Hhreflang been setup correctly?
-
Hi guys,
We recently setup US hreflang tags across a site. According to Deep Crawl it seems the tags are working.
http://s3.postimg.org/5b8rzq9r6/screenshot_1494.jpg
However when i test it out with http://flang.dejanseo.com.au/
I seem to be getting no language, region and under notes it saids "Reciprocal not found" (does anyone know what this means?)

Any ideas?
Cheers

Hi Chris,
You have 2 issues here:
1. It doesn't make sense to put the us version on http://www.camilla.com.au/us/ - .com.au is an Australian domain extension and therefore geo targeted by default to Australia. If you want to have a us version you'll have to put it on a generic domain extension (.com / .net / .org / etc geo targeted in search console to the us) or use the .us extension
2. Hreflang is on page level - not on domain level - on all pages of your site you put the hreflang pointing to the "us homepage". What you should do is for each page on your site (both us & au version) you will have to put at least two hreflang tags:
Example http://www.camilla.com.au/collection/my-wandering-heart-resort-15 & http://www.camilla.com.au/us/collection/my-wandering-heart-resort-15
On both pages put:
<link rel="alternate" href="http: www.camilla.com.au="" collection="" my-wandering-heart-resort-15" hreflang="en-au"></link rel="alternate" href="http:>
If you want to have one version as default - then also add
(if it's the us version you want as default - check http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.be/2013/04/x-default-hreflang-for-international-pages.html)
The message "reciprocal not found" indicates that you only put the hreflang to the us version - and that on the us version there is no hreflang link to the au version.
You can scan all the content on Moz on hreflang - but useful links are:
https://mza.seotoolninja.com/blog/hreflang-behaviour-insights http://www.aleydasolis.com/en/international-seo-tools/hreflang-tags-generator/ https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/189077?hl=enDirk

Yes, there is error. I used tool described here:
https://mza.seotoolninja.com/blog/open-source-library-tool-check-hreflang
And here is result:
http://hreflang.ninja/check/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.camilla.com.au%2Fus%2Fshop%2Fjust-in.htmlBut alternate page there:
http://www.camilla.com.au/us/
Doesn't link back /us/shop/just-in.htmlAnd this is first problem. Second problem is that /us/ page doesn't like en_us. I'm not sure why? And third is missing x-default hreflang.
In case of doubt please check both examples:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.earth&hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.earth
and read everything in Moz about hreflang.

Crediting a second website when I have 2 setup depending on location
Hello Moz Community! I'm a bit stuck with this one and have read a few varying answers! Basically I have an eCommerce website on a .com domain name selling to the UK and Europe currently. I have recently created a very similar selling the same products but solely to the US with a .US domain name. What is the best practice with this, will the 2 separate sites be okay left as they are, or do I need to credit the UK site from the US site as they are incredibly similar? The sites are: www.rhinox-group.com www.rhinox-group.us Thanks in advance!

Least expensive, correctly done way to hire product descriptions done.
Hello, WHAT WE NEED NOW: We need 300 product descriptions done. We have reached the point where we're hiring this done. How would you recommend we go about this. 200 products will be rewriting the supplier's product descriptions (one sentence each) and filling out a quicktable. There's just nothing to do there, no information anywhere. About 100 products will be where the person writing the description and filling out the table will have to google the product's manufacturer and rewrite the information off of that website in an intelligible, interesting, paragraph that is informative. Would you recommend we hire someone local to come work in our office that specializes in our niche, or are there any GOOD services out there for our case, even if it's just for the first 200. OUR FUTURE PLANS: We'll guess at the top few products and do some 10X work ourselves. No hiring needed there. Once we know the top 50 products we will do some more deep hiring for 10X product descriptions, but that can wait. Thanks.

Have I set up my structured data correctly, the testing tool suggests not?
Hi, I've recently marked up some Events for a client in hope that they'll appear as rich snippets in ther SERPS. I have access to their Google Search Console so used the Data Highlighter facility to mark them up, rather than the Raven plugin available for WordPress sites like this. I completed this on 10th July and the snippets are yet to appear - I understand that this can take time and there are no guarantees - but as a novice it would be reassuring if someone can advise that I have done this correctly. We did incidentally resubmit a sitemap after completing this task, but I'm not sure if that makes any difference. I've read that it's the structured data testing tool that I need to use to test my markup, but when I input the urls below, the tool doesn't tell me a lot, which either suggests I've marked it up incorrectly, or don't know how to read it! http://www.ad-esse.com/events/19th-august-2015-reducing-costs-changing-culture-improving-services/

Correct Schema Markup
Hello, I've been having some markup issues and need some help. I researched what would be the best Business type and used that markup on the website. But when I check it in the testing tool I get this http://screencast.com/t/vtlfn2MNPKf It doesn't recognize the object type. Could this be an error with my website or the markup its self? Please advise Thanks

Canonical code set up correctly?
Please let me know if this makes sense. I have a very limited knowledge of technical SEO but I am almost positive that my web developer did something wrong. I have a wordpress blog and he did add canonical code to some of the pages. However he directs the site to the same URL! Does this mean that the canonical code is setup incorrectly and actually harming my SEO performance. Also if I have one webpage with just the first paragraph of a blog post I wrote and a completely seperate page for the blog post itself, could this be considered duplicate content? Thanks!!

Robots.txt: how to exclude sub-directories correctly?
Hello here, I am trying to figure out the correct way to tell SEs to crawls this: http://www.mysite.com/directory/ But not this: http://www.mysite.com/directory/sub-directory/ or this: http://www.mysite.com/directory/sub-directory2/sub-directory/... But with the fact I have thousands of sub-directories with almost infinite combinations, I can't put the following definitions in a manageable way: disallow: /directory/sub-directory/ disallow: /directory/sub-directory2/ disallow: /directory/sub-directory/sub-directory/ disallow: /directory/sub-directory2/subdirectory/ etc... I would end up having thousands of definitions to disallow all the possible sub-directory combinations. So, is the following way a correct, better and shorter way to define what I want above: allow: /directory/$ disallow: /directory/* Would the above work? Any thoughts are very welcome! Thank you in advance. Best, Fab.

Correct strategy for long-tail keywords?
Hi, We are selling log houses on our website. Every log house is listed as a "product", and this "product" consists of many separate parts, that are technically also products. For example a log house product consists of doors, windows, roof - and all these parts are technically also products, having their own content pages. The question is - Should we let google index these detail pages, or should we list them as noindex? These pages have no content, only the headline, which are great for long-tail SEO. We are probably the only manufacturer in the world who has a separate page for "log house wood beam 400x400mm". But otherwise these pages are empty. My question is - what should we do? Should we let google index them all (we have over 3600 of them) and maybe try to insert an automatic FAQ section to every one of them to put more content on the page? Or will 3600 low-content pages hurt our rankings? Otherwise we are ranking quite well. Thanks, Johan

Adding new content wanted to see if we are correct path
Hello SEO’ers. This is my second post here on SEOmoz and I have a question / look it over type of deal. I have been reading through the information I have found here on SEOmoz from the community and it has been very informative and helpful. My question deals with my site http://www.tacticalbootstore.com One of the things we have learned is we needed better content as what we had was too thin. We have completely rewritten all of the manufacturer pages and are uploading them now 10/14 complete. This content I believe is about as unique as it will get. New Example here: http://www.tacticalbootstore.com/belleville-boots-m-74.html Old Example here: http://www.tacticalbootstore.com/altama-boots-m-86.html From these Manufacturer pages we have also written 3 other pages that are linked to from the manufacturer page Buyers Guide Example here: http://www.tacticalbootstore.com/belleville-boots-buying-guide-a-98.html FAQ Example here: http://www.tacticalbootstore.com/frequently-asked-questions-about-bellville-boots-a-96.html Sizing Information Example here: http://www.tacticalbootstore.com/belleville-boots-sizing-chart-a-97.html I believe this creates a virtual silo? We are in the process of rewriting all of the item product descriptions as well as that content was too thin. New Example here: http://www.tacticalbootstore.com/blackhawk-83bt02de-mens-desert-ops-boot-p-3916.html Old Example here: http://www.tacticalbootstore.com/altama-mens-inch-exo-boots-p-4086.html Please take note we have only uploaded the 1 new item description the rest of them still have thin content. We hope to have all of the products written and posted by week’s end. Would you guys mind checking what I have submitted here and tell me if we are on the correct path or not? Do you have any other ideas we could implement? I really appreciate your time in looking at this for me. I hope one day to be able to contribute to the community as well with the knowledge I will learn here. Thank you, Chris
