Follow or no follow?
-
Should I add NOFOLLOW to the links in the footer of my site like "about us", "Contact us" etc because they are in the footer they are on every page so would this harm SEO in any way?
-
No need to add nofollow to the footer links. Keep it natural.
-
Oh and one final thing, I have a menu system that uses ajax, Google reports too many links on the page because it has the main link eg ceiling-lighting.html but then you can choose things like colour so it would change it to ceiling-lighting.html?colour=brass+supplier=another etc is this damaging to the site?
-
Thanks for the replies, I will leave them as they are, one other thing with regards to nofollow, does having more than one link to a page cause problems? for example on my product page the product title leads to the product so does clicking on the image and there is also a "more info" link that has the same url

Is page sculpting basicaly trying to manipulate crawlers into roaming your site more to specific pages to boost their rankings?
-
The only pages you should be using nofollow on would be any pages you don't want to be found in Google. PageRank sculpting is long dead (or so Google says) so you won't be able to horde your page strength.
Matt Cutts does use nofollow on his website, but only on his RSS feed. I go a step further and also nofollow any cart pages for ecommerce stores and any login/auth pages. Just anything that shouldn't be in search results.
I pretty much let PageRank flow freely throughout my site, and I’d recommend that you do the same. I don’t add nofollow on my category or my archive pages. The only place I deliberately add a nofollow is on the link to my feed, because it’s not super-helpful to have RSS/Atom feeds in web search results. Even that’s not strictly necessary, because Google and other search engines do a good job of distinguishing feeds from regular web pages.

Pages such as the about us page can have real value to your readers so definitely leave these as followed links. Likewise, if your contact page has important information such as telephone numbers or physical address, you want these pages indexed.
Rand wrote a post on NoFollow sculpting which dates back to 2008 but is still pretty relevant.
-
I don't see why you would want to do that; I would assume you would want the link juice on your site to spread freely through all the links so that each page is benefiting. If you nofollow the links then any links you follow will still be devalued by the nofollow links and the nofollow links themselves will not provide any juice to the rest of your site.
I would say that nofollowing your navigation links is therefore a bad idea
-
I would leave these as normal links.
No-follow is designed for links that you don't want to pass value. This could include advertisements (Google wants paid advertisements to be no-follow) and comments on your blog.
There was a previous theory that no-following internal links would result in the other links on the page passing more value (page sculpting) but this was debunked by Google. An internal link with a no-follow would not pass link value and the link value would be lost (not funneled to the do-follow links).

No follow on class - is it correct?
Quetstion, Due to some recent SEO issues on our website on an audit, we found that a potential risk could be all the semi-sitewide links derived from a buy now pay later provider's code in our source code. Our developer implemented Rel= no follow in the following context... <p class="afterpay-paragraph" style="display:block; margin-top:0.3rem;" rel="nofollow"></p class="afterpay-paragraph" style="display:block;> Is what the developer has done, adding it as a class correct? and will it work correctly for SEO? or should i tell the developer to go back and include the no follow code instead as href="https://www.afterpay.com/terms" rel="nofollow"> and add the same to each external .png link too? | |

Google ranking is HORRIBLE. Following SEOMoz suggestions and just can't climb.
First of all, the URL is stores.dhsequipment.com. In January, this online store switched from Homestead to Big Commerce. Since the store updated, we decided now is the time to update our product descriptions, URL's, title tags and meta descriptions. (For the first time, we had the ability to customize our URL's.) Product Description: I went through 2,500 products and updated the product description. I added an H1 & H2 to each description, and included pertinent information such as part numbers. Each product also received a new page title, meta description (which is usually the first line of the product description, don't know if this is bad or not) and a new URL, (which did redirect). Once I would complete a section, I would submit a new sitemap to Webmaster Tools. After a month and nothing happening, I started using SEOMoz which helped me rebuild some of my more important pages, such as the home page and main category pages such as: http://stores.dhsequipmentparts.com/stihl-ts420-parts/

http://stores.dhsequipmentparts.com/stihl-ts700-parts-stihl-ts800-parts/ I fetched these pages in Webmaster Tools after completion. However, it's been several weeks since and I'm still on page 4 or 5 in the SERPs. Just a little history on the store; this store has been in operation for more than 6 years. Previously, we ranked on page one for 75%+ of our products. My belief is because our URL's had history, probably more so than our competitors. I'm not sure what I should do. Business is super slow and we can't afford to wait much longer.0 -
How to re-follow using the WPSEO plugin
Hello, I unindexed numerous blog low quality blog posts and nofollowed them at the same time using the Advanced meta tab for the Yoast WPSEO plugin. I am trying to reindex them, which I figured out and can successfully do, What I cannot figure out is these posts will not return to follow status and remain nofollow. I have been recreating the blog posts, but this is very time consuming. Is there some way to do this without have to reduplicate a new blog post? I Googled this and searched MOZ with no luck. thank you Mike

No index, or no index no follow?
Wondering if I could garner some views on this issue please. I'm about to add an affiliate store to a website I own, the site has a couple of pages of unique content (blogs, articles, advice etc on home improvement - all written by my team). Obviously, the affiliate store will not be unique content, it will be made using the datafeeds from cj.com et al, and so I don't want to get any duplicate content type penalties from Google for this store. Should I add a no index to the pages and allow the bots to still crawl them, or should I add no index and no follow? Ideally I would like to get the affiliate store category pages indexed as they will be a mixture of lots of different merchants and be fairly unique. Can Google still mark the site down for duplicate content if it can crawl it, even if it is noindex? Thanks, Carl

How to view all 'followed internal links' on a page
I am trying to view all the followed internal links on a few pages of my website. The MOZ toolbar just gives me the total number of internal followed links. What is the best way to actually see all the internal links that are followed by the google bot from any particular page? Thanks in advance.

How do you optimize for keyword phrases that don't follow natural speech patters?
For instance, We have a phase "solar panels for home" that sends decent traffic to our site, but I'm sure we could be capturing more if any of our content was optimized better for it. But how do you optimize for a phrase that makes you sound like a robot if you use it verbatim?

To follow or not to follow...?
One of my client's uses alot of links in their content. They follow style and fashion news. Many times I find the use of nofollows unnecessary, but sometimes they have articles with well over 20 oubound links...I wonder if this "drains" the authority/link juice of the page to the point where the long tail traffic wont kick in? Should I have reason for concern, and should I use nofollow on the links? I notice many of our competitors dont really bother, but they also have alot more authority.

No Follow Internal Links
Hi Mozzers, I know that this has been asked a few times and answered as well, I would just like to know some more on the internal link count on a page. I ran the SEOmoz report and many of the pages on the website have more than 150+ internal links. Now, should I use the rel=nofollow tag on some pages that I feel are not important? I have a list of pages which are not important from the SEO point of view, but from the usability factors they need to be there so I cannot remove the links to them. So, would be OK to place the rel=nofollow tag on them. My whole purpose is to reduce the count of internal links on the page as seen by SE's. Now, some say that the rel=nofollow tag does not lower the link count, but it can definitely (I believe) prevent the bots time in getting to those pages, which SEOmoz report also quotes. (__When search engine spiders crawl the Internet they are limited by technology resources and are only able to crawl a certain number of links per webpage. ) So, probably I can save their time. Does anyone have any views on this, Cheers,
