Dynamic parameters
-
Our site has numerous filters and on each results page, we have the rel canonical tag. So, I'm not sure if we should concern ourselves or not about the crawl stats reporting that we have a bunch of pages that have more than two parameters. If so, do you have any suggestions? This url is an example:
Thanks!

Sorry, didn't read properly. Yes you should still block those pages anyway though... internal search result pages will still cause you issues in one way or another, whether it's circular navigation or competing for keywords... I would block them anyway.

I thought the rel canonical tag took care of the duplicate content issue.

That's not the actual product page itself, it's because it's a search result page. You should block those pages anyway as not only is there the parametre problem but they also have duplicate content of the product pages.

Dynamically populated content
We are developing a website for a school that has 19 campuses divided into 8 districts. Ideally, we would like to have one search page that dynamically populates when people search WHILE on the site. The question is what happens when someone does an organic search, will the search engine populate with the schools in that district. For instance, if i search on Google "Austin Schools", will the Austin district-that does not have a unique URL- show up in a Google search? What the generated page looks like is on this link http://imgur.com/stCQcP6. If yes, any special type of coding we need to add to the backend?

Query string parameters and canonical links
Hello everyone, My site uses query string parameters in a few places to manage tasks like pagination of lists. Eg: http://www.example.com/destinations/somewhere?page=2 I have set a canonical link with the href of the page without the query string but still getting thousands of duplicate title/meta description reports from these pages. Is there something I can do to change this? Do search engines actually penalise for use of query string parameters like this? They seem so commonplace, even for sites which use an absolute URI with no query string to serve content. Thanks 🙂

Google is indexing urls with parameters despite canonical
Hello Moz, Google is indexing lots of urls despite the canonical in my site. Those urls are linked all over the site with parameters like ?, and looks like Google is indexing them despite de canonical. Is Google deciding to index those urls because they are linked all over the site? The canonical tag is well implemented.

Long Meta Titles on Dynamic Pages
What to do with long meta titles on press release pages. Unlike other pages on the site, press release pages have no physical value and are dynamically created picking data from the database. Such pages i notice are automatically picking the URL/H1 as meta title and meta description. How to shorten such meta titles and descriptions? Do such errors (related to dynamically created pages) matter? Tanveer

Static or Dynamic Home Page? Please Help!
Hi again 🙂 I ask for ur input again my friends I finally decided to go for the shorter .COM domain, and I put my domain online. Since it will be an online games site, every post will be in fact a new game. And of course, every game, will be in fact a post. I put my home page as "latest posts" this way, all my posts are shown in home page, and posts being for me games, all my games appear on my home page. So my home page always has the latest games and is always fresh. The theme I use has the option to ad some "static content" at the end of the posts, on home page, for SEO. I my home page I have also about 300 words of "article" content, that never changes, and is for seo, since my post content, is in fact java script, and other html codes ( flash games). So my home pages is that article plus excerpts of latest post. But the problem is, that I cannot control the seo, on page this way, and I cannot control my keywords very well, or the density of them, since the home page isnt a page. Now the question is, to let my Home page as it is, or change it and set it up as a page. I can put games on pages to, that is not a big problem. What is best, for the future of the site, google ranking, and seo, in ur opinion. I ad that I recived "A" Grade on moz for Page Seo Grade! Thank You!

Dynamic pages on a static html pages websiite
Good evening everybody. I am new on SeoMoz that I find very helpful in my work. I am not a web developer so please excuse me if my technical language is poor.I have an issue that maybe you can help me to solve. I work for a company who has a website, which is old and very well positioned on google for the most important keywords for the field of the company I work for (dentistry). It is a website made some years ago and it's made of static html pages.I would like to add a section in my website where I can post articles, like a blog (I think of a wordpress-style website) with daily posts (so with a dynamic page). Is there a way to do this without modifying the structure of the website and without losing pages, urls and ranking? We're on the first google page for many keywords of interests in our city and it would be a great damage for us to lose those positions.Thank you very much!

Prevent indexing of dynamic content
Hi folks! I discovered bit of an issue with a client's site. Primarily, the site consists of static html pages, however, within one page (a car photo gallery), a line of php coding: dynamically generates a 100 or so pages comprising the photo gallery - all with the same page title and meta description. The photo gallery script resides in the /gallery folder, which I attempted to block via robots.txt - to no avail. My next step will be to include a: within the head section of the html page, but I am wondering if this will stop the bots dead in their tracks or will they still be able to pick-up on the pages generated by the call to the php script residing a bit further down on the page? Should H1s be used in the logo? If they are and it is dynamic on each page to relate to the page content, is this detrimental to the site rather than having it in the page content?
On some sites, the H1 is contained within the logo and remains consistent throughout the site (i.e. the company name is in the of the logo). If the h1 in a logo is dynamic for each page (i.e. on the homepage it is company name - homepage) is this better or worse to have it changed out on the logo rather than having it in the page content?
