once, now they are going to have to make another adjustment. Those things would be my first two concerns.

Rel=canonical "redirects" to double links
Our devs have set up rel=canonical on our website. First they used relative links href="/dir1/dir2/dir3" for the page http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/?detail1=1?detail2=2 meaning that it will redirect to http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3, but no luck, the MOZ dashboard showed the tag value to be http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/dir1/dir2/dir3, then we have decided to rewrite the code, and now the canonical to http://wwwmysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/?detail1=1?detail2=2 looks like href="http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/" but the tag on MOZ looks like http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3. So what is the problem? I really got a problem or MOZ does? The code on website looks exactly like href="http://www.aaa.com/en/bbb/ccc/vvv/nnn/" rel="canonical" /> for the page http://www.aaa.com/en/bbb/ccc/vvv/nnn/

A 301 redirect to a page with a rel canonical to a page with a 301 question...
MOZ registers thousands of DC and Duplicate titles on a Drupal site which has a little strange setup. Example: www.1234.com/en-us 301 redirects to www.realsite.com/en-us which has a rel canonical to www.1234.com which 301 redirects to www.realsite.com. If you're still with me I thank you.

My question is since MOZ registers errors, if indeed the rel canonical isn't recognized due to a 301 redirect?0 -
Getting Redirect Loop and Oauth Error When Adding Facebook Page
Hi all, I keep getting the following error when trying to add my Facebook page. It worked fine in the past and has suddenly stopped working: The webpage at https://graph.facebook.com/oauth/authorize?client_id=142287725855094&redirect_uri=http%3A%2F%2Fpro.seomoz.org%2Fcampaigns%2F173488%2Fsocial%2Fcreate%2Ffacebook%2F127833296954.html&scope=read_stream%2Cuser_videos%2Cuser_photos%2Cuser_photo_video_tags%2Cmanage_pages%2Cread_insights has resulted in too many redirects. Clearing your cookies for this site or allowing third-party cookies may fix the problem. If not, it is possibly a server configuration issue and not a problem with your computer. I've tried clearing cache and deleting cookies. Any other ideas I would try? Thanks!

301 redirect question from a newb
So, I've been blogging for almost 3 years now. I've always used wordpress, but recently changed from a ProPhoto theme to a Woo Theme (Editorial...don't know if that matters). I've signed up for the SEOmoz website and HOLY CROW I have problems with my website out the wazoo. I am tackling issues one at a time and one of my issues seems to be 301 redirects. If you'd like to see a screen shot of the crawl diagnostics, check it out the attachment. If you'd like screen shots of anything else, just let me know. I'm not sure I'm reading the chart right, but it seems to say that all of my redirecting problems are because my links are redirecting from an http://www..... to a http://http://www... I've been in my wordpress blog post back end and can't seem to figure out how they A. Got like this. and B how to fix it. If I'm reading the chart wrong...definitely let me know. Thank you guys so much in advance! Screen%20Shot%202012-01-01%20at%202.28.19%20PM.png

Why is my site showing a redirect that doesn't exist?
I have two sites. www.plasticandfoampackaging.com www.flyfitters.com Previously I had flyfitters 301 redirecting to plasticandfoampackaging. I stopped that about a month ago. I moved the nameservers and stopped the redirect. I am a novice but it seems to be working perfectly. However, SEOMOZ is showing that the redirect still exists. Does the site need to be recrawled or do I need to update the info somewhere? Please advise. Thanks Patrick

Can I see backlinks to a specific URL, not including redirects?
Does SEOMoz have a tool that allows me to see backlinks to a specific URL sans redirected URLs? So, URL is www.website.com/search. www.website.com redirects to www.website.com/search and I want to see how many people have linked to the /search, the resulting URL. Thanks for any help! Erin
