Htaccess funny characters
-
Hi
Panda update, tickled, slapped and then punched us.
I'm now weeding through crawl errors, one of them is
http://www.flasharcadegamessite.com/26226-paper-airplane-flight.html">paper airplane flight
I tried 301 this to it's proper page using
Redirect 301 /26226-paper-airplane-flight.html">paper airplane flight http://www.flasharcadegamessite.com/26226-paper-airplane-flight.html
but the server starts spitting out 500 errors.
How does one add that rule into htaccess ?
thanks

Hi
I've already done away with our own embed linking facility and chosen addthis.
I'll have to read up on regexes.
thanks
-
You need to utilise some regex, though I'm unsure of the actual regex code to match ">
In future offer a service to embed a link, then bloggers etc will always get the right url and also you can control anchor text.
-
Hi
The offending link is a french blogpost.
I have a bout 2-300 various links like this where people posting on sites etc have entered incorrect urls.
What I would like to know is how do I cater for ("/.>) characters in htaccess?
thanks
-
You are probably experiencing this error because of the "> in the URL you are trying to redirect.
Looks like the crawl has highlighted the as an error as it may have found a malformed link linking to the Paper Airplane Flight page. It looks as though you have a link that may look as follows ">paper airplane flight Notice the extra "> after the link URL.
You need to find the offending link on the site and fix it. That will solve the error.

Underscores, capitals, non ASCII characters in image URLs - does it matter?
I see this strangely formatted image URLs on websites time and again - is this an issue - I imagine it isn't best practice but does it make any difference to SEO? Thanks in advance, Luke

Redirect Issue in .htaccess
Hi, I'm stumped on this, so I'm hoping someone can help. I have a Wordpress site that I migrated to https about a year ago. Shortly after I added some code to my .htaccess file. My intention was to force https and www to all pages. I did see a moderate decline in rankings around the same time, so I feel the code may be wrong. Also, when I run the domain through Open Site Explorer all of the internal links are showing 301 redirects. The code I'm using is below. Thank you in advance for your help! Title tags with >70 characters but most important words at start. Is this really a problem?
Is there in fact any kind of negative impact having title tags longer than 70 characters, as long as I place the most important keywords at the start and make sure that title still is compelling when cut somewhere around 70 characters? Are the additional words after the 70 characters limit just ignored? May additional words dillute the strength of the first words or may they even be helpful ? Any experience or any studies you know about impact of longer title tags? Or any statement from google about it?

.htaccess question/opinion/advice needed
Hello, I am trying to achieve 3 different things on my .htaccess I just want to make sure I am doing it the right or best way because I don't have much experience working on this kind of files. I am trying to: a) Redirect www.mysite.com/index.html to www.mysite.com so I don't get a duplicate content/tag error. b) Redirect mysite.com to www.mysite.com c) Get rid of the file extensions; www.mysite.com/stuff.html to www.mysite.com/stuff This is the code that I'm currently using and it seems to work fine, however I would like someone with experience to take a look so I can avoid internal server errors and other kinds of issues. I grabbed each piece of code from different posts and tutorials. Options +FollowSymlinks

Guest Blogging Funny Problem!
Well it made me laugh and then cry a little after anyway. I have a keyword which is ranking page 1 position 7, I created a really nice article with content relevant to the keyword maybe around 600 words. I spent maybe half hour researching blogs on myblogguest looking for one that was based in the same country, had really good mozbar stats, even checked out how quickly other posts got indexed. I put 2 anchor text links in the article and managed to get the blogger to post the article. Next day checked the rankings and the post on the blog is now position 7, and has knocked me to position 8. I'm tempted to ask the blogger to change the title tag not to include my targeted keyword. Anyone got an advice on this?
