Use of href=# or href=hash
-
I use links with href="#" to trigger ajax functions in order to filter/sort and refresh search results on page. Since several other html tags could potentially be used to bind a javascript event, (ie. span, img, div, etc), could there be a compelling reason to avoid using the anchor tag for this purpose? My concern is link juice dilution since many different pages will have the same links to: Sort by number of bedrooms or Filter by neighborhood. It is also common practice to use links with href="#" to submit ajax forms which are not html forms at all. I am just trying to rethink this practice and implement a best practice method. Thx

Okay, right you are then, just trying to help buddy.
As far as I am aware there is no compelling reason to not use the href='#' tag and this will not be diluting link juice anywhere as # is not a page.

Marcus, I am using the ajax to serve "variable" content to human users only after the page has loaded and user has taken some action to sort or filter, and I specifically do not want that content indexed. BTW, regarding Google indexing ajax content, I am not a fan of using G's proprietary hashbang methodology. If you want the content indexed, then load it with the page. Any content loaded through ajax should be for human consumption only. So, back to the question, about link juice...
Thx

Hey, don't take this as gospel, but I believe that Google does not index named anchors so when it looks at a URL it stops at #. So, links using # would not be indexed.
The whole ajax thing is quite interesting as if the page can have different content based on data driven ajax functionality then surely you are missing out on indexing a lot of your content.
I have not done any such experiments with ajax and indexation in this way but there is an interesting moz post on this here: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-to-allow-google-to-crawl-ajax-content

Use 301'd Domain for a new campaign
Hello everybody, My company is getting ready to start a new mediacampaign on a very specific subject. The mediacampaign is not directly targeted at our core business, the goal is more to inform our customers about a subject and do a little branding for our company. A nice (and expensive) infographic was built that is going to be the core content of the campaign. We want the infographic to get shared a lot and therefore some of my colleagues want the url to be as short as possible. The idea is to host the infographic on a url on our companysite, but use a 301'd, shorter domainname in our communications. We are going to be getting a lot of links to this empty 301'd domain which does nothing else then 301 to our companysite. I know that linkbuilding to a 301'd domain is an old blackhat tactic, that's the main reason I don't feel good about this. But i can't really find any info on this subject.

Removing spam back links (Using GWM and SEOMOZ)
Hi, I have noticed that I have got some unwanted spammy back-links. I want to get rid of them. From what I read on Internet, there are two ways to doing it. Using disavow tool in GWM. Contacting individual webmaster and asking them to remove the mentions or links. I have already added the links in the disavow tool and Google has accepted the request. Is it necessary to ask those webmasters to remove the link as well?

Which Creative Should I Use For The Anchor Text?
Hello, I have a real estate website (I'm using a random one below). We're putting out an advertisement and I'd like to know what the best anchor text would be. The hyperlinks are underlined below. We're trying to figure out if we should hyperlink the entire thing or just the keywords and leave the text around them. Also one of the keywords we're going for is an exact match on our domain (just like "homes for sale" and "homesforsale.com" below). The main keyword is "Homes For Sale", secondary "Real Estate" Out of the options below, which one would you choose and why? Or do you have any other options? We have to stick to this char limit, so the options are limited. Thank you for your help... HomesForSale.com Homes for Sale Locator Real Estate HomesForSale.com Homes for Sale Locator Real Estate HomesForSale.com Homes For Sale Locator Real Estate HomesForSale.com Search Homes For Sale Nationwide

Should we use 'disavow' if we dramatically dropped serps after Oct 5th, but did not receive a warning?
We dramatically dropped serps after Oct 5th, but did not receive a warning about bad links on google webmasters. Is it a good idea to find and collect the worst links and disavow them? As there was no warning we can only guess links were the problem, but it seems likely. However we do not want to send any requests to google if no warning was sent. Can disavow be used in this way, or should we do more manually? (We are hoping remove links + increase very solid links + optimize for key words will help revive serps) Many thanks. James

Anyone Still Use Article Directories?
Thinking of phasing this out. Too many spammy links in these. Does anyone still use article websites for 'white hat' SEO? E.g. create a high-quality article, then post it using 'branded' anchor text, e.g. link is the name of the business or URL.

Dear Sirs, I am developing a site www.mysite.com , this site has content in spanish www.mysite.com/es and in english www.mysite.com/en I would like to know if for SEO purposes if it would be good to have an enter page (landing page) at the root of the domain www.mysite.com where the users can choose the language, so I can get backlinks from both languages to the home page in this case the enter page. The thing is for spanish I dont see many seo resources so this way I can get links for the homepage www.mysite.com from english and spanish resources. and then focus in each folder language to get links for each one, english link sfor /en and Spanish Links for /es Thanks in advance, David
