Duplicate content and what to say to my webmaster
-
Hi,
SEOmoz is telling me I have a duplicate content issue between
kansascityrealestate dot com and
kansascityrealestate dot com/Real-Estate-Homes-Kansas-City.asp
my webmaster says Google should figure out is the same page.
Suggestions on what to do and how to explain it to the webmaster?
Thank you.

This is a classical case with websites where same content is found on 2 different URLs of the website.
1st of all, ask your webmaster to do a 301 of your 2nd url to your homepage. Tell him that since the content is duplicate, it makes no sense to ask Google to crawl 2 pages with the same content.
If you cannot do a redirect, you can add a rel=canonical tag to your meta to tell Google that the 2 URLs have same content.

Thank you, Joe (or Joel), very nice of you to answer. I appreciate it.

Thank you, Kate. My daughter's name is Kate as well. I appreciate your help.

Your webmaster is right, Google will notice that they are the same. The issue with that is that crawl time is then spent on two exactly same pages. One will not show in the results, so why even have Google or any other search engine crawl it? It's a waste of their time and yours. I wanted to see the duplicate content but can't find the second page. If they are exact duplicates and the other one holds no value, 301 redirect it to the homepage and find the links to it, email webmasters to change the links. If there is a reason for it to exist, then slap on a rel canonical to the homepage.
Best of luck!

Duplicate content issues with file download links (diff. versions of a downloadable application)
I'm a little unsure how canonicalisation works with this case. 🙂 We have very regular updates to the application which is available as a download on our site. Obviously, with every update the version number of the file being downloaded changes; and along with it, the URL parameter included when people click the 'Download' button on our site. e.g. mysite.com/download/download.php?f=myapp.1.0.1.exe mysite.com/download/download.php?f=myapp.1.0.2.exe mysite.com/download/download.php?f=myapp.1.0.3.exe, etc In the Moz Site Crawl report all of these links are registering as Duplicate Content. There's no content per se on these pages, all they do is trigger a download of the specified file from our servers. Two questions: Are these links actually hurting our ranking/authority/etc? Would adding a canonical tag to the head of mysite.com/download/download.php solve the crawl issues? Would this catch all of the download.php URLs? i.e. Thanks! Jon

Hi guys What the best way to adress duplicate content on photo gallery?
inside my moz report for duplicate contentit says that the photo gallery has duplicate content. let me post and example. is saying this site->http://www.yoursite.com//photogallery/name-of-the-page site photogallery category page name its being duplicated to all these other urls : http://www.yoursite.com//photogallery/name-of-the-page-categoryone http://www.yoursite.com//photogallery/name-of-the-page-categorytwo http://www.yoursite.com//photogallery/name-of-the-page-categorythree http://www.yoursite.com//photogallery/name-of-the-page-categoryfour and so on! each one has it own canonical tag to its own individual page. the site structure is this: http://www.yoursite.com//photogallery/ in here there are all the links pointing to the right categorypage ie: http://www.yoursite.com//photogallery/ >>>> http://www.yoursite.com//photogallery/categoryone pic 1 pic 2 pic 3 http://www.yoursite.com//photogallery/categorytwo pic 1 pic 2 pic 3 http://www.yoursite.com//photogallery/categorythree pic 1 pic 2 pic 3 http://www.yoursite.com//photogallery/categoryfour pic 1 pic 2 pic 3 So i don't know how to interpret Moz diagnose. how could i interpret moz reports to find out what to fix and how to fix it? Sorry for the long post! ;

Error on duplicated content, but when checking shouldn't been possible
Dear all, Every week I look at the different crawl reports for our website, since the start of my SeoMoz membership the Errors for duplicated content and duplicated Title is rising. But if I take out the .csv file and look in more detail, and select a pages which is marked as duplicated content, a canonical is actually existing on this page. So it shouldn't be an warning, I have no idea what the issue could be. For example pagesare marked as duplicated content, <colgroup><col width="966"></colgroup>

To overcome duplicated content we coded that a canonical tag onis placed on every page with parameters and the main page is http://www.zylom.com/es/descargar-juegos/3-en-raya/ but it doesn't seem to work, because my error warnings are still rising. Crawl Diagnostics Warnings - Duplicate Content
Hi All, I am getting a lot of warnings about duplicate page content. The pages are normally 'tag' pages. I have some news stories or blog posts tagged with multiple 'tags'. Should I ask google not to index the tag pages? Does it really affect my site? Thanks

Duplicate page content showing up with proper use of canonical tag
Hi, In the Crawl diagnostics reports, I'm getting lots of duplicate errors warnings e.g. duplicate page title. In most cases these are tracking urls and the page has a canonical tag pointing to the original page. It would be helpful if the crawl analysis reports could separate these out from ones that are of genuine concern. It can also happen when there's a noindex tag on a page. Thanks, Leigh

Linking C Blocks - SEOMoz says its a good thing?
In the competitve analysis, one competitor have more Linking C Blocks, Seomoz has a tick by it almost like its a better thing. Surely a site with the same administrative relationship is not going to help you as much from a linking point of view.

About Duplicate Content found by SEOMOZ... that is not duplicate
Hi folks, I am hunting for duplicate content based on SEOMOZ great tool for that 🙂 I have some pages that are mentioned as duplicate but I cant say why. They are video page. The content is minimalistic so I guess it might be because all the navigation is the same but for instance http://www.nuxeo.com/en/resource-center/Videos/Nuxeo-World-2010/Nuxeo-World-2010-Presentation-Thierry-Delprat-CTO and http://www.nuxeo.com/en/resource-center/Videos/Nuxeo-World-2010/Nuxeo-World-2010-Presentation-Cheryl-McKinnon-CMO are mentioned as duplicate. Any idea? Is it hurting? Cheers,
