If Google turns down the weight of keywords in domains then what will they be turning up?
-
Per Matt Cutts video "We will be turning that keyword in domain down."
So what will they be turning up?
-
From what I have seen so far the exact match keyword domain is still a big factor. Top 3 in my estimate but it would make sense for that to dip a bit as it makes it almost too easy to get a site highly ranked without doing much else except buying that domain.
-
I dont think that they will specifically turn anything "up". however the things to look out for in terms of increasing signal to ranking factrs are the building of "Brand Perception" and Social Signals...
-
You are probably right... Just don't want to get tripped up because I am looking at my feet instead of the road in front of me.
Thanks for the reply.

re-adjust the link factor to keep it from getting a bump?
Well, in a weighting if one thing goes down then the others all go up a bit so that the sum of the weights is the same before and after. I think Matt is saying they are going to turn down the keyword-in-domain-name weight, which will have the effect of making every other factor go up a little bit. I think you can probably ignore all of this; I don't think it's actionable info.
-
So it will be a mute point because the weight will be spread across so many factors.
So you think they will re-adjust the link factor to keep it from getting a bump?
-
Since it's a weighting of many factors, everything else (the non-keyword-domain factors) should go up in relative proportion. I don't think they will explicitly turn up some other factor in order to counter the turning down of one factor.

Meta Descriptions - Google ignores what we have
Hi I still write meta descriptions to help with CTR. I am currently looking at a page where the CTR needs improving. I check the meta on Google SERPs & it isn't pulling through the meta description we have - but other info on the page. This isn't ideal - why does this happen? Will Google just make the decision and are descriptions not worth writing?

Having 2 domains with same name - Impact on SEO
Hi AllAs we still dwindle with the rankings not coming in line with the efforts.I have a question: We have 2 websites 1. http://www.example.com/ (which lost traffic and rank in Jan 2013). So we assumed that it was due to some penguin penalty. So we worked on disavow extra but nothing actually helped.Though there was no manual penalty mentioned in the GWT. Frustrated with this we thought of having another website 6 months back: 2. https://example.org/ - we did all the right things and by the book. But we are not seeing ranking here too. We did backlink analysis on all competitors and worked on only quality links they had. So all our links are highly highly relevant. But still the ranks are not moving beyond third page...in fact they moved to 6-7 page in last 2-3 days. Please suggest .. 1. is it due to same name of domain (our brand name) causing the issue. If yes should we go for 302 or 301 redirect to save ourselves from any penalty that our last website may have got. We can not leave that name unattended as our cataloges etc have that website mentioned. i will expect a scientific reply here not gut feeling please. 2. Is it to do with .org domain extension that it should not be with commercial organizations like us Kindly reply at the earliest Regards Aman

Duplicate Domain Listings Gone?
I'm noticing in several of the SERPs I track this morning that the domains that formerly had multiple pages listed on pages 1-3 for the same keyword are now reduced to one listing per domain. I'm hoping that this is a permanent change and widespread as it is a significant boon to my campaigns, but I'm wondering if anyone else here has seen this in their SERPs or knows what I'm talking about...? EX of what I mean by "duplicate domain listings": (in case my wording is confusing here) Search term "Product Item" Pages ranking: domain-one.com/product-item.html domain-one.com/product-item-benefits.html etc...

Meta Description / Meta Keywords
So, I am using Wordpress and the seo by yoast..... I have heard that meta keywords and descriptions are no longer recognized or used by search engines with respect to page rankings in the serps. Is this true? If so, why do people still recommend using these? I thought content is king these days?

Should I remove my keyword meta?
So it's safe to assume keywords are no longer used by SEs in the old fashioned sense to rank sites, but should be keep them as indicators of site content? It's been suggested by some that they're detrimental for two reasons: 1. Your competitors can snoop the keywords you're targeting but mainly... 2. Over-optimisation is the enemy these days! Thanks for your input 🙂

SEO Test: Domain Hyphenation [Update]
In May I announced test results for domain hyphenation but after a 3 month followup the results have changed and the hyphenated domain now wins on what seems to be the first link instance advantage. I was unable to discover any other factors which may have influenced this test but if anyone has any ideas I would like to hear about it. Here are the details of the SEO test and revealed URLs.
