For a consumer facing blog, how often do you recommend updating content to develop good rankings? I understand that it's really dependent upon the niche/competition, but what are some best practices? Content is expensive. Thanks

Yes

I'm trying to provide evergreen, thought leadership content with the occasional product review - about 500 words each, decent quality. Do you think 2x a week, niche notwithstanding, is frequent enough to keep rankings up, i.e. we have a fresh, active site?
Thanks

This is really a determination based on your strategy and who the consumer is. Two examples that are both successful but take complete different approaches are Huffington Post (multiple pieces per day) and The Oatmeal (once a month).
Are you trying to get into Google news? Then you are going to need 2-3 pieces per day.

I recommend updating content once or twice a week, make sure you don't go overboard with keyword jamming. content and photos are key to longterm success.

Content can be expensive, but can also be a necessary evil for you, if you aren't able to do this yourself. Writing just for the sake of it could be a very bad move because, as Dejan has already mentioned, it could trigger the new algorithm from Google, and that could spell you problems.
Best not to bother than write something poor

You could spit out 10,000 bad content pieces and earn no more rankings than with one extraordinary item per month. Frequency of content update and adding of fresh content affects search engines signals broader (or different) to the one's impacting rankings alone (look up QDF). How content in a technical sense can help is if it earns links and through internal linking. My advice is not to create content if it doesn't make sense to do so, especially if it's of a low quality and empty meaningful sentences, you'll just end up with a low quality site which could trigger Google's new algo filter.

Blog migration
Hi We have 4 websites - 1 for company and 3 for each products. Currently all our blog posts are located on the company website company.com/blog. We will be separating out the blog so that product blogs will be in each product website. i.e. from company.com/blog to: company.com/blog product1.com/blog product2.com/blog product3.com/blog This is with the aim of helping SEO for each of the product websites; and improving user experience so users can easily navigate around the product pages if they are reading a blog post on the product. So now we have to consider migration. We will migrate/copy over all blog posts to each of the relevant product websites, but should we: A. keep the old blog posts on company.com/blog and do a rel=canonical B. only show blog preview on company.com/blog which will link to the new product.com/blog (and using 301 redirect) C. 301 redirect all blog posts from company.com/blog altogether Any suggestions on which of the above options to take would be greatly appreciated in terms of SEO and other considerations

Any help on best practices to move blog domain?
Hi, I am going to move my blog hosted on wordpress.com to a folder under mysite.com. (e.g. mysite.com/blog/). I start to think after the blog has gone live there will be duplicated content issue because I am going to import my posts in last 2 years onto the new location. I what way can I avoid that happen? Can I set something up (e.g. 301 redirect) in my current wordpress.com account? Any advice. Please help! Thanks

My Boss tells me personal narrative content isn't read online and bad for SEO, anyone else disagree? b/c I do!
I am in a constant debate that content 1st person or 3rd person doesn't make a difference in terms of SEO and what people on the web want to read. What do you all think? Does it make a difference?

Does SEOmoz have any "best practices" on setting a wordpress blog? Things such as essential plugins, best practices on category structure, what to do and not to do? Thank you!

Blog Repost?
We are a coupon site & occasionally have some updates to certain coupons that we post (maybe 24-28 hours after the original post). Is there any best practices to follow for reposting content? Here are a few thoughts: Would it be ok to use the same post, but just re-schedule it again to go out with the new updates? Should we create a new post & just reference the previous post?

What is the best way to get around duplicate content when you are advertising exactly the same content on two different sites?
I am currently trying to improve exposure for an online degrees website but the content for the degree program pages is exactly the same as the company's main website. What would you suggest for getting around the duplicate content issue as a lot of the curriculum content will obviously be the same for each module, etc? Thanks

Duplicating Articles/Blogs
Two years ago, some articles and blogs were written and submitted to certain tech and news sites relevant to our field. Will it be fine to submit those to other sites now. It is our content only and not some one else, but would it be penalty to submit the copy to other article sites whereever those articles/content are relevant today also?
