Weird Bing Search Results
-
Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can explain what's going on here, because after hours of searching I cannot find anyone having the same problem...
We use Bing search to provide the site search functionality on our website and recently for a particular keyword search, the results include several pages which are not on our site: they are on completely different domains! You can replicate it by going to bing.com and using the "site:" operator together with that keyword. Again, results from other domains appear in amongst the pages on our site.
I cannot find any other keywords which produce this same behaviour: every other keyword I have tried shows only results from our site. However, I obviously haven't tested absolutely every possible keyword combination. Bing isn't "padding" out the results or anything like that, because we have more than enough pages referencing this term on the site, and I'm at a total loss as to why this is happening.
So, I suppose my question is: has anyone ever had this happen to them? And if so, what did they do about it?
Many thanks,
Dan

Hi All,
Just giving this a bump, because on a weird day, this still seems weird to me. Just to put it in a nutshell:
When you do a bing search like this: "site:www.oursite.co.uk "particular keyword", you get results like:
- Page about particular keyword from www.oursite.co.uk
- Different page with this keyword from www.oursite.co.uk
- Page featuring that keyword from www.acompletelydifferentsite.com
- Another page with this keyword from www.oursite.co.uk
- Another page but from www.anothertotallydifferentsite.net
etc.
Has anybody, anywhere ever come across this?
Many thanks,
Dan

Google loves me. Yahoo and Bing not so much...
My site is ranked very high for my keywords on Google and Google Maps. But we come in 4 or 6 places lower on the other two search engines. Does any one have any pointers on the different types of algorithms they use? Many thanks in advance:)

Google News Results
This is more of an observation than anything else. Has anyone noticed any strange results in Google News, in terms of very old content hitting page 1? My example is football, I support Newcastle so keep checking for the latest transfer failure or humiliation. First page for couple of days is showing old articles (April, May) from the same source rather than the usual spread of tabloid and broadsheet news.

Does Search Volume Directly Effect Organic Search Result Rankings?
For example, if 20,000 people searched for "seomoz toasters," do you think a page on seomoz.org that mentioned toasters would begin to rank well for the query "toasters"?

How do search engines calculate ranking?
On SEOMoz, I can see that when people type in X keyword, my website comes up at Y place. For example, if someone googles "Mobile Productivity", a page on my website comes up at #10. How is that #10 ranking calculated? I would've guessed it's based on some combination of linking root domain and page authority, but I see sites that rank below mine that have higher scores on both. For example, on the aforementioned 'Mobile Productivity' search, my site comes up #10 with a Linking Root Domain score of 2, and a Page Authority of 29. But Honeywell Products and Services comes up #13 on the same "Mobile Productivity" search (ie, BELOW my site), even though they have a Linking Root Domain score of 40 and a Page Authority of 72. Similarly, Mobileproductivity.com comes in at #1 for that search with scores of 7 and 31 respectively, but mpifix.com comes in at #2 with scores of 61 and 47 respectively. How are the search engine rankings calculated? Thanks in advance, Julian

Has there been a change in the Bing/Yahoo Algorithm?
I have noticed many of my sites took a beating this month on Bing and Yahoo, while Google stayed pretty flat.
