How to choose Keywords

Am starting a company and in the process of developing the website. I would like to get a head start on content and want to know the best way to choose keywords and tips on how to write optimized content.

Keyword research is the most important part of any SEO campaign, as it represents your foundation. All subsequnt work is going to be based on your initial keyword research. Get it wrong, and you may found yourself spending many wasted hours on keywords which are simply not worth it.
If you are new to SEO, my advice would be to get some help with your keyword research, or at least get a second opinion.
The Google keyword tool is going to be one of the most important long-term tools you will use, and it will help you to effectively choose and find keywords. However, you must consider how strong the competition is for any keyword to give yourself the best chance.

I would suggest using Google Adwords Keyword Tool.
Type in "amazon river cruise". Configure your audience (what countries you are targeting, languages, etc) and then see what the difficulty and popularity is for your keyword. You will also learn about other keywords that may be related such as "rainforest cruise" or "amazon tours".
If you are really trying to rank well and there is competition, I would recommend targeting only one keyword per page. If the competition isn't strong you can target two keywords per page.
When you write the content, use the guide ennovation offered as it is fantastic. The key is not to write random 500 word articles on a given topic. They internet is full of those articles already. Go through and read the content from the 1 - 10 ranked pages, then write something better then anyone else. Write the best article that has ever been written on the topic. Then you will earn links and improve your rankings even more.

Sure. We are a travel agency and will concentrate on selling amazon river cruises with this particular website. I am thinking to build a list of 10-15 (or however many necessary) keywords and see which are the easiest to get into position 1 with - over some time of course.

That would depend entirely on your goals, your content and a few other factors.
Can you offer some idea of your subject? Perhaps a topic you are considering writing an article about? Is the purpose of your site to sell products or services? Membership? Or are you a non-profit site offering general information?
I would prefer to offer some helpful advice rather then information which will probably be too generic for you to find useful.

Your keyword selection will be directly related to how much quality content you have to offer on a given topic. If you were to write about "golf clubs" then you can write a single page on the topic and that page could be the only one mentioning golf clubs on your site. Alternatively, you can have an entire site dedicated to golf clubs with hundreds of pages discussing "golf clubs", "wooden golf clubs", "iron golf clubs", "putters", "professional golf clubs", "women's golf clubs", etc.
To get a general idea for getting started, I would recommend taking a look at Wikipedia. They do several things exceptionally well:

Their URL contains the phrase the page being targeted such as: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golf_club_%28equipment%29

The page has an H1 tag with the key word title in it. Their H1 tag is located at the top of the page.

The content itself begins by talking about the keyword. Notice the articles first words "A golf club is used..."

Notice if you right-click on the image and choose SaveAs, the image name contains "golf clubs" in it.
There are many articles and even books about how to write content. The above tips are just a few important ideas to get you moving in the right direction. I would also recommend reading the Beginner's Guide to SEO. It is a relatively short, outstanding guide which can help answer some questions.

Hi, Let' say one of the topics I want to talk about is "wine tasting2. I do a search in the keywords tool and I find related keywords such as "wine tasting chicago" and all the words that I find do not apply to me because I do "wine tastings in Bordeaux". How do I deal in a situation like that ? Can I type in the keyword tool "wine tasting bordeaux" even though my topic is wine tasting ? I took "wine tasting" but I could apply that to the word "chateaux" where none of the related keywords apply to me. I run into issues when the topics are "large". The other question I have is still about "wine tasting" if I find secondary related keywords that apply to me such a "wine tasting in bordeaux", "wine tasting cellars" do I still need to add in my content the word "wine tasting" by itself in addition to the 2 related keywords or can I just only put the 2 related keywords ? New Rules Keywords of Google Panda
Hello Everyone,.. I want to ask regarding my confusion of Keywords. How does search engine see the keywords? and find the website that is matched with the keywords. So this is what I mean: When I type keywords "luxury dog clothes" at google, then the website which is showed up, is nothing using keyword of "luxury dog clothes". But then appeared websites which in bold words are "designer dog clothes", "dog clothes", "designer dog" . Can anyone please help me to explain why Google shows the website which is not identical matched keywords "luxury dog clothes" that I am looking for? I read at the beginer guide SEO, that the good keywords must be placed at the front of the title then in the body description, placed no more than 2 times. But in fact, for the example above, there is nothing words of "luxury dog clothes" placed at the title and in the body description. This makes me very confuse how to determine the right keyword for mine, especially the long tail keywords. Thank you everyone. Hopefully you all can help me to explain as I am a newbie at SEO.

Hi Should I be looking to keyword every blog post I write? Obviously the point in a blog for most of us is to draw in traffic so should I keyword research every blog post and use that as keyword? Advice - Keywords, good semantic practice...
Hi everyone, I'm still new to SEO so bear with me. I'm fairly ok with what determines good 'On page optimization' grading. Have a few good results but mostly for my ecommerce website. Now I'm building up blog content I'm often puzzled how SEO experts balance good editorial web page titles with how people actually search. An example: Buy Biggie Smalls Versace Sunglasses I have created the page title 'Buy Biggie Smalls Versace Sunglasses - Company' Created a and tag with the same keywords... drop the term a few times on the page, add to a few alt tags, add the term to the url.... but this looks contrived & isn't exactly an exciting web page title which would entice people to click through. Or is it? A more interesting web page title might be something like 'Versace & Biggie Smalls - his influence on a new generation of Hip Hop culture'. Ok this is a completely different long-tail keyword phrase. But do I need to do both? How would a seasoned SEO expert blend the dull search term into some interesting page title and hence all other on page optimization aspects. Hope you get what I'm trying to explain. What do broad match keywords represent?
Exact match is perfectly easy for me to get my head around - broad match, not so much! Take the phrase, "removing blueberry stains." Is the broad match data for this that I'm seeing in the Google keyword tool for searches that involve any of these particular words, in any phrase, in any order - just so long as they're all there? Any help with this concept would be much appreciated.

How do you optimize for compound keywords
What is the best way to handle keywords like "switchplate covers"? The key word may be seen as either a 2 or 3 word phrase, depending how you handle the compound term: "switch plate" or "switchplate" In google KW it shows different results for switch plate vs switchplate as well as using cover vs covers. I've tried using all the variations in my descriptions, titles and H2s but I think this is diluting them all. Can anyone show me best practice guidelenes or examples of good solutions to these kinds of compound key words? Thanks Handcrafter
