Metrics to measure the quality of content?
-
When trying to decide what is low quality content, page views & bounce rate are the main indicators I use for pages already on site.
But, how do you measure the quality of content that you are trying to produce? Is it entirely subjective?

Have you read Google's blog post about high-quality content and sites? http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2011/05/more-guidance-on-building-high-quality.html

High quality content....
-
is on a subject matter that attracts clicks.
-
holds visitors for the reading time of the article.
-
looks great, it has exciting graphics and is well formatted.
-
is rich - it is supported by video, numerous large images, data, references, links to related content or other unique resources beyond text.
-
has perfect grammar, spelling, capitalization.
-
is one of the best - if not the best - presentations on the web for its topic.
-
-
Usually the way I go about this is checking to see if the content is duplicate or not. And then check to see if the content is long enough.
Pages with low content and duplicate content are starting to get dinged pretty hard by the new Panda update. So I would check out the length of the content and whether its duplicate or not.

How long should a quality blog post be?
How long should a "quality" blog post be? General advice seems to be that a 300 word post just won't cut it, but advice on the optimum length is vague. I appreciate that all posts are different but is there a rule of thumb, is 1000 words good and 1500 too long...or should they are all aim to be 2000 words? Also with regards to pictures in blogs, can they just be taken from the web or are there sites that I should be using to source the pictures? Thanks

With the structure of WordPress when multiple tags are selected, SEOMoz reports show each URL/tag as duplicated content? What to do?
wordpress.com/blogpost/tag/word1 wordpress.com/blogpost/tag/word 2 etc. Same page, but WP generates multiple URLs for each tag. in reports, this shows as duplicate content. Is it something to worry about? If yes, what is the best fix?

Duplicate Page Content & Rel-Canonicals
The SEO Moz duplicate page content tool lists the following URL's as having duplicate content: http://www.savvyboater.com/1988-newer-8-tooth-15-hp-honda-outboard-props.aspx http://www.savvyboater.com/1988-newer-8-tooth-15-hp-honda-outboard-props.aspx?sort=PriceAsc&pi=2 The second URL is the price sorter/second page of the category and contains the following rel-canonical: | http://www.savvyboater.com/1988-newer-8-tooth-15-hp-honda-outboard-props.aspx"> Are we using the rel-canonical correctly in this case? If so, why does it continue to show up as duplicate content in our SEO Moz report? There are over 1,000 URLS listed in the report with the exact same issue. |
