Same IP for sites & linkbuilding - negative signal for search engines?
-
Let's say you have 40 websites which share the same IP and you place links to them on a bunch of sites (directories, blogs), albeit on different pages on these sites.
Will search engines (google) see that they use the same IP and start having the links not-pass link juice based on that same IP?

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately I am using amazon cloud server for some sites, I'll have to look at some creative solutions to get them on different IP blocks or IP's altogether.

It's highly unlikely you'd get problems from it but it's not going to get you much in terms of link juice either. It will some, just not loads... if you make sure you've got a whole bunch of links from other places too then it won't matter
Where I work, we provide hosting as well as SEO and there's quite a few sites all on the same C block that have footer links to us. They do pass some link juice, but they'd do better for us if they were hosted in other places.
There is a solution though. Funnily enough I only just found out myself today (from a Distilled Link Love seminar vid). There's hosting sites that can offer you webspace with different IP blocks and whole different locations.
A couple are: http://www.aseohosting.com/ and http://www.biggest-hosting.com/seo_hosting.html among others.

It's not a good idea to manipulate your link profile with links that are all on the same server. While this might give you some benefit in the short term, Google understands quite a lot about linking and will most likely catch on. If you have taken the time and investment to build 40 quality websites, why risk getting them banned or devalued?
Google would be stupid to allow this kind of linking. Google is not stupid. I would recommend linking your sites together only where strictly relevant, or else use rel=nofollow. I think that's about as clear an answer as it is possible to give.

Alt text from an external site
We have a relevant external website that is linking to our site through an image. What ideally should the alt text of this image be? Should it just be non-commercial as generally advised with the anchor text of an external link? Or should it include where suitable relevant keywords? Keen to know people's thoughts here! Thanks.

Press Release Sites
Has anyone ever used macreportmedia.com for press releases? I normally use PR Web. This new company contacted me and it sounds pretty good, but I don't really trust anything without reviews, and I can't seem to find any out there. Has anyone had any luck with these guys? If not, can you suggest anything other than PR Web that you've had success with? I'm really looking for the SEO benefits of the releases more than the publicity.

Link on Every Wordpress Portion of My Site?
I have a website that is pretty popular with good SEO rankings. Part of the site is ran with Wordpress (homepage, articles and static content pages), another part is the forums using vBulletin (probably 75-80% of the pages on the site) and I also have a directory using another software. I have a new website and was going to add a link to it on my older site on the sidebar of Wordpress across all the Wordpress pages. Should I stay away from that or just put it on the homepage? The text is basically "Come check out the new {keyword} site at {SiteTitle}, by the founders of {OldSiteTitle}. I would have the keyword and sitetitle linked over to the new site. Would I be hurting either site by doing this or should it be looked at as a natural link as I do own both of the sites and want to let people know about the new site.

Diverse SEO On & Off page questions!
Hey everybody. I have been reading several resources on SEO, and wanted to know your opinion on these topics. I know they are diverse and should be on a different set of questions, but i wanted to give it a try. I run a Heavily Specialized Steel B2B eCommerce Site. So my question would be what is the importance of the following topics, taking into mind the nature of my site. The importance on how often the page is updated ? Recommendations on updating relatively static pages ? How important is to meet HTML and W3C Standards, also its validation. The NoFollow and Follow ratio of incoming links. Your opinion onthe inclusion of outbound links to other relevant pages. Is there a best practice? Any comment is welcome, and would be deeply appreciated. Regards,
