I think that Google incorrectly flagged my href lang return tags as missing. What do I do?
-
Hi there SEOs and other respected online marketing enthusiasts!
Since a short while Google Webmaster Tools is flagging my href lang return tags as missing. However, these tags are available in the html and there should be no issue whatsoever. I often see other bogus flags raised by Google but this one is bothering us in particular. This is the code that we use for all our 18 languages:
All pages link to all other languages variables.
Is there something I'm missing? Or is it just an error on Google's site - and if so, how do I flag it as fixed?
href lang no return tag incorrectly error in webmaster tools

Did it solve the issue?

What I would try out, is including a self reference also.
So next to your hreflang there would appear a new hreflang, such as:
When we have implemented hreflang, we have also used a self reference, and I do not have any issues there.
I hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply, this is an example url:
This is the holidaycars newyork page for the german language.
That tool is great, but i'm not sure how this occurs: the "Hreflang attributes don't match ( != de)"

Hi,
Try out your page with Flang tool. Maybe it will give a better insight what you are missing out.
We cannot do more without a link that we can inspect
BTW: common mistake, do you have a self reference? It is needed in order to hreflang to work well.

Does anyone know if it is possible/recommended/not recommended to use href lang in image or video XML sitemaps? This had not crossed my mind until recently, but a client asked me this question and I couldn't find any information on this topic.

After reading of Google's so called "over-optimization" penalty, is there a penalty for changing title tags too frequently?
In other words, does title tag change frequency hurt SEO ? After changing my title tags, I have noticed a steep decline in impressions, but an increase in CTR and rankings. I'd like to once again change the title tags to try and regain impressions. Is there any penalty for changing title tags too often? From SEO forums online, there seems to be a bit of confusion on this subject...

Dropped Out of Google and Bing
I am helping with a site that at one time I had on page 1 for Google/Bing. Site started to slip in rankings, then someone else did a makeover of the store and botched things by renaming pages, having errors in pages (multiple head/body), mismatch page names from sitemap, etc. Site slipped to page 4/5. I righted things, fixed duplication using canonicalization, made some other changes. Now site is gone completely from Google/Bing for desired keyword. No penalties. Site still shows if do search on domain name. Site is www.plussizeplum.com (plus size lingerie, sorry), keyword target is plus size lingerie. Anyone have any clues, tips, etc on why we fell off the face of the earth? Page Authority/Domain Authority are both comparable to most of the page 1/2 sites for same thing. Thanks for any advice.

Ranking Factors for Google
Yesterday a blog post appeared on SEOMOZ titled 'A Tale Of Two Studies' - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/a-tale-of-two-studies-google-vs-bing-clickthrough-rate It suggested some of the ranking factors Google and Bing take into account when ranking. A few of them I want to talk about: Social Signals, Age of Domain and H1 HTML Tag So I thought age of domain and H1 both had some weight in Google? I guess not! And social signals, now I know it gives some weight but its right up there in the list for both SE's, so should getting likes, tweets, plus1's now be part of my everyday link building? Hello, It's been easy for me to jump in .com - English only results. But, regional google is making me problems. How to position there? What are the top 3 key elements for ranking locally that don't matter much internationally? Thanks!
