High Conversion. Real or Inflated?
-
Hi,
We recently redesigned our website, cardcash.com. Since we launched we are seeing a huge spike in the e-commerce conversion rate. We went up 300% - from a 4% conversion rate to a 16% conversion rate!!
The only thing that changed is our design. We think it's awesome and all but is it even possible?
Is something wrong with our analytics code or are we incredibly lucky?
-
I hope you know my response wasn't meant to be critical, more of just an observation on how there are so many variables its always hard to tell!
I agree with Jeremy, just like with Keyword ranking things like this are going to take a little time to settle in, maybe there was a big event that happened, or a black swan event that nobody could account for which increased you so 16%. Maybe there was some new optimization that took place, maybe the redesign made it 300% easier for people to convert, it will take some time to find out!
-
It's definitely possible. But you could have just had a lucky day or two. If the conversion rate remains at 16% for, say a month, then your web designer deserves a bonus!

Hi,
Thanks for pointing out that my question is unclear. I edited the question so it should be more obvious that I am referring to the e-commerce conversion rate. Nothing changed in what we are tracking, the only change is in the design of the site.
Our analytics account excludes our developers and employees IP addresses.
-
Everything remained exactly the same. I'm referring the e-commerce conversion rate which is only tracking people who got to our confirmation page.
-
Its impossible to answer that with the information given in my opinion.
- What goals have you set up in Google Analytics?
- What are you considering a conversion?
- Where does the online conversion of 300% stop and the overall conversion of 16% begin?
- Is the page up 300% on conversions because there is only one page that is actually tracking the conversion rate?
- Do you have an "abandoned cart" set up where you can see if and where people are leaving?
I also always take human behavior into account. So for example, we have an Insurance Verification lead form on our website. Which, according to GA is incredible effective, but what I found out was that our Admissions staff would be on the phone with a potential client, go to the website and enter the clients insurance information through our own website.
Now when I look at the data I have to take into account that this "conversion" was actually not an organic conversion. Although it was a conversion, in order to test the efficacy of my form, I have to remove any results entered by our own staff.
Generally a redesign makes traffic stumble a little, and when things look too good to be true they generally are, but hey, who knows! Maybe you guys hit the J A C K P O T!
Hope this help!

did you make any changes to your analytics strategy?
did you add any new conversions that you were not previously tracking, such as a view of a key page, newsletter sign ups, etc? it is important to stay consistent when evaluating conversions, i.e. measure your sales Thank You page before and after the site optimization.

Analytics conversion tracking?
Hi One of our clients has a hotel chain currently which currently uses an online booking system which is from a third party. We are keen to set up conversion tracking to track the number of bookings made however are we able to do this if the URL destination is not on the clients website? Or will it be a case of just tracking the number of people who click the link to go to the third party payment site? Kind Regards

Irrelevant page with high bounce rate
I have a page on my site, www.waikoloavacationrentals.com/kolea-rentals/floor-plans, that gets me roughly 17% of my traffic. That being said it is not really relevant traffic because it comes from the search term "floor plans", which really has nothing to do with Hawaii vacation rentals, which is what I do. My question is does Google know how to figure that out when they are looking at my stats or is there a way to let google know that that page probably should not show up for that search phrase? On the positive, they are nice floor plans and if someone is searching for ideas for floor plans and see one of them in google images then it probably could help them, but it really is not relevant to my business. It has a 80% bounce rate, but does have an average time on page of 1.5 minutes, which is a fair amount for what is there.

False Conversion Data in GA
Hi all, I have a problem with Conversion Tracking in Google Analytics. Our contact form conversion completes when the user hits the Thank You page. Yesterday we had an increase in conversions that didn't correlate to form submission emails. It appears that one person filled out our form, then returned (hit the back button?) to the Thank You page another 8 times as there were 8 entrances to the Thank You page and it's currently no indexed. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? Or should I just note in Analytics that the Conversion data is wrong for that day and note how many? Thanks!

Why do we temporarily rank for highly competitive words after writing a related blog post?
I write for a blog that Google probably "likes" at this point because we update so frequently and get a decent amount of traffic. Sometimes this happens and it has always been puzzling to me: Let's use an example. Say I write a blog called "How to eat spaghetti." For the next few days, we will get a ton of traffic for people who type "spaghetti." But when I check us on rank trackers we are nowhere to be found for that term. What is happening here? Sometimes the traffic will all be international and located in some random city in Africa or something. Any thoughts? Super confused by this. We have gotten lots of traffic for extremely competitive words because of this, but it only lasts a couple days.

High bounce rate from Google Shopping
Hi Mozzers, I'm carrying out some analysis on our eCommerce site and the bounce rate from Google Shopping is well above the site average at 60%. Our shopping feed is submitted to Google every morning so we know that images and prices are up-to-date which would obviously cause a high bounce rate. Any ideas on what might cause this? Is it normal for Google Shopping to produce a high bounce rate? Cheers guys!
