Where would you advice getting your links?
Blog comments look like spam if your keyword is in the name field and I'm sure google will crack down on this. Emailing webmasters will cost a hell of a lot if you want a lot of links. Directorys are low quality and irelevant! Where does this leave us in terms of getting links?
-
For Google to truly devalue links, they would have to have something better to determine the value of web sites and social media just isn't there yet as an all inclusive voting system for web sites.
-
There was the JC Penney incident a few weeks back that made for a major shift in how Google devalues some links. All Matt Cutts would say is that they had already been working on it and the JCP thing just brought it up sooner rather than later.
Is this a new trend in SEO? Nope. Google still likes quality links and still tries their hardest to remove low quality ones that artificially drive up results.
-
On the contrary, I think Google cares about links even more. They just added more weight to the quality of the sources and the link juice they pass. Be very diligent when choosing who to get your backlinks from. Do your research with all the outstanding tools here on SEOMOZ and be consistent about building your link profile and you'll do wonderful and have fun as well.
The Panda Update is evidence of this. Google has to care because it affects their bottom line. Other things to watch out for are Social graph metrics influencing SERPS.

Couldn't disagree more; however, WHERE the links are coming from definitely has had an effect.

How much 'ranking power' would a link from a privacy policy page of a Big Brand have if the site content is totally unrelated?
Let's say that Site A is a large brand with high authority ( Moz shows it at 90 DA). Site A is about “Blue Shoes”. Site B is about “fishing”. If Site A links from their privacy policy page to Site B … would that inbound link carry enough weight in a way that could impact rankings for Site B given that the content is totally unrelated and it's a link from a privacy policy? I’m asking if the work to get clients/partners do this help. I have a hypothetical question for you all! Site A is a large brand with high authority ( Moz shows it at 90 DA). Site A is about “Blue Shoes”. Site B is about “fishing”. If site A links from their privacy policy to Site B … would that inbound link carry enough weight in a way that could impact rankings? Total Links vs Google Webmaster Site Links
I am interested why the numbers between SEOmoz and Google are so different. In SEOmoz we only show 17,000ish links from 190ish domains. In Google, we show 200,000+ links from 370 domains. Why is there such a dramatic difference?

Using an SEO Agency to build one-way links for you via link exchange
There are a number of SEO agencies which offer link building as part of their SEO offerings. I believe they build one-way links to the client site, by offering another link in exchange to the liking site. So, if the client site is "C", and link is being requested from site "A", the site "A" owner is offered a link from site "B" in return. Is this a good and/or recommended practice?

Back Link: Is LinkedIn keywords in profile good Link building strategy?
I distribute industrial products B2B with e commerce. I have a personal profile on LinkedIn. I listed the products I sell and I could have all my partners and associates list my web site on their profiles. Do search engines review LinkedIn personal profiles or company profiles and is it a good marketing strategy to have my web site, keywords, and my two largest selling products on LinkedIn?
