Trailing slash on URLs
-
Hi everyone
My question is regarding trailing URLs in Wordpress
A designer setup a site and made the URL structure something like: www.website.com/description/ but I want to change it to www.website.com/description as this is more SEF
A trailing / was added to the permalink structure in Wordpress, if I change this will google see these as new URLs and will all the current URLs become 404?
Or should I just leave it?
Thanks in advance

Hi Bryce, maybe I should have said more human friendly. As Gareth says the trailing slash is not as nice looking as the URL without

Hi Darryl
There's no SEO advantage to having a trailing slash or not. Both are viewed the same. The important thing is to choose one and make sure it's consistent throughout the site. I prefer no slashes, cos it looks nicer, but that's just me and has absolutely no SEO relevance.

What version of wordpress are you running? I just tested on v3.1 and it redirected the URL's, no 404's

I haven't heard anything substantial about which method is best, do you have some content you used as a reference for this?
The change in structure will result in a redirect on the old versions (just tested it on one of my sites), I think google will see this as a 301 redirect.

Ecommerce URLs with numbers
Hi everybody! I have to optimize an ecommerce where somebody has previously done the SEO optimization, although the URLs have numbers before the product's name They have told me that these numbers are useful to find the products, so I think it shouldn't be really bad if I don't redirect them to "clear" ones. For example: /colesterol-sobrepeso/2217-hc-grass-capsulas-duras-15-capsulas.html > /colesterol-sobrepeso/hc-grass-capsulas-duras-15-capsulas.html Am I right? After all, they contain the keywords and the subfolders are also ok. Or it would be better if I redirect the whole site? Thanks!

Multi Keyword URL Ranking at Number 1
Here is part of a URL that takes the local number 1 spot for "implant dentist glasgow" [website] /implant-dentistry-glasgow-scotland/implant-dentistry-glasgow-scotland.html The first /implant-dentistry-glasgow-scotland/ directory or page is protected and presumably just exists for ranking reasons. I am tempted to copy that URL on a client's implant page to compete for the keyword (I believe I have better content). Given that it works well for the other site, can you think of any reason that would that be a bad idea? Thanks very much.

Url lenght/depth - Short or specific?
Hi, I'm trying to decide the best structure for a directory my site offers (containing all the businesses working in the field) and I'm not sure whether to choose something shorter or being more specific. So, I have 3 variables: Type of business (I mean, specific sector) Region City And I'd like to give some strength to every one of it. So, the complete URL (the one I'd like to use) could be: www.mysite.com/sector/region/city/business-name What I was not sure about is...is that too deep? I mean, even thought I'd like to perfectly categorize them and give some strength to every sublevel, I'm not sure about having the business-name so "far" and so "deep". Thank you for your ideas!

Sorry, but that URL is inaccessible
Our site is all on the https protocol so every time I use the on-page grader it tells me the link is unavailable. What can we do? When I use the http protocol (which is 301 redirected to the https) it still gives me the same message.

With a slash and without a slash
I have noticed recently on open site explorer that pages are listed that contact the ending / and that dont. so for example- www.onlinemediadirect.co.uk/blog-setup and www.onlinemediadirect.co.uk/blog-setup/ They also have slightly different page authority. Is it worth setting up a redirect or does google not need this ? The page ranks well of course.
