INBOUND LINKS FROM OTHER OWNED BRANDS HARMING MY MAIN SITE?
-
Hey,
I work for a company that owns 5 brands, all pretty large sites with 10,000s of pages.
We have one primary site, that has inbound links from all the other owned sites (4) resulting in 950k backlinks pointing to the domain.
For context, the primary domain has 781 referring domains (with 4 of them being the other owned sites).
My question was, will this excess of linking be harming the primary domain? Will the ration of backlinks to referring domains be seen as a negative quality indicator?

No stress whatsoever. What you have done is identified an issue, to be monitored. If no sudden change in rankings or even a slow decline you are in a strong position. So no need for concern.
We are getting a lot of wins, by improving schema markup for our clients, perhaps do a schema review. Keep ahead of the pack.
Go get em, Regards

We tend to rank well on certain terms for the primary site, although not so great on other terms.
The other sites all rank well.
Here is an example of the sitewide link in the navigation of one of the owned sites.
So no immediate concern?
Thanks in advance.

What your describing is not uncommon. Large companies often have interdependent websites interlinking.
The larger picture is whether google sees the structure as a PBN.
So first question is, how are the sites ranking, or at least the primary site? If the site is ranking well - then no urgency and need to change anything. So can you clarify?
Regards

I have managed to land a few expert pieces on external sites for my company and would like to document that on our blog in the form of mini-blurbs which lead through to the article... but if I link back to it, is that bad practice?
Of course link sharing can be punishable if it is done to share juice, and I understand that on the surface it could look like link sharing, but in reality it would just be nice to document the different successes we've had. Thoughts?

Unnatural Links To Your Site — Impacts Links warning, Should I do something?
Hi, I got: "Unnatural Links To Your Site — Impacts Links Google has detected a pattern of unnatural artificial, deceptive, or manipulative links pointing to pages on this site. Some links may be outside of the webmaster’s control, so for this incident we are taking targeted action on the unnatural links instead of on the site’s ranking as a whole. " I don't see any dropping at rankings, could the best solution here to be, just to leave everything as it is and be more careful with the link building in the future? Or is there a danger that Google gives further penalties if I don't act on this one do something? I am little afraid that if I start removing links, my rankings will drop, even though they have remained same if don't do anything? Any help is appreciated.

How much 'ranking power' would a link from a privacy policy page of a Big Brand have if the site content is totally unrelated?
Let's say that Site A is a large brand with high authority ( Moz shows it at 90 DA). Site A is about “Blue Shoes”. Site B is about “fishing”. If Site A links from their privacy policy page to Site B … would that inbound link carry enough weight in a way that could impact rankings for Site B given that the content is totally unrelated and it's a link from a privacy policy? I’m asking if the work to get clients/partners do this help. I have a hypothetical question for you all! Site A is a large brand with high authority ( Moz shows it at 90 DA). Linking root domains to your own site
I have been using the moz open site explorer tool and glancing at my competition. I noticed most sites if not all in the linking domains section have a link to there own site. How do i do this? On my site i have no established links and my score is only 1/1. Even with lower ranking sites that have there own site linking to there self have a 16/16. Any help would be appreciated I am pretty new to all of this. thanks

Site used to rank first for main keyword - now dropped drastically
The home page for this site (http://bit.ly/4m1eXy) was ranking between #1 and #3 for the term "Minneapolis criminal defense" as of a few months ago. Now the home page has dropped to #23 for this keyword, and the only changes we've made should be enhancing its ability to rank - through on-page optimization, cleaning up site errors, and ensuring good, quality content. The thing is, the sites who rank ahead of our site have lower domain authority and page authority, and their content, quite frankly, just isn't that great. Some of them are definitely doing SEO but they aren't necessarily targeting "Minneapolis criminal defense" like we are for the search term. Before our company started doing SEO for this website, they hired a company that generated a large number of backlinks that Google would probably now see as spammy. The previous company also used to direct traffic towards the home page for the keyword "Minneapolis DWI laywer" too - and we have since stopped doing that. So I'm wondering with all of Google's algorithmic updates if this is the reason we're seeing a drop for this term, and if Google's confused. We're pretty confused, too, though, since the sites ranking ahead of us don't seem to be doing squeaky clean SEO by any means. Advice for us? We're stumped. Would anyone consider Google's disavow tool for the bad links?

Links from flash site completely useless?
From a link building perspective, is a link from a site that's completely flash any good? Can google crawl flash sites at all, or it a waste of time trying to get a link from a flash site?
