Dates in the blog posts - on, off or regularly updated
-
Hello Moz community,
We have a blog where we post what we believe is very valuable, unique content for our niche. The content frequently stays very relevant for our visitor for many many years.
In terms of both user engagement and SEO, should we keep the dates in our blog posts?
Should we remove them?
Should we go through every blog post and edit it slightly every week even if there is no meaningful information we can add?
Should employ some kind of plugin that does update the blog post date automatically?

Completely agree with Rob! Doesn't matter in any way usually if you keep or remove it. Even as a publisher ourselves we tested it and what we mostly noticed is that almost nobody cares ;).

Hi Max,
This one is fairly straightforward - I wouldn't worry too much about the dates on the articles/posts as compared to what quality they present to your readers. RankBrain is looking at more than age when it is ranking your content (although age plays a role). More important than age, however, is the user interaction with the content.
If your content is unique and holds value for years, then dates shouldn't be an issue. If you are simply updating posts for the sake of updating posts, I doubt it will help very much when there are definitely more productive things you can be doing such as generating links or working on user experience or CRO (if your industry is open to such strategies).
Again, for user engagement, I wouldn't sweat it. Most users will click through on the first few results in SERPs regardless of when the article was written. The rest will likely come to your article if they do not find answers in more recent articles or posts. The only way changing the posts to alter their date makes sense to me is if someone submits an updated version of your content following a change in your industry.
Hope this advice helps!
All the best,
Rob

Why are my Duplicated Pages not being updated?
I've recently changed a bunch of duplicated pages from our site. I did get a slightly minimized amount of duplicated pages, however, some of the pages that I've already fixed are still unfixed according to MOZ. Whenever I check the back-end of each of these pages, I see that they've already been changed and non of them are the same in terms of Meta Tag Title is concern. Can anyone provide any suggestions on what I should do to get a more accurate result? Is there a process that I'm missing?

Are There Negatives to Removing the Rich Snippet Date
On some of our website's pages, Google displays the date of the last update in the search results. We want to remove this because it cuts off our meta description and it can make our page look outdated. Are there any negative consequences that you can think of when removing the date rich snippet.

WordPress post indexation speed
Has anyone noticed any increases in the length of time it takes for WP posts to get indexed by Google? I have a website with the following: domain.com - CMS with lots of pages/content blog.domain.com - subdomain for the blog using WP It's odd.. the pages on the main site are indexed almost immediately. The posts on the blog are taking between 2-5 days. The blog posts are all unique content, here's an example of a recent one: blog.looksfishy.co.uk/2013/three-rivers-angling/

Rel = Canonical in Blog Posting
Hello, I keep coming back to rel=canonical issues! I noticed when I "view pagesource" that my drupal blog posting automatically creates link rel="canonical" href="/sample-blog-title" /< pattern (with the > reversed) in the source code. I'm getting a lot of Rel=Canonical warnings and double content warnings from Seomoz so I've been trying to insert link rel="canonical" href="http://www.example.com/blog/my-awesome-blog-post"< but the page won't retain the code for some reason. I'm entering the code in Plain Text, but saving the document as Full HTML. Is there a better piece of code I can put in to demonstrate that the original blog page is the original source? Thanks!
