Struggles with Rankings
-
Links seem to be very important to the success of websites today. That said, they are real tough to come by in my specific industry. Plus the president of the company does not want any links on the site, so,................... thats where I am.
I paid for links in the past and that was a big mistake!!
I am still looking to gain a few links for the website (www.allianceconcretepumps.com) is ezinearticles.com a good location to post aricles in hopes to get links? If it is a good location, do you know of any other ones which would be beneficial?
I know I could use some more and better sight content......... I have quite a lot of fresh stuff in the works not just up yet. Hopefully in the next few weeks.........?
Any other words from the wise are very much welcome. Thank You
Dave

If you have a message to spread you should post it everywhere you can and get everyone everywhere to post it for you.
However, if you are making money in a specific niche and you distribute content for your topics it is possible that the content will be posted on sites that will outrank you. And, if your content is really good and those sites post it then they will attract links that could have gone to you.
Those are some of the reasons why I never give content in my topic areas away. You can do whatever you want.

Do you mean to say we shouldn't post content elsewhere, but on our own site ?
-
If you post great content about concrete pumps on ezine I would be tempted to grab it and post it on my own site.
The problem with that for you is.... that would immediately give me pages that would overnight be ranking in your SERPs - above your site I bet.
Giving your content away feeds existing competitors and creates new ones.
The only content that I would give away is something so horrible I would like to see it on my competitor's site.
Lots of people will disagree with me. I am comfortable with that.

Google Ranking
I'm working on a page for couple of months now and try to rank for very competitive keyword. I have reached position 12 and it's 97% optimized, the sites keeps going up and down between position 10 & 13. I already changed content a couple of times and already created a few links with the targeted anchor tags. However I'm scared if I create more links it will be penalized. What do you suggest? Should I create more links with the targeted anchor tags or should combine the keyword in anchor tags with other words? Loading time, title, descriptions, content everything perfect optimized.

Need advice: How to replace a high-ranking pdf with a landing page -- without dropping much in rank?
Hi! We have a pdf of a white paper on our site that ranks #1 for a niche term. We are now exploring the idea of building a landing page for this paper with an overview (2-3 paragraphs) and a registration form for interested parties to fill out in order to access the paper. Do you think there'd be any hope of ensuring the new landing page would rank almost as well eventually (top 3)? I'm thinking a key consideration would be preserving the link juice from the existing links that are coming into the pdf, and that 301 redirecting the pdf URL to the new landing page URL could help with that. Am I right? Or would it be better to try to reach out to the linking sites and ask them to update their links (seems daunting). Any advice/opinions on this situation would be appreciated. (If folks think that there would be a significant risk of permanently dropping out of the top 5 by attempting this, we would likely choose to leave the pdf ungated as is.) Thanks!! -John

Do you think 3-way link exchanges help in keyword rank and overall PR authority?
I know traditional link exchanges aren't very valuable and Google doesn't respect them as much, but what about 3-way link exchanges?
