Whats the deal with Squidoo?
-
It seems like a lot of our competators are getting lots of link juice from fake/spammy looking articles on squido. Is it worth the effort to make these articles and add links to them, or is google smarter than that?
Example here: http://www.squidoo.com/selfstoragesmyrnatn
links to: www.migsonstorage.com who seems to be doing pretty good according to OSE with a PA of 63 and a DA of 56

I've been thinking about Squidoo for a while also...
It's not because I like Squidoo... In all honesty, i've been thinking about how I could use it to send some more link juice to my site.
Although it definitely is a great vehicle to host spammy pages with the sole purpose of generating backlinks and pass on linkjuice, I think it can also be used for a white-hat approach.
The way to do it right should follow rule #1 of good internet marketers: to create valuable and unique content with useful information that helps people out.
In this specific case, it might be a how-to piece "on how to select the best self storage service" or "5 pitfals to avoid when selecting selfstorage".
The article should be unique (in terms of content, so it is not picked up as duplicate content), **useful **(so that people actually read it and eventually tweet or +1 it) and **authoritative **(using 3rd party references to support what it says). No hard selling pitches, no blatant promotion of products/services... only useful information, with relevant links to different and authoritative domains... and, of course, a couple of good links back to your site.
PS: I haven't tried it... so I don't know if creating such a page would have any impact on a website ranking. What do you guys think? Is it worth spending the time to come up with such a page?

Where is a does a non-spammy link come from?
Even the directorys list on SEOMOZ is outdated (according to staff).
-
If we stay away from squidoo and other article sites, what other options do we have? haha, the options are growing smaller by the day.
-
If they are ranking above you.. then it must be working. From what I can see, they are providing unquie content.. and google is eating it up. Not a good idea for long term, but for now, the proof is in the pudding.

Hi there,
Most definitely seconded to what Casey said. Linkscape doesn't filter based on spam, so the authority you see passed here is skewed in terms of real world effectiveness in Google. Squidoo really is one of the most awful dens of spam online. Interestingly though, I was just taking a look at the full list spreadsheet of sites hit by the Farmer update (according to Sistrix's data) and Squidoo isn't mentioned.
But it really is awful. Stay well away

A thing to remember is that OSE doesn't discount any links or websites that may be spammy. My guess is that Google is discounting those links and pages since Squidoo is known to be very spammy and most likely was effected in the last updated by Google. My suggestion would be not to follow in the same suite as them and avoid falling into getting links from these type of spammy places.
Casey

Whats the best way to get credit links from sites i've built?
Hello! I've build 100's of sites. They mostly have site wide footer links pointing back to me. I know this is now frowned on. But does anyone have a good solution to get maximum value back from these? A few have a footer link to a credit page that then links back. I get quite a lot of work back from them. So I don't really fancy removing them. Many thanks in advance.

I want to design SEO link building strategy for my website? Is wordpress.com, squidoo, tumblr, blogger, typepad - Good option for link building?
I am currently concentrating on 8 keywords, for e.g (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H). I will be writing blogs with 2 of any related keywords present in it. I am thinking to post 5 blogs on 5 different platforms as (wordpress.com, Squidoo, Typepad, Tumblr, blogger) respectively. I am thinking a strategy as: Monday: Keyword A,B on Wordpress/ C,D on Squidoo/E,F on Typepad/G,H on Blogger/ A,C on Tumblr. Tuesday:C,D on Wordpress/E,F on Squidoo/ etc.... and will rotate these keywords through out the week and the cycle restarts on Monday. The URL for every keyword will be different and relevant to that keyword. I need quick suggestion on this topic..Please..

How to deal with over-optimised anchor text?
Hi, We took on a client a few months ago, who came to us after seeing a drop in rankings. After cleaning up the site, we concluded that their drop is more than likely down to over-optimised anchor text. The keywords that have mainly been affected are the ones that have a majority of links with the exact anchor text. The links have built using blog networks, articles and there are some comments thrown in for good measure. We have no way of getting them removed. Hmm, links can't hurt you!? So what is the best solution? Has anyone had any success over coming this issue? What sort of time scales are we looking at? Gareth

I have a competitor

that has shot up lately taking number one spot for various keywords when I look
at his links in Open Site Explorer I find many links that are links to downloadable
objects, not web pages. A few
examples, if you click on them, do not open who knows what they are. But what
the story, how are these links to his site, anyone know anything about this. What's the real deal with nofollow
I had a few questions regarding nofollow links. It seems like more and more sites, forums, etc. nofollow their links. Is it still worth trying to get a link from? I've heard only Google takes nofollows into consideration. Do other search engines (Bing specifically) "listen" to nofollows? Finally, when checking for nofollow, does it need to be right by the link(s) or can it be anywhere in the source? Thanks in advance!
