Comparing oddities between two websites
-
I've been working on SEO for a local website for a few years, last year a new competitor has popped up and started kicking my tail. So I figured I would pose the question and see if someone could point me in a different more helpful direction. I'm mainly stumped as to why the newer competitor has a higher DA and PA when I look at his link profile and lack of website content.
A few Comparison notes
- Competitor is using SSL on the entire site. I am not (Checkmark for him)
- Competitor has a spam score of 8 out of 17 I have a 1 out of 17 (Checkmark for me)
- Competitor has a DA of 18 - My DA is 17 (Checkmark for him)
- Competitor has a PA of 32 - My PA is 28 (Checkmark for him)
- My Established Link Domains 14 and 127 Links. Also the PA and DA of my external links are much better than the competitor.
- Competitor has Established Link Domains 9 and 30 Links Also the PA and DA of my external links are much better than the competitor. (Checkmark for me)
- I have created around 50 custom blog articles along with the pages on my site he has 0 and only 5 pages indexed by Google. (Checkmark for me)
The major issue when I do a comparison on OSE is that he has more external links and external equity passing links even though the links are very low value.

Hi Matt,
I can tell you that Google does not value multiple links from one domain, so if I get 40 links from example.com, it will not count nearly as much as if I got 40 links from different domains.
It looks like you have found a place where you have followed backlinks.
Because of the lack of RD's or backlink diversity, you would not be able to distinguish really if one site is all that much better from the back links perspective. (Without seeing the backlinks)
Then the other they're both really not the way you want Google to judge your back link profile based on such little diversity.
Something that leads me to believe he has more relevant or powerful backlinks. Please do not think I'm saying something negative I do not have all the information so I can only tell you what I think based on what I have been shown.
Meaning RD's And unique IP's are what matters not a bunch of links that for all they know could have been your buddies site how relevant are your backlinks and how established or how powerful are your backlinks that are from different domains compared to your competitor?
It seems based on the authority rankings that your competitor has more relevant or powerful back links. Think of it this way if I were in finance I would rather get a backlink from Bloomberg.com or Forbes.com then Moz.com however I would prefer backlink from Moz.com only because it is more relevant unless one of these magazines was doing a story on me and, therefore, making it suitable.
Every example I've given you is a very high domain authority URL. If I got 40 links from every one of them, it would not help me very much. Where if I got ten links from unique domains it would give me a hand much more.
Relevancy so if I have one link verse your 20, and I will take my one relevant link from a high authority domain verse I ton of these less powerful domains.
I'm not saying that you are thinking from bad domains I'm just saying that the statistics that you're giving me are not something that is surprising. You both have very few root domains it would have to be that this person has more relevant or more powerful root domains.
If you feel comfortable showing us your back link profile in their back link profile, I'll be more than happy to explain precisely what I mean.
Please understand there are a lot of moving parts and were just talking about page and domain authority not the other big players like brain rank.
I hope this is of some help,
Tom

Multilanguage Website
Hi, I am responsible for managing a multilingual website. I have two questions regarding SEO, based on the structure of the website. Question 1. At the moment we have one website for UK English and one for US English .com/en-gb/ .com/en-us/ Which would be the pros and cons of merging the two website in one? Question 2. For the German website they moved it under .de dominion, I think it would be better from an SEO perspective to have it as the Italian and French, under .com/de Which would be the pros and cons of migrating German website under .com/de? Thanks

I have a client in Australia that is going to set up a website that is in Chinese to service their Asian customer base (Indonesia, Singapore, HK, China). What domain should they use?
They're website is hosted on a .com.au domain. Should they host their Chinese language pages under their current domain (.com.au) using a subdirectory (i.e. /asia) or should they use another separate domain that they own that is a regular .com? Or does it really not matter?

Is this website optimized? Parallax web design for SEO.
Friends, I'm hoping to get some feedback on optimizing a website. It's a parallax web design so there's really only one title tag and meta description. I don't want to stuff the on-page content with keywords that don't flow with the copy/branding. What are some additional opportunities to optimize this website? It's not ranking in SERPs and has a low DA. Here's the URL, please take a look and let me know what I could be doing - https://saintst.com/ Thanks!

Hello Moz Community, We have been working with a company called Provincial Movers to optimize their website. We are focusing our efforts on building external local & relevant citations, however, I can't help but think there is more we can do internally --> www.provincialmoving.com The previous provider created a LOT of articles that are not necessarily relevant to the website like this: http://www.provincialmoving.com/blogs/ Do you guys have any suggestions for cleaning up the website so it performs better on Google? Thanks, Anton
