Domain Name Change-Negative Ranking Effect?
-
I am considering redirecting my domain name from www.nyc-officespace-leader.com to www.metro-manhattan.com. My company name is Metro Manhattan Office Space, Inc. so the new domain will be more consistent our identity. The Metro domain was registered with GoDaddy five years ago but has only been used for email and for forwarding (entering www.metro-manhattan.com will forward visitor to www.nyc-officespace-leader.com).
What is the likely hood that redirecting to the Metro-manhattan.com domain will result in a drop in traffic and ranking? I asked this question a year ago and the results were mixed. But one year is an eternity for Google. I am hoping that re-directs work better now and that if this is implemented correctly there will be no ranking/traffic/domain authority loss.
Thoughts??
Thanks, Alan

Well, in my views yes you will get benefit out of this change. I would suggest you to run a backlink audit of your old site and make disallow list of all toxic links. Disallow all those and put a 301 redirect as soon as you can.
Another tip, when you do it, try to change your onsite content. This will add up another plus point for your site.
I checked your site, its look amzing i think you will not only retain but will get good result. Moreover, you second domain has more branded power than the current one along with age of the domain.
So Good luck with your change.

Thanks, that is a very informative response!!
In our case we will change the top level domain. However the company is called Metro Manhattan Office Space, Inc. and we are changing the domain to www.metro-manhattan.com, really much closer than the current domain of www.nyc-officespace-leader.com. Furthermore the Metro-Manhattan domain was registered about 5 years ago with Godaddy.
If the 301 redirects are done properly, do you think we can more or less retain ranking, traffic and domain authority? Or do you think we are going to take a hit?
Also, is the www.metro-manhattan.com domain OK? It does have a hyphen.
Thanks so much!!
Alan

Hi, Frankly there are few things to be consider while you thinking to change your domain. We did the same for one of our client but result for them was perfectly fine.
Our client, domainn was (www.webuycarstoday.com) this site was poorly developed and has very low due to Google penalty we change to (www.webuycarstoday.co.uk) as you can see we did not change brand name but the TLD. After changing its TLD, we secure top page positions for all main keywords and since than its getting good customers attention. Now, In my opinion if you moved your site permanently by using 301 redirect, it will not have major impact however, if you planning to rebrand yourselves with new business name there might be risk of fall in traffic as a result. I think, you may use the similar kind of site but with different TLD that will work.

Can’t put a finger on, what is causing 12 year domain, SEO optimized and decent link profile to rank lower than other less superior domains.
Can’t put a finger on, what is causing 12 year domain, SEO optimized and decent link profile to rank lower than other less superior domains. I have dissected the site and link, content, etc profile using ahrefs tools, still no luck, and unfortunately they do not have a community to ask anyone opinion. Hoping someone on Moz will be able to provide me with a secondary opinion or something I obviously missing here. Looking for any constructive feedback/professional opinion with fresh look on what maybe the cause of our down rankings and what may be a cause of it. Any feedback is very much appreciated. Would a mass data update have a negative effect on SEO?
We have a large eCommerce site with the ability to do an export, change data, and import new data in mass. Over the 15 years that this site has been growing, it has accumulated several inconsistencies in product titles, descriptions, title tags, etc. The question is: If we were to update thousands of product titles ( 's on those pages) and some of the descriptions, would it have a negative SEO impact because of the groundbreaking number of products effected? Or would it only be for the better if they were all technically improvements (both in SEO and UX)? Thanks!

Domain Name Switch Considering Special Circumstances
Thank you kindly for taking the time to read this. The company I work with is a wedding chapel in Las Vegas. They've had the same domain since about 2001. Their organic placement has been stellar since about 2008. With the most recent Panda update some results did slip, but they are still strong & I feel that the SEPRs that slipped will be back up shortly (hopefully!) The company recently bought the url www.VegasWeddings.com which happens to be a generic key phrase, BUT ALSO IS THE NAME OF THE BUSINESS. They want to switch, but I am in a bit of a conundrum of this. It seems really risky, but also makes a lot of sense. Help? Insight? Anything? Thank you dearly!!!

Is it safe to redirect our .nl (netherlands) domain that we have just purchased to our .com domain?
Hi all! We've recently developed a German version of our website with German translation and now we have just purchased a .nl domain, but with this one, we want all of the copy to remain in English. Is it ok to redirect our .nl domain to our current .com website or will this give us bad SEO points? Thank you!

Redirect ruined domain to new domain without passing link juice
A new client has a domain which has been hammered by bad links, updates etc and it's basically on its arse because of previous SEO guys. They have various domains for their business (brand.com, brand.co.uk) and want to use a fresh domain and take it from there. Their current domain is brand.com (the ruined one). They're not bothered about the rankings for brand.com but they want to redirect brand.com to brand.co.uk so that previous clients can find them easily. Would a 302 redirect work for this? I don't want to set up a 301 redirect as I don't want any of the crappy links pointing across. Thanks!

My Domain rank is falling but my traffic is improving?
I have been here for one month today and have been reworking many pages to improve my On-Page results for my site www.antiquebanknotes.com I have seen some really nice improvement in my organic, search and non paid keywords. (up 38%, 21% and 29% this week) But last week all of a sudden my domain authority dropped from 10 to 9. Not tragic but still odd since I have been getting some decent results from my optimazations. My competitors have domain authority in the 20's so it's something I am sure I need to work on. I have added links out to relevant sites and added lots of content but my domain authority falls? Is this common when a site makes lots of changes?

Registry changes: Negative impact on organic rankings?
A client's site ranks very well for extremely competitive terms. The google rankings have been stable for over a year. There has been an organizational shake up, and the 'registrant' and administrative/billing/technical contact info needs to be updated, including the physical address. I have been hesitant to modify the information for risk of a negative impact on the rankings. Will changes to the registrant/contacts/address info at the registrar have a negative impact on current organic rankings? Thanks,
