What to do with content that performs well in SERPs, but is dynamically generated?
-
A new client developed an application that generates dynamic content. They were hit hard from Panda, and I believe it is in part due to this application.
About 500 of the urls from this application perform well in SERPs (rank well, drive traffic to the site, low bounce rate, high page views per visit, etc). And there are an additional 9,000 urls (and growing) in the index that don't drive any organic traffic.
We are thinking of making the 500 url that perform well into static pages and de-indexing the rest. What are your thoughts on this?

I can't provide the exact url, but the dynamic content is a customized search result. User data seems to show that users prefer the content. The CTR is very high as is pageviews, and low bounce rate and they are some of the top pages in GWT. We would de-index all of the urls, but they drive a large percentage of traffic to the site.
Thank you.

I agree with Ryan. Exactly where is the content coming from and what type of content is it? Also, what is the history of this site. Has it been running with this content for years or put up a couple months ago and then hit recently.
For years Google has been dropping the rankings of some websites and they continue to do that today. Google continues to do this but over the past several months people are blaming every dropped site on Panda.

I think we need a lot more detail in order to help. What kind of content is involved? Any data coming from a database can be called "dynamic".
The 500 pages which are popular could have great results due to the content or the way it is presented. It's quite possible the same content on the 9000 unpopular pages could be presented differently and then become more popular. There are just too many factors involved to offer any meaningful feedback.

Personalized Content Vs. Cloaking
Hi Moz Community, I have a question about personalization of content, can we serve personalized content without being penalized for serving different content to robots vs. users? If content starts in the same initial state for all users, including crawlers, is it safe to assume there should be no impact on SEO because personalization will not happen for anyone until there is some interaction? Thanks,

How many serp results for a domain.
I thought this one was carved into stone, max number of results from the same domain in SERP is... two. Or... three?! I was searching for some familiar keywords and found three results from the same domain, isn't that... unusual?

Do mobile and desktop sites that pull content from the same source count as duplicate content?
We are about to launch a mobile site that pulls content from the same CMS, including metadata. They both have different top-level domains, however (www.abcd.com and www.m.abcd.com). How will this affect us in terms of search engine ranking?

Problem with Google SERPS
I am running yoast SEO plugin in WP. I just noticed when I google the client, none of their meta data is showing. I see that I had facebook OG clicked, which looks like it made duplicates of all the titles etc. Would that be the problem? I have since turned it off. I am hoping that was the problem. Also, when the client searches it says in the meta desc - you've viewed this site many times". What is that?

Duplicate Content Issue
SEOMOZ is giving me a number of duplicate content warnings related to pages that have an email a friend and/or email when back in stock versions of a page. I thought I had those blocked via my robots.txt file which contains the following... Disallow: /EmailaFriend.asp Disallow: /Email_Me_When_Back_In_Stock.asp I had thought that the robot.txt file would solve this issue. Anyone have any ideas?

Duplicate Footer Content
A client I just took over is having some duplicate content issues. At the top of each page he has about 200 words of unique content. Below this is are three big tables of text that talks about his services, history, etc. This table is pulled into the middle of every page using php. So, he has the exact same three big table of text across every page. What should I do to eliminate the dup content. I thought about removing the script then just rewriting the table of text on every page... Is there a better solution? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Remove unwanted map in SERP
My company is based in Brighton. We run courses in London. If you search 'london business writing' in Google UK, you get this: http://i39.tinypic.com/35me3qs.jpg Lolwut. Google is placing a link for a map to our Brighton offices beneath the second result. For a London-related keyword that links to a page for our London courses that contains an address for our London venue. We are registered on Google maps as being based in Brighton; we also have a map of our Brighton office on our contact page. But obviously, this is not relevant to this search. How do I get rid of this map for this keyword?
