Value of Twitter Links
-
Let's ignore the "social metric" value of Twitter links and mentions and look at it from the pure link juice point of view.
Twitter accounts such as http://twitter.com/randfish used to have their own PageRank and were treated as separate URLs. Twitter changed that to http://twitter.com/#!/randfish consolidating all their content to a single URL. When I search for "randfish" in Google, however, the result is the first URL version.
Some clarification on this matter would be much appreciated.

Nofollow should not be an issue if Twitter feeds raw data to Google directly via firehose. I do of course appreciate the fact that there are secondary benefits to nofollowed links.

Wow. Hashbang - a protocol I was completely unaware of. Thank you!
-
I forgot to add, that even before we found out the value of Tweets for rankings, I would always push the notion that although the links are nofollowed, they are still quite valuable. Just because those links are nofollowed, there are simply countless ways of turning them into a nice followed link. As an example, there have been many times that I've linked to a post that I found from Twitter, in an SEOmoz post. Another example is that there are many sites out there that create links to your content from Twitter, like Topsy.com, backtweets, etc.
Thanks!

Hi guys! Check out this post from Rob Ousbey talking about How to Allow Google to Crawl your AJAX Content. In it he explains how both Twitter and Facebook are using the "hashbang" or "#!" to let Google get to their AJAX content, in turn showing the URLs to Google as twitter.com/randfish and the like.
Hope this helps!

I have wonder the same thing. It seemed more obvious when there were page ranks assigned to a twitter account.
As far as the URL showing in Google. I can not find any URLs in google that contain the http://twitter.com/#!/
I would also speculate that twitter handles that have a lot of inbound links are going to prove more valuable for link building.

That is an awesome example. It would probably help to know which hashtags are being used as feeds on other sites as well. And creating your own feeds means more amplification... Good stuff.

how about the twitter profile feed?
lets say your profile feed and using a wordpress plugin for example that imports that feeds and displays it in your blog/company website... most of the plugin dont add nofollow on your links in your twitter feed. ( did not mention about twitter directories thats adds a big portion of your feed )
make sense?

Do web design footer links of websites you build have value?
Hi everyone. I am trying to build up DA for my site and create linking opportunities with my clients sites but I am not seeing any link value. I just did a redesign with another firm and we built out www.denbow.com . We have links to our sites in the footer but for some reason it's not being indexed. Can someone help me understand if it is good to put built by a href link in the footer? I've built almost 12 sites in my first 1.5 years of being in business for myself and I thought the links would pass some sort of value. Thanks in advance for the help and education. Regards, Noob Gary

Canonical Link Quesiton
I wrote an article that is a page article, but would also be a very good blog post - So my question is two things: 1. If i post it as a static page and syndicate it as a blog post and have it as a canonical link to the page, google will read see the blog and read the page _url as the one with credit correct? In turn not dinging me for duplicate content. 2. Given if the above statement is correct, should I write the blog and put it on my static page referencing the blog or the way i have it as a static page with the blog using a canonical reference back to the page. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Removing inbound Spam Links
Hello, Last February one of my clients websites was delisted. It turns out that some time ago that had attempted to launch a social network along time lines of ning. The project had fallen apart of the was still up. At some point spammers found it and started using it as part of a link farm. Once it was discovered, the subdomain it was posted on was removed and the website returned to search within 2 weeks. Last week, the website disappeared again OSE shows that in the last 2 months the website has got 2000 (There are about 16,000 total spam links) additional spam links now pointing and the root domain. On top of that, Google Webmaster Tools is reporting about 15,000 404 errors. I have blocked Google from crawling the path where the path were the spam pages used to be. If there a way to block the 1000s of inbound spam links?

Metrics to determine the quality of a link?
I found this very useful post on SEOMoz http://www.seomoz.org/blog/525600-metrics-how-do-you-measure-measure-a-link, but its a bit dated. Also, it doesn't really help in terms of applying exact metrics to measure the quality of a link. Does anyone have any other suggestions to help automate / determine the quality of a link?

Onpage linking
On my homepage, I currently link to about 40 internal pages. I'm considering altering the internal linking structure to have 50-100 links on the 2nd level pages. If I was to do this, I'd only need 8 homepage links. Do you think the 8 pages linked from the homepage would go up in the SERPs as the pagerank would be less diluted? I've heard so many mixed views on this. Be interested to see what people here think. Thanks, Pete
