URL Structure for Blog
-
Hi guys,
Hope you are all doing well today.
I have a questions with regards to our blog URL structure.
The URL for the blog is /blog - however when you click on a blog post the "/blog" disappears completely and is replaced by the title of the post. So it is ".com/title-of-post" for example.
Would it be better to keep the blog subdomain in the URL so it is ".com/blog/title-of-article"
Any insight would be appreciated. My thoughts are that surely the second option above is ideal?
Thanks
Tom

Hi Tom,
I guess if you used a /blog sub-folder, any links to individual posts will pass juice down to the main /blog landing page. If you go for the /blog-name URL, juice will be spread across the whole domain.

Hi Lewis,
That's is what I am thinking too. However, I am merely interested in this in terms of an effect on SEO.
Cheers

Hi Tom,
I've always used /blog/blog-name as the URL structure for any blog. I feel this makes it clear to Google that these posts belong to a blog and are not a stand-alone, separate page on your site. However, I'm not sure it would have a massive SEO effect if you kept the /blog-name structure.
Cheers,
Lewis

Featured Snippet - URL change?
Hi all - we have a blog post that has ranked as a featured snippet. We are doing some cleanup on our back-end opening up a few other blog post categories which would change the URL address by one word. I'm wondering if anyone knows how this would effect the ranking of the featured snippet if we were to change this address even if we did a redirect?

Blog Anchor Text SEO Query
Apologies if the following is a basic question but I am just starting out with SEO and I have seen this quite a lot recently on sites I have been on. My question is if you have a self hosted blog e.g. blog.site.com or site.com/blog and you use keyword anchor text in your blog post does that bring SEO benefits in itself or does the blog post have to be shared/commented by readers to have an effect? I have seen/heard of many sites spending a lot of money getting copy done or spending their own time and resources starting a blog but the blogs remain unshared or comment-less. I am starting my own blog to go with my social media and website so I wanted to establish the basics. Thanks in advance guys.

Blog SEO Strategy
The current SEO strategy for my company blog is to include a percentage of short tail keywords in each blog post, and not to link to the main site because they are concerned with diluting the blog. I would like to change the strategy and instead use the blog to promote long tail keywords by having each entry focus on around a different long tail keyword. I would also like to use the short-tail keywords for internal linking to strengthen our important pages with keyword rich anchor text (no more than 1 link per 100 words). I would love the advice of the SEOMoz community about which strategy is more effective (or if there is something else entirely we should be doing). Thanks!

Simple question: How many words optimal for blog posts
Hello, We're adding a blog to one of our sites. How many words should be in a blog post for it to be optimal for the search engines? If it varies from industry to industry, please give a couple of examples. We were going to do 500 words but that seems a bit long. Thanks!

Old articles in a blog
Hi, I would like to know your opinion about old article obsolete in a blog. Do you think it's preferable to totally delete them from Wordpress CMS? Considering the fact that Panda update measures "Bouncing Rate", "Time on site", and all that? Thanks for your opinion and advice! (Sorry if my english is not perfect, 2nd language 😉 )

Are you sure moving a wordpress blog to a main website is a good idea?
Sorry to ask this question again but I left out some background info...... My blog sits at www.gardenbeet.wordpress.com I have been using the blog as my main linking page for my main website at www.gardenbeet.com - the blog links to relevant sites in both blog articles and on the side of the blog. The blog links to industry websites that in turn link to my main website at www.gardenbeet.com. If I was to move the wordpress blog to my own domain will my mainwebsite loose its strength. Will all those blog links pour my link juice out of my website? Will the current three way links become two way links and thereby lesson their linking importance? Is the previous recommendation (combine the blog and the main website) still the best course of action? Should I keep the two sites or perhaps close entries on the existing blog and start another on my own domain? thanks for your time AGAIN
