It appears inbox spam knows no bounds, even on this sacred of grounds

LOL! I guess she's not into girls, which is fine by me! LOL!
-
I'm afraid it's looking that way Ryan... she fooled us all.
-
Dunamis is also a cartoon in real life
-
Sarah is a whole lotta woman, one man, even SEO titans like ourselves, is simply not enough for her lusty appetites. Or something like that.
-
Neither did I. We're both female, and our avatars reflect that, which might be why.
-
Wait. Are you saying Sarah's ovations of my suaveness are insincere?!
-
Weird. She never sent one to me.
-
Ha, I got one also, she is playing the field chaps!
-
I'm all about kicking ass.
-
I would imagine EGOL is a good fighter. You've made a wise decision Steve.
-
lol no it's okay it's me and my paranoia... I can't resist with the jokes sometimes and then I panic in case my sense of humour is a bit dark and might offend people.
But on that, there's no way I'd get into a who is the cutest competition with EGOL. I pick my battles carefully so that I can win
(Wouldn't fist fight him either, had my ass kicked before and it wasn't pleasant)
-
Ahh my fault for not reading it properly. I feel really bad though as I still haven't got my message from Sarah!
-
Sorry Steve...I may have jumped the gun. I think it's the mom in me seeing a potential looming problem. I could just picture you and EGOL having a fistfight over who Sarah likes more.
-
Oh, sorry... what did I do?
-
Got it in mine and as soon as I did, reported it to tech support as spam. Got to help keep the moz a spam-free zone!
-
LOL! Boys, play nice!
-
Lately I've been getting a lot of emails telling me that the domain name that I use is about to be taken over by someone else and I need to use this company in order to be able to keep it.
It's a bit of a concern though that people are using seomoz profile data to email you.
Or then again, maybe Sarah thinks you're cute.
EDIT: Maybe she thinks you're cute and she also thinks EGOL is cute.
-
Steve, that's a good way to get the "thumbs down".
-
I'm hurt... she's obviously been two timing us
-
Even in your SEOmoz inbox? I mean yeah I get tonnes to my normal email but this is a first for me to get one actually on this site.
Haha, yeah I've had a few million headed for my bank account if I'm willing to provide the details too. I've been tempted to give it to them for comedy value, just so they get excited only to find out there's nothing in my bank lol.
Hard to believe but I guess some people must really fall for that stuff, or they wouldn't keep doing it.
Still, Sarah sounds lovely hey?!
-
I got it.
-
I didn't get that email but I do get emails like that from time to time, usually asking for money for a 'flight' to see me!
I also get emails from people on occasion informing me that a distant relative of mine has died and they want to give me my share of it ; quite a good deal actually - all I have to do is give over all my bank details and they'll transfer the 200 million.

When you get a new inbound link do you submit a request to google to reindex the new page pointing at you?
I'm just starting my link building campaign in earnest, and received my first good quality inbound link less than an hour ago. My initial thought was that I should go directly to google, and ask them to reindex the page that linked to me... If I make a habit of that (getting a new link, then submitting that page directly to google), would that signify to google that this might not be a natural link building campaign? The links are from legitimate (non-paid, non-exchange) partners, which google could probably figure out, but I'm interested to know opinions on this. Thanks, -Eric

Looking for a Way to Standardize Content for Thousands of Pages w/o Getting Duplicate Content Penalties
Hi All, I'll premise this by saying that we like to engage in as much white hat SEO as possible. I'm certainly not asking for any shady advice, but we have a lot of local pages to optimize :). So, we are an IT and management training course provider. We have 34 locations across the US and each of our 34 locations offers the same courses. Each of our locations has its own page on our website. However, in order to really hone the local SEO game by course topic area and city, we are creating dynamic custom pages that list our course offerings/dates for each individual topic and city. Right now, our pages are dynamic and being crawled and ranking well within Google. We conducted a very small scale test on this in our Washington Dc and New York areas with our SharePoint course offerings and it was a great success. We are ranking well on "sharepoint training in new york/dc" etc for two custom pages. So, with 34 locations across the states and 21 course topic areas, that's well over 700 pages of content to maintain - A LOT more than just the two we tested. Our engineers have offered to create a standard title tag, meta description, h1, h2, etc, but with some varying components. This is from our engineer specifically: "Regarding pages with the specific topic areas, do you have a specific format for the Meta Description and the Custom Paragraph? Since these are dynamic pages, it would work better and be a lot easier to maintain if we could standardize a format that all the pages would use for the Meta and Paragraph. For example, if we made the Paragraph: “Our [Topic Area] training is easy to find in the [City, State] area.” As a note, other content such as directions and course dates will always vary from city to city so content won't be the same everywhere, just slightly the same. It works better this way because HTFU is actually a single page, and we are just passing the venue code to the page to dynamically build the page based on that venue code. So they aren’t technically individual pages, although they seem like that on the web. If we don’t standardize the text, then someone will have to maintain custom text for all active venue codes for all cities for all topics. So you could be talking about over a thousand records to maintain depending on what you want customized. Another option is to have several standardized paragraphs, such as: “Our [Topic Area] training is easy to find in the [City, State] area. Followed by other content specific to the location

“Find your [Topic Area] training course in [City, State] with ease.” Followed by other content specific to the location Then we could randomize what is displayed. The key is to have a standardized format so additional work doesn’t have to be done to maintain custom formats/text for individual pages. So, mozzers, my question to you all is, can we standardize with slight variations specific to that location and topic area w/o getting getting dinged for spam or duplicate content. Often times I ask myself "if Matt Cutts was standing here, would he approve?" For this, I am leaning towards "yes," but I always need a gut check. Sorry for the long message. Hopefully someone can help. Thank you! Pedram1 -
Sponsoredreviews.com , anyone ever used it?
I came across this site http://www.sponsoredreviews.com/, thought its idea was a place were you can offer your product to be reviewed by bloggers, (fairly white hat I would have thought), I had a quick look and it seemed to me its for for selling back links on blogs, but before I dismissed it completely I just wanted to see if anyone else had any experience with it? Update: if this website is no good, are there any genuine places were you can offer you products for review?

Can anyone explain these crazy SERPS?
do a UK based search for 'short term loans' on google. there are 7 sites on page 1 without any page or domain authority, several of them registered to a 'jeremy hughes', who I am guessing does not really exist. this is a very competitive term and they just shouldn't be making it onto page 1. im thinking this must be some clever 301 redirecting, as I cant see any backlinks to any of these sites in opensiteexplorer. any ideas how these sites are pulling this off?

Will my association's network of sites get penalized for link farming?
Before beginning I found these similar topics here: http://www.seomoz.org/q/multiple-domains-on-same-ip-address-same-niche-but-different-locations http://www.seomoz.org/q/multiple-domains-on-1-ip-address We manage over two dozen dental sites that are individually owned through out the US. All these dentists are in a dental association which we also run and are featured on (http://www.acedentalresource.com/). Part of the dental associations core is sharing information to make them better dentists and to help their patients which in addition to their education, is why they are considered to be some of the best dentists in the world. As such, we build links from what we consider to be valuable content between the sites. Some sites are on different IPs and C-Blocks, some are not. Given the fact that each site is only promoting the dentist at that brick and mortar location but also has "follow" links to other dentists' content in the network we fear that we are in the grey area of link building practices. Questions are: Is there an effective way to utilize the power of the network if quality content is being shared? What risks are we facing given our network? Should each site be on a different IP? Would having some of our sites on different servers make our backlinks more valuable than having all of our sites under the same server? If it is decided that having unique IPs is best practice, would it be obvious that we made the switch? Keep in mind that ALL sites are involved in the association, so naturally they would be linking to each other, and the main resource website mentioned above. Thanks for your input!

Has anyone seen this kind of google cache spam before?
Has anyone seen this kind of 'hack'? When looking at a site recently I found the Google cache version (from 28 Oct) strewn with mentions of all sorts of dodgy looking pharma products but the site itself looked fine. The site itself is www.istc.org.uk Looking in the source of the pages you can see the home pages contains: Browsing as googlebot showed me an empty page (though msnbot etc. returned a 'normal' non-pharma page). As a mildly amusing aside - when I tried to tell the istc about this, the person answering the phone clearly didn't believe me and couldn't get me off the line fast enough! Needless to say they haven't fixed it a week after being told.
