Blog in subfolder or folder
-
SEO best practices says that one should put blog in a subfolder. Like
www.example,com/blog
In the above case, should we say that the blog is in folder or subfolder. Actually, i have been unsure about this folder vs subfolder thing. Some examples of this would be appreciated.
What is the example of a blog in a subdomain ?
Thanks

Hi Atul
You are correct, it's considered SEO best practice to host a blog on the main domain rather than a subdomain (No. 5 in http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/domain which I'm sure you've seen).
As for the naming of either 'Folder' or 'Sub-folder'; both are used and either one is appropriate, they are essentially the same thing.
To try to remove any possible confusion though, I tend to call a deeper part of a main site a Folder, whereas a deeper part of a sub-domain a Sub-folder. Thus keeping the word 'Sub' associated with a Sub-domain.
So I'd call www.example.com/blog a Folder and blog.example.com/news a Sub-folder.
Regards
Simon

Duplicate blog - will it be ok to do so
Hello, One of our client is interested in creating a duplicate blog under a new URL. We told them about Google penalizing the new blog since it would have duplicate content. Will it be ok to go ahead with the plan ? Their response was there are multiple news sites that carry the same stories. So, they said that it won't matter. Cheers

How to avoid duplicate content when blogging from a site
I have a wordpress plastic surgery website. I have a wordpress blog on the site. My concern is avoiding duplicate content penalties when I blog. I use my blog to add new information about procedures that have pages on the same topic on the main site. Invariably same keywords and phrases can appear in the blog-will this be considered Duplicate content? Also is it black hat to insert anchor text in a blog linking back to site content-ie internal link or is one now and then helpful

Domain Forwarding / Multiple Domain Names / or Rebuild Blogs on them
I am considering forwarding 3 very aged and valuable domain names to my main site. There were once over 100 blog posts on each blog and each one has a page authority of 45 and domain authority of 37. My question is should i put up three blogs on the domains and link them to my site or should i just forward the domains to my main site? Which will provide me with more value. I have the capability to have some one blog on them every day. However, i do not have access to any of the old blog posts. I guess i could scrape it of archive.org. Any advice would be appreciated. Additional product information: the product's sales page or a blog post?
I want to go in-depth about different customizations for custom caps, which is one of the products we offer. I just don't know whether it would be better--from an SEO perspective--to expand the caps sales page we already have or to write a blog post to give the site another valuable indexed page. From a user standpoint, I don't think it's as important, because if I do it the blog way, I can't just put a link on the page saying, Want more customizations? Visit our blog post. Any opinions?

Best Practice to Remove a Blog
Note: Re-posting since I accidentally marked as answered Hi, I have a blog that has thousands of URL, the blog is a part of my site. I would like to obsolete the blog, I think the best choices are 1. 404 Them: Problem is a large number of 404's. I know this is Ok, but makes me hesitant. 2. meta tag no follow no index. This would be great, but the question is they are already indexed. Thoughts? Thanks PS A 301 redirect to the main page would be flagged as a soft 404

Properly Moving Blog from Index to its Own Page
Right now I have a website that is exclusively a blog. I want to create pages outside of the blog and move the blog to a page other than the index file e.g.) from domain.com to domain.com/blog I will have the blog post pages stay in the root directory. e.g.) domain.com/blog-post Any suggestions how to properly tell SE's and other websites that the blog has moved?
