SERPs showing hundreds of nonexistent pages
-
My site has this page (URL) that actually exists on my site https://mysite.com/ranking/rankings-of-nike-running-shoes
but somehow I can see the following versions in SERPs (these URLs are not physically available on my site):
https://mysite.com/ranking/rankings-of-rankings-of-rankings-of-nike-running-shoes
https://mysite.com/ranking/rankings-of-rankings-of-nike-running-shoesI even started getting traffic from these URLs that are in Google's index.
So, only the first one actually existins on my site:
- https://mysite.com/ranking**/rankings-of-rankings-of-**rankings-of-nike-running-shoes
- https://mysite.com/ranking/**rankings-of-**rankings-of-nike-running-shoes
Questions are:
a. I'm not sure how the latter two - 2) and 3) - got in Google's index.
b. what do I do with them. My idea is to 301 redirect them to the actual page that exists https://mysite.com/ranking/rankings-of-nike-running-shoesDo I need to also somehow remove the faulty URLs - 2) and 3) - from Google's index or 301 redirecting is enough?

301 redirects should do the trick but you need to figure out how this happened to begin with and make sure to squash the bug to fix the issue.

Hi there
1. I would check the internal links on your website to see if you accidentally typed the URL wrong. Then, I would check your backlinks (using Open Site Explorer, Majestic, or Ahrefs) to see if any websites are linking to your website with the incorrect URL (then ask them to update the link!)
2. Simply redirect them to the URL you want to be the ranking URL, update your sitemap, and submit that sitemap to Google Search Console.
Hope this helps! Good luck!
Patrick

Sitelinks just not showing :-(
Buonjourno from Wetherby UK 4 degrees C not snowing yet. Ok here goes... when you Google "Kingspan panels" there are no sitelinks in the SERPS ie a listing like this http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/with-sitelinks.jpg My first line of investigatrion was to look at the XML sitemap here: http://www.kingspanpanels.co.uk/CMSPages/GoogleSiteMap.aspx with a view to make sure its updated and Google Fetch it via webmaster tools. So my question is please..."What can you do to ensure sitelinks appear in the SERpS" Grazie Tanto 🙂

Indexed pages and current pages - Big difference?
Our website shows ~22k pages in the sitemap but ~56k are showing indexed on Google through the "site:" command. Firstly, how much attention should we paying to the discrepancy? If we should be worried what's the best way to find the cause of the difference? The domain canonical is set so can't really figure out if we've got a problem or not?

Should i Change On Page Optimization ?
Hi, PC monitoring and computer monitoring software are our targeted keywords. Around 5 weeks ago, We created a page for pc monitoring software (home/pc-monitoring-software) and did some bookmarking and guest posts targeting PC monitoring software keyword. Now we are in Top 15 on Google for PC monitoring software keyword . Initially we were thinking to change content of around 2 year old home page to adjust computer monitoring software keyword and do SEO for this keyword. But few days ago, we noticed that our pc-monitoring-software page is already ranking in early fourties for computer monitoring software keyword as well. May be Google is giving advatage of being synonym of PC . Now we are thinking that we should optimize the PC monitoring software page for both computer and PC software keywords like adding "computer monitoring software" in addition to existing "pc monitoring software" in title and similalrly do other on page related work for Computer Mnitoring Software. We are also thinking of doing 301 redirect of existing pc-monitoring-software page to new computer-monitoring-software page which will be optimized both for PC and Computer. Please suggest me if it will help to get good ranking for both PC and Computer Monitoring software if we make above mentioned changes or we should not change the existing pc-monitoring-software page and shall stick to earlier plan of changing the home page to adjust for computer monitoring software.? I'm new to SEO, so want to make wise decision with your help instead of learning with failures. Thanks, shahzad

Mass 404 pages
Hi Guys, If I were to have to take down the majority of my site, taking all content and links pointing to that content down. How would the search engines react? Would I get a penalty for the majority of the site all of the sudden missing? My only concern is the loss of traffic on the remanding pages. Thanks!

Page MozRank and MozTrust 0 for Home Page, Makes No Sense?
Hey Mozzers! I'm a bit confused by a site that is showing a 0 for home page MozRank and MozTrust, while its subdomain and root domain metrics look decent (relatively). I am posting images of the page metrics and subdomain metrics to show the disparity: http://i.imgur.com/3i0jq.png http://i.imgur.com/ydfme.png Is it normal to see this type of disparity? The home page has very little inbound links, but the big goose egg has me wondering if there is something else going on. Has anyone else experienced this? Or, does anyone have speculation as to why a home page would have a 0 MozRank while the subdomain metrics look much better? Thanks!
