Help with Duplicate Content Issue for pages...
-
I have pages with duplicate content, i want to put them on hold while i write unique content as i do not want to get marked down for it. I also want to keep the urls and use them again.
There are about 300 pages affected by duplicate content currently.Am i best doing 302 redirects as it is temporary? to the origional source of the content, or canonical tags no index?
The pages are currently indexed and cahced by google, i want to use the url in the future for unique content to get it valued by Google.
Any advice much appreciated.
Kind Regards,

Can this work as a temporary thing?
So if i put a canonical tag in then take it out, once taken out and the page is crawled Google will then value it as unique content?
I just don't want to do anything which makes Google think its permanent.
-
I would suggest using the canonical tag on duplicate pages until you come up with new contents.
-
Thanks for the advice so far everyone.
Some of the pages are getting traffic etc and all seem to be indexed - up to 1000 it seems.
Its 3/4 paragraphs of text so a little more than a product description.
It's a difficult one to call, as i need to save the urls but not get penalised for duplicate content.

Perhaps 302 to the folder (/destination/) until you're ready to use the content on a page. Implementing the canonical tag here probably won't make a difference as there will only be a small number of 'live' pages.
Good luck Paul

I would just focus your efforts on creating unique, optimsed content for these pages. If they are just duplicate product descriptions, they will know that and I doubt it having an major impact on the rest of the site.
What percentage of your site do these 300 pages account for? How quickly can you rewrite the content on the pages?
You could noindex but unless there was a proven impact that these pages are having on your unique pages I think you are likely wasting your time.

Thanks for the advice.
On further looking there's more of 100 pages which have duplicate content.
The urls are similar for example.
/destination
and then
/destination/keyword
I have been told to keep the urls and put unique content on as i go on progressing the site. I just don't know what the best way to do it is, whether it is 302, canonical, etc.

Sounds like a lot of work!
If there's a lot of dupe content are the URLs also quite closely matched in terms of keyword use? Are you going to end up just consolidating a lot of the content on a smaller number of pages? If that's going to be the case then perhaps a 301 to the root domain, or to the best of the current pages, would be better.
Cheers

Well i might need the re-direct to be there for up to 12 months, There's quite alot of content to do.
-
302 redirect does indicate a temporary move, but how temporary is the move? If you're going to have this content sorted quite quickly then you might leave the pages as they are for now.
Are you falling short on ranking currently because of dupe issues?
Don't forget about using internal anchor text to inform Google which pages are relevant for certain keywords.
Cheers

Well yeah i have a few pages which have been duplicated content and i dont want to get penalised for duplicate content. However I want to eventually write unique content for them and use the urls. As they are cached and indexed already I am wondering what the best solution is. I dont want a perm re-direct as i want to use the urls again.

Is there 300 pages that you considering 302 for?

Adding too many new pages at once - will it be seen as spammy
I have a database of around 10,000 business I want to list on my directory. My problem has been that my people have been adding to the database for over a year, but due to my hosting limitations adding them, caused my site to crash. I have now got this sorted, would going from 1,000 urls listed to over 11,000 may Google think I am trying to spam them. Would it be worth while dripping them in over time, or just adding them all at once. Any advice appreciated, Thanks

One Page Website Blog Content Question
Hi guys, I'm new to the art of SEO and am learning every day from all the fantastic content here, I have a question that I can't find an answer to, hope it doesn't stump you like it has me... I have a one page website (www.neilwilliamsvoiceover.com) that I need to put more content on for SEO purposes but needs to be kept as one page. I've set-up a blog via blogger, and have that on the website but it's in iframe, which I've now discovered is ignored by search engines. So, my question is, is there a way to pull my blog feed into the website and have it recognised by search engines as content for the website? Would I use an RSS feed or feed burner or something else completely?! Thanks for your time and help in advance.

2 URLs pointing to exactly the same content
Hi guys As far as I know if you have 2 websites with exactly the same (100%) content with 2 URLs which are not pointing to any other URL should attract penalisation from google, right? well, there is such a case and it was online for long time but the bad guys are in top of organic search and it does not seem to bother google at all! I don't want to list them here; it is extremely annoying and frustrating as I worked hard to get in higher search but seeing this thing is extremely frustrating! any advice on this? thanks

Is this dulplicate content causing me problems
Hi, i am going to try and explain this as best as possible as i am not used to working with k2 that much. What i have as an example is a page which is here http://www.in2town.co.uk/Cheap-Flights-Ryanair-News This page is news about ryanair now because i am working in joomla and i am working with k2, and i am also making each landing page a front page, i am having problems. For people who do not use joomla i will explain. For the ryanair page which is a front page, i have to make a category and that category for all my content to go into is called ryaniar-news. Now i have the page above which is for ryanair news but the problem i have got is, because i have a category it brings up all the content as a blog format. so for example here is the category section in blog format. http://www.in2town.co.uk/news/ryaniar-news Now i have managed to make sure that the articles are not showing but it brings up the title of the pages and i am worried that this will be seen as duplicate content and will damage the main page of http://www.in2town.co.uk/Cheap-Flights-Ryanair-News I may have set everything up wrong i am not sure but if i have i would be glad if someone can tell me the right way to do it. I do not like the blog format and that is why i use a front page set up so i can have my layout the way i want it. Can anyone please explain if my set up will damage the main ryanair news page or what i need to do to sort it out please.

Content being copied from our product page hurting our site overall?
On our product pages, he have short descriptions and some bulleted lists. Resellers of our products, and many other sites who are not resellers are copying this content, often verbatim. While I'm not as concerned for the product pages themselves as we're hoping the category pages will rank, does this duplication of our content hurt our site overall? FWIW, our brand name is in our domain and often also shown on these sites that copy the content.

Reusing Older content urls
Hi I have Windows Phone Games related site , we often post press release for various games as soon as they get released and later in a week or 2 we review some of these games . My question is , would it be better if I use use the old post and just delete the press release and post the review in that space . I will use an example to explain the situation Today I will do a press release : http://www.bestwp7games.com/infinite-flight-flight-simulator-for-windows-phone-7.html then say after a week I publish a review : http://www.bestwp7games.com/infinite-flight-windows-phone-flight-simulator-review.html My question is would it be better ( from an SEO point of view ) if I just delete the content from http://www.bestwp7games.com/infinite-flight-flight-simulator-for-windows-phone-7.html and add the review content in to that post ? PS : I am not a SEO guy so this might be a stupid question , if it is just go easy on me 🙂
