Youtube Backlink
-
We've had our Youtube Channel fairly optimized for several months now. Part of that effort includes the link back to our site which is allowed on Youtube. When doing link research I see Youtube links being given credit to competitors but haven't seen Youtube show up in backlinks reports for our site yet. Is there any way to speed this up? Our Youtube page with the link has been indexed and a cached version of the page is in Google's SERPs.
If there are any tricks to getting this going that anyone is aware of I'd like to hear it.
*The link on Youtube returns a 200 and is followable. I'm using the SEOMOZ tool and Open Site Explorer to do backlinking research.

Youtube is a huge site and is probably crawled daily, I would imagine if your link is not showing up after several months then there must be something wrong on your side.
Would you care to share the Youtube channel, I understand if you don't want to but just trying to help.
-
Our Youtube page uses the www which is our preferred domain. OSE gave similar results and did list the Youtube link for competitors but not us.
I don't want to get too hung up on getting juice from this one single link but if there are techniques to accelerate the process that would obviously be pretty nice. I want to make sure we benefit from this link at some point because it was a deciding factor between uploading videos on Youtube vs. other services with potentially better reporting.
-
Oh, if you're PA is 47 on the youtube-profile - it's should really have been indexed, especially if you've had the profile up for 2-3 months.
-
Sorry Ronan, I confused you with Dave because you have the same avatar/profile picture. Please ignore my inrelevant answer.
-
The PA for our page is listed as a 47 in using the SEOMoz tool. Hmmm, based on your experience you say OSE would probably have it indexed in 40 days-ish (the link has been there for several months I believe by now, maybe 2 or 3). Thanks, I didn't know if anyone had any tricks like adding the link to your sitemap or some how linking the two to speed up the process. We don't link from our site to our Youtube channel right now which we should, for non-SEO reasons. Maybe I'll push that forward and see if that does anything.

Yes, I've used OSE for checking backlinks. The link from Youtube has no WWW, this is because my site doesn't use WWW by standard. By using WWW in the link, I would loose link juice.
What's the PA on your Youtube-profile page?
-
Does your link from youtube contain WWW or without it? Have you checked inbound links to your site using OSE for the same?
-
This might be a kind of basic question to ask but... have you any backlinks to your profile on YouTube? My Youtube profile has PA (page authortiy) 55 with 3 backlinks.
What does the SEOmoz-bar says? What's the data (page authortiy) for your youtubepage? You should really (!) have in indexed in Opensiteexplorer if you've had any backlinks in the recent ~40 days. The only way I can think of to speed this up is to actually build more backlinks but pinging won't help.

Old Spammy Backlinks but No Manual Penalty...No Results
We have taken over a site in which the client had unfortunately hired an SEO consultant who bought bad comment spam links. Webmaster Tools does not show a manual penalty of any kind but clearly this was bad practice from the former "SEO" consultant. I believe we have a good structure of the completely new website we have built for the client but I am not sure of the best way to reduce any negative fallout from the previous actions. I've read conflicting information about submitting disavow report to Google for the comment spam links. In some cases, I have read that it would be irrelevant since there is not a manual penalty. I am fairly certain rankings are being negatively effected from this action and looking for the best way to neutralize the algorithmic penalty. Not sure if this helps or not but I use GWMT "Download Latest Links" and see that the soonest Google discovered one of these links is 4/4/2013. Most of the links were generated some time during 2012. How do you even begin to try to reach out and have comment spam manually removed...when most of the sites that allowed the comment spam to begin with are spam sites themselves?

Does this count as a backlink to my category page?
I am ranking high with a certain category page and I am reading that I need backlinks to that page. It is going to be a challenge to get a backlink to that specific category page but how about this? Category page URL: www.mysite.com/category/name Backlink to this URL: www.mysite.com/category/name/specific-blog-post (EDIT: Apparently these types of links don't exist! I went into the category page and clicked on a blog post and it just gave me the www.mysite.com/blah-blah-blah) Will that count as a backlink to the category page? Right now I am only getting backlinks to these blog posts: www.mysite.com/this-is-a-blog-post Any help appreciated! EDIT: Well I guess now my question is worthless. But if you have any input, it would be appreciated.

Dodgy backlinks
I've got a new client who made the mistake of spending $5 on a sack load of dodgy links some time ago. I'm redoing his site, not set up analtics or WMT or anything yet, just starting on it but I had a look at his backlink profile and it's pretty shocking. Riddled with porn and money scams etc, but I'm concerned by the nature of one of the links....to the url is disturbing and I'm tempted to report them to the police. :(. If I use the disavow tool will it remove the links from my backlink profile altogether or just block the dodgy site? I want to disaccociate the site altogether.

Which is More Powerful? Content or Backlinks: Ecommerce Sales
Hello, Which do you guys think would bring in more sales: doubling the content across all category pages and top 30 products, or getting 10% more good unique root domain backlinks from broken link building? 350 products in total 50 main categories 150 subcategories. Product page content would be frequently asked questions for the product and would be added by the site owner who is an expert. Thanks.

Creating Backlinks On Behalf of Client
I'm on my first SEO project with a law firm. I'm at the stage where I am doing competitive backlink research on other law firms that my client gave me. I saw a blog site called typepad. It has a high domain authority so I was going to recommend to my client that they set up an account and blog away! Since it's a law firm, I am not qualified to start blogging on behalf of my client and I know they are extremely busy so now I have to "ride" my client to get busy and start creating content. I feel like I want to do more for them on the blog side to keep things going but not having a law background, probably not doable. Question: Do most SEO's do the blogging for their clients, farm it out or keep pushing their clients to do it? I also want them to sign up with articlebase but the same thing is going to happen. I have to push them to write articles. I guess this is my job? -Bob
