Does the Facebook Share button still exist?
-
Hi everyone,
I'm reading everywhere about the Facebook 'Share' being more powerful than the Facebook 'Like'.
Just yesterday, there's a post on the SEOmoz blog about Facebook Shares http://www.seomoz.org/blog/plus-one-adoption-rates-and-social-sharing-statistics
But I thought the Share button was replaced by the Like button? http://mashable.com/2011/02/27/facebook-like-button-takes-over-share-button-functionality/
All references to the Share button now point you to Facebook's Like button developer page.
So if we want more SEO value, where can we get the Share button from? Or do we have to make do with the Like button from now on?

By using the open graph protocol you can control how the like/share/recommend appears on a Facebook Wall.

You can still utilise the old way of sharing on facebook from your content with a simple URL..
You could either use an image link, or text link but the main guts is the URL..
http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=<url to="" share="">&t=The%20Title%20To%Share
That's it in a nutshell. Replace the 'u' parameter with the URL to share, and the 't' parameter with an escaped title. I've added %20 to show spaces in the example. </url>

Like and share are different. Sharing will just give you the option to post something on your wall, but you won't "like" it. Here's an article which should give you some info about implementing share buttons. From what I've read, it looks like Facebook will be phasing out shares for likes at some point, so who knows how long share will be around. Share is a little outdated, since when you like something, you also have the opportunity to share it on your wall. If you're going to share something on your wall, don't you like it?
Huffington Post allows you to do both on their articles. For example, see here.
In response to your reply on Nicholas' answer, I think there is some control by site on how the additional text you can write on your wall when you "like" something. Maybe there is some psychology involved, where if you click "share", you're more prone to adding a comment about what you're sharing, and with "like", you're less prone to adding text when you post it to your wall.

There's quite a bit of difference in terns of how they appear on the user's wall. See article http://daggle.com/facebook-button-facebook-share-keeping-1792
And there's a clear distinction between the buttons. I appreciate the article is old, but the latest ranking factors from SEOmoz show that shares have a higher correlation to search engine rankings than likes. Why would the two be separate, if they mean the same thing?

You could also use the term "recommend" when you create a button similar to this.
I believe that it is just a term, but if you like a link and it posted to your wall, then that is considered a "share". It is not the same as liking someone's status on FB, the link it actually getting shared to your fans or friends.

Can we create regional pages on Facebook?
Hi, Our business spans across many countries and in order to maintain brand consistency, we were contemplating to create regional fan pages on Facebook. The structure would be like parent-child relation i.e. one main page and other regional pages. Is it possible? We searched for it but could't find something concrete except that in 2012 Facebook was testing similar concept. Regards

Facebook doesn't "read" pages: 206 responsecode: Could not retrieve data from URL
Hello, Since shortly, every page of our website ecoheating.be doesn't get "read" by Google. So when you paste a page in Facebook, he doesn't get the title, description, image... FB Debugger says there's a 206 Error code (check attachment). A lot of changes are done the last weeks on this site so perhaps something is misconfigured. But what could this be? I've already check the htaccess and nothing there... Thanks, 0cphxGt

Why isn't my Facebook page showing up in search results?
When I search directly for imageworks creative facebook page on Google, I get many results - some of which are not mine and some of which are listings from other citation sites like Manta. I did a site: search and I do see that the page is indexed by Google, but it's pretty important that we get a better ranking than we currently have! This is the Facebook url: https://www.facebook.com/ImageWorksCreative As part of our rebranding, we did have the URL changed from /imageworksstudio, but that was well over a month ago. I feel as though Google should have caught up by now. Any thoughts on how we can get our FB profile onto the front page?

Facebook likes - how can I tell how many likes a product page has?
Without actually going to each product page and looking at the number next to the 'Like' button, is there any way of finding a list of all your pages and the number of Facebook likes on each?

Is there any SEO benefit to hosting your Facebook photos on your own site?
I will often post photos that I have taken to my Facebook page (either personal or my fan page). Sometimes these can get lots of likes. I got thinking that perhaps I host these photos on my site (i.e. www.example.com/images/photo1.jpg) and then share that "page" on Facebook. That way any of the likes would be counted towards my site. What do you guys think?

Increasding the number of Tweets & FB Shares
Just asking for advice / strategy on increasing the number of tweets & Facebook shares to a particular domain. We're seriously lacking in this department and I'm not exactly sure how to get started as we're a B2B services company. We're languishing on page 2 of Google where all the other stats look good enough for us to be in the top 5, tweets and FB shares are 1 and 1 respectively. Any advice gratefully received - we also have a small budget set aside for an expert to provide a ranking strategy if anyone's interested. Many thanks in advance, Tony.

Buying Facebook Shares?
Would it be considered buying links if you asked your Facebook fan base to share a specific product page, and by doing so they will be entered to win a drawing? How would Google look at this? And could we expect a significant increase in rankings as a result? Or would it just be a temporary "what's trending?" boost you think?

How do I control the thumbnail image for a link on a Facebook post?
Hi, All! I've spent about an hour working on this with no success, so I thought I would ask the community: How do you tell Facebook which image to put in for the thumbnail on a link you're posting? And I would like it to be a different image for each post, and I don't want to have to deal with programming PHP (the main solutions I saw). I'm on a Wordpress based site, and I've tried putting images in as the featured image, made sure they weren't huge (under 200x200), made sure they were .jpeg... and the only thing that Facebook offers me as a thumbnail is a generic "green globe" image that I don't believe comes from my site at all. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
