Help with Rel Canonical on Wordpress?
-
Crawl Diagnostics is showing a lot of Rel Canonical warnings, I've installed Wordpress SEO by Joose De Valk and Home Canonical URL plugins without success. Any ideas?
I'm getting a lot of URL's that I thought I blocked from being indexed, such as author pages, category pages, etc.
I'm also getting stuff like "recessionitis.com/?homeq=recent" and "recessionitis.com/page/2/", those pages are similar to my homepage. I thought those plugins were suppose to automatically clean things up.. anyone use these plugins that have any helpful hints?

Assuming this pages are dupilcates.
then only one will rank, with a canonical you can choose what page that is, if you dont use a canionical then google will choose. if you have too many, then google may see that as bad, -
I see, so the notices are URL's that have the canonical attribute?
I just want to make sure PR isn't passing on to "recessionitis.com/page/2/", "recessionitis.com/?homeq=recent", etc.

It no indication of good or bad use, just a notive,
imaging you did something to generate rele canonicals on 20 pages, later you notive its on 1000 pages, you could have some real problems, so its good to notice this -
Right, SEOMoz Diagnostic notices.
So are the notices showing urls that should be seen as Canonical or url's that are seen as Canonical?
-
Are you talking of SEOMoz Diagnostics, if so you will see that they are notices, not warnings.
It is good to be notified where you have your canonicals as they can be dangerouse if you have put them in the wrong page.
Canonical want stop them being indexed, it just gives the credit to teh page you tel it to.

Rel=Canonical For Landing Pages
We have PPC landing pages that are also ranking in organic search. We've decided to create new landing pages that have been improved to rank better in natural search. The PPC team however wants to use their original landing pages so we are unable to 301 these pages to the new pages being created. We need to block the old PPC pages from search. Any idea if we can use rel=canonical? The difference between old PPC page and new landing page is much more content to support keyword targeting and provide value to users. Google says it's OK to use rel=canonical if pages are similar but not sure if this applies to us. The old PPC pages have 1 paragraph of content followed by featured products for sale. The new pages have 4-5 paragraphs of content and many more products for sale. The other option would be to add meta noindex to the old PPC landing pages. Curious as to what you guys think. Thanks.

Why add .html to WordPress pages?
A site I may take over has a plugin that adds .html to the pages. I searched online but I’ve only found how to add it rather than why to add it. Is it needed? If I remove it, I’ll have to be careful with SEO / indexed pages and redirects. The site is running 3.x.x and 90% of the plugins have not been updated in over 5 years including this one. Before I update to 4.7.x, I am trying to understand the landscape (pros / cons) on why something could be used and if I need to find a suitable replacement for it.

Pagination Help
Hi Moz Community, I've recently started helping a new site with their overall health and I have some pagination issues. It's an ecommerce site and they currently don't have any pagination in place except for these tags: Prev 1 2 3 ... 66 Next I understand what these are doing (leading visitors to the previous, next or last page, but do these do anything for search crawlers or does the site need to have an option of:

Canonicalization help
Hi Moz Community, If I have two different sub-category pages: http://www.example.com/rings/anniversary-rings/
Technical SEO | | IceIcebaby
http://www.example.com/wedding/anniversary-rings/ And the first one is ranking for all KWs, should I add a rel=canonical to the second URL or leave it since it's slightly different? Or should I try and create different unique content for the second URL? Everything in terms of content is the same on both these pages except for the URLs, which aren't that different to begin with. Thanks for your help! -Reed0 -
Wordpress Categories and Over-Optimization Question
I would like to switch my sidebar from listing Category Name with posts listed below each- to a concise custom menu. This custom menu would list the top three products I am promoting first, and then go on to list the categories on my site. Currently it looks like this (but with 6 categories, with between 7-10 items in each - this is on EVERY page) Widgets

-Green Widget
-Blue Widget Gidwets
-Big Gidwet
-Small Gidwet I rank well in google right now, but I am concerned that changing my sidebar will result in a penalty. Maybe for over-optimizing my top three products I promote, or possibly for trying to control the flow of link juice. Can anyone chime in here who has adjusted their site structure within wordpress, and tell me what you found worked best? ** Before anyone asks**, this structure does work much better for the user. My sidebar now is massive, and is confusing even to me.0 -
After I 301 redirect duplicate pages to my rel=canonical page, do I need to add any tags or code to the non canonical pages?
I have many duplicate pages. Some pages have 2-3 duplicates. Most of which have Uppercase and Lowercase paths (generated by Microsoft IIS). Does this implementation of 301 and rel=canonical suffice? Or is there more I could do to optimize the passing of duplicate page link juice to the canonical. THANK YOU!

Duplicate Post Titles in WordPress with
Hi, First off, this is a WordPress specific question. we migrated a site into WordPress, with hundreds of long articles that are split into 3 or 4 pages each. Each of these articles was entered as an individual post, split into different pages using the tag. We're using the yoast seo plugin. The problem then is that each of the pages gets the same title and meta description. Has anyone a good solution to differentiate the pages? Thanks,

Will rel=canonical cause a page to be indexed?
Say I have 2 pages with duplicate content: One of them is: http://www.originalsite.com/originalpage This page is the one I want to be indexed on google (domain rank already built, etc.) http://www.originalpage.com is more of an ease of use domain, primarily for printed material. If both of these sites are identical, will rel=canonical pointing to "http://www.originalsite.com/originalpage" cause it to be indexed? I do not plan on having any links on my site going to "http://www.originalsite.com/originalpage", they would instead go to "http://www.originalpage.com".
