Has anyone found a way to get site links in the SERPs?
-
I am wanting to get some site links in the serps to increase the size of my "space", has anyone found a way of getting them?
I know google says that its automatic and only generated if they feel it would benifit browsers but there must be a rule of thumb to follow.
I was thinking down the line of a tight catagorical system that is implimented throughout the site that is clearly related to the content (how it should be I guess)...
Any comments, suggestions welcome

Awesome! Great knowledge. Thanks you all!

I have a site with DA of 41 and another with a DA of 30 that both have sitelinks

One item that will help with sitelinks is having your site verified in GWT and a clean sitemap.xml submitted to them with the URLs you want for sitelinks being the first URLs in the sitemap. I have worked on two sites that did not have sitelinks for thier brand once I did this they showed up in a week.
Sometimes the sitelinks will disappear after a few weeks and then reappear in a couple weeks when they first start showing up for your site.

Do you, from experience, when the organic site links will popup out based on the SEOMoz root domain Authority rank ?
(more or less - from x to y)
-
There's actually two opportunities here:
- Paid Site Links
- Organic Site Links
Paid Site Links
This one's not too complicated at all. Simply login to AdWords and create an Ad Extension under the campaign you'd like to add site links to. You can add several site links, so if you're SEO-smart, you'll create some awesome link bait on those pages for visitors who might be inclined to link. I created a plugin that does the job well for me (see http://www.seolinkrotator.com/).
Organic Site Links
Unfortunately, the vague answer of 'authority' doesn't cut it for me and probably won't for the novice user reading this thread. Here's how I have controlled organic site links in the past:
- Keep the main navigation on the website short, sweet and explicit
- Match your anchor text to the page title and heading (h1) as close as possible
- Leverage internal linking (or intra-linking) throughout your content, linking to those important pages frequently
- Nofollow the navigational elements you do not want indexed (Login, My Account, etc)
- Include awesome link bait on those pages
- Include buzz bait on those pages (Tweetmeme, Facebook Like, etc)
- Analyze your Internal Links and keywords using Google Webmaster Tools
- Hold your breath, check back in 2-3 weeks
Both paid and organic can play well together if you're using the same pages for both site link campaigns. The drawback is A/B testing flexibility you might normally be used to having in paid search.

Why remove them? surely it's better to have them then not.
-
- Type in your brand. Usually pops up (you can check if you have it in Google Webmaster Tools)
- Get to position #1 for the term and you'll get the sitelinks if the condition 1) is met.
If you're talking about controlling what Google suggests it seems it's based on user choices more than anything. Although I did have a few suprising sitelinks which I had to manually remove in GWT. It did not make sense as they didn't get enough traffic to justrify Google's decision.

Thanks all of you. Not really the answers I was looking for but now I know what to work on cheers!

I agree authority is key here, however we found having a clear site navigation near the top of the page, as well as including breadcrumbs on deeper pages helped give google the clues about which pages to show when you are deemed worthy!
-
I'll just back Thomas up there. Yes that's 100% correct. Google will only display these site-links when it deems the site to have a certain authority.
-
my experiences are that sitelinks only show up on queries where your site is very authoritative.
Obviously this means that sitelinks are query specific, but also that the only way to get them is to keep building authority - links.

Realtor site with external links in navigation
I have a client with a realtor site that uses IDX for the listings feed. We have several external links going over to the IDX site for various live custom searches (ie: luxury listings, waterfront listings, etc...). We are getting a Moz spam ranking of 2/7 for both "Large Number of External Links" and "External Links in Navigation". Chances are, these are related. My question is this: (1) Being the score is only 2/7, should I bother with fixing this? (2) If I add a rel="nofollow" to all the site-wide links (in header, footer & menu) will this help? I couldn't find anything definitive in the Q&A search. Looking forward to any insights!!!

Is it common for a site to disappear and reappear in the SERPS?
I have a site that's 2 years old and it completely disappeared from the search results. It wasn't a manual action because I never got a notice in webmaster tools. Could the site reappear? A lot of people on Odesk say the site will reappear after a few days.

E-commerce site structure & link juice: Bouncing off an idea
Hi guys, Question from a new-comer in SEO. Summary of the situation: potential customers are searching for a generic product category (buy mountainbike) more often than a brand in that category (Specialized MTB). And the latter is searched more often than a specific product ('some specific product from Specialized brand'). Both the brand pages and product pages are not ranking good Then would it be a good idea to have the category pages only link to the brand pages? They may show the products, but the links wouldn't pass link juice. I'm not even sure if that is technically possible, but I wanted to figure out the merit first. I'm hoping this would support the brand pages to rank better as they take in more volume. Please do feel free to teach me!

What things, that we might overlook, help retain link juice on the site?
Since subscribing to Moz, I have been focussing alot on some of the more technical aspects of SEO. The current thing I am finding interesting is stopping link juice leaks. Here are a selection of some of the things I have done: I have cloaked my affiliate links - see http://yoast.com/cloak-affiliate-links/ Removed some html coded social share links within the theme, and replaced with javascript plugin (http://wordpress.org/plugins/flare/) Used the Moz toolbar to view as Google, to see what google is seeing. Removed some meta links at the bottom of blog posts (author etc) that were duplicated. Now, I don't intend to go over the top with this, as links to social accounts on each page are there to encourage engagement etc, but are there any things you may have come across \ tips that people may have overlooked but perhaps should look out for? As example as some of the things that might be interesting to discuss: Are too many tags, categories bad? Do you index your tag, date archive pages? Does it matter?

How get rid of duplicate content, titles, etc on php cartweaver site?
my website http://www.bartramgallery.com was created using php and cartweaver 2.0 about five years ago by a web developer. I was really happy with the results of the design was inspired to get into web development and have been studying ever since. My biggest problem at this time is that I am not knowledgable with php and the cartweaver product but am learning as I read more. The issue is that seomoz tools are reporting tons of duplicate content and duplicate title pages etc. This is likely from the dynamic urls and same pages with secondary results etc. I just made a new sitemap with auditmypc I think it was called in an attempt to get rid of all the duplicate page titles but is that going to solve anything or do I need to find another way to configure the site? There are many pages with the same content competing for page rank and it is a bit frustrating to say the least. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated even pointing me in the right direction. Thank you, Jesse

Can you advise why my site get outranked by sites with way less authority and so on
Hello SeoMoz, As a new member I first want to thank you guys for your service, seomoz is by far the best resource and toolbox I have ever found. I have a question, or more of a request if you could advise me on what I do wrong.

I have a website: www.letsflycheaper.com with a Domain Authority of 80, and my target keywords are keywords like: cheap business class, business class flights.
My target page is: www.letsflycheaper.com/business-class.php. With all my keywords I am page 2 and I have a real hard time getting on the first page, but if I look at my competitors like: www.wholesale-flights.com with a Domain Authority of 'just' 50, crappy backlinks and so on, they are all on the first page with almost all of my keywords that I want to target. What do I do wrong? Can you maybe give me a couple tips on where I should focus on more? Hopefully you guys can help me... Kind Regards, Ramon van Meer0
